One of Harley's best road bikes--- the Sturgis was HD's tallest geared 4 speed Shovel. Like most of the Super Glides, Willie G. modeled the Sturgis after his personal ride. At the time the press considered it just another "cruiser", but with the dual belts and tall gearing I think it was actually HD's answer to the upscale gentleman's tourers of the era, like the BMW. My daily ride is a mostly stock 1982 black/orange Sturgis. Rode it 800 miles in one day last July. Harley doesn't get enough credit for the innovations of the AMF/early Buyback era bikes. The Real Fuckin' Deal. All the HDs after the original FX bikes are all copies of the various incarnations of the Super Glide models.
I'm fully aware of AMF Harley Davidsons era, but it's my favorite! And the 1999 Harley Davidson FXDX Super Glide Sport is another one of the best looking Harley Davidson bikes ever made (my opinion)! 👍
I used to own that bike that seniors riding me and my wife put a lot of miles on it. Whoever gets that bike. I hope they enjoy it as much as me and my wife did rest in peace Harold honor you’re a good man. I know you’re still riding up there in heaven.
🐝🏁 Ken, Billy Thomas got the last shozel head, that was built, I got to ride it years ago, still running today. Love those Harleys and i love your channel
She’s a beauty! Those colors stand out among other color combinations. Black & gold create a feeling of 1st class quality and makes me think of the Smokey & the Bandit Trans Am. It’s Mother’s Day and rhymes with Brothers Day. Thanks for your positive energy and influence bro. God bless Kaplan Cycles!🙏🏼 Tony in Texas.
This is awesome i love it. Brings back memories when i saw a mint one just like this one, the first Sturgis I'd ever seen back in the day by lake Alexandrina in New Zealand a guy and his wife were tenting there by the lake on a road trip across the country. Always liked that model ever since seeing that bike.
Beautiful vintage Harley. The Zahners had 1 amazing, well taken care of, and kept up, motorcycle collection. I love the exhaust note..Magic Carpet Ride!
I would really like to have a vintage Harley Davidson someday, including a 1977 Harley Davidson XLCR because it's collectability, and often think about turning a Harley Davidson FLHS Electra Glide into a Rocky III theme motorcycle. I have own motorcycles in the past from a 1970 Honda CL175 to a 2016 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 Super low.
Hot dam, in France back then i was 10 and reading my older brother's motorcycle magazines and the ad for the HD Sturgis made me dream. I'd love to bid on this to add to my stable here in WA state now but my wife swore last summer she'd divorce me if I bought another bike. Maybe next summer if I don't grab a CBX instead. Love the black and gold, reminds me of the JPS Lotus Formula One cars, and the Yamaha Midnight Special. That's how I repainted my Yamaha V-Max by the way. Anyhoo, much love and if not now then when to say: Good Bless America !
Awesome looking bike Ken!! Sounds awesome too!! Love that old school sound!! My girlfriends FXLR ( 94 ) sounds like that. She has taper turbos on them. Awesome 🤘🏻 💯!! Can't wait to revisit the museum!! Great video 🇺🇸🤘🏻💯
Hard work pays off look what this guy has accomplished! He has little sweet gig going doesn’t he! With his family too! I envy you kap! Sweet little dime of a bike too!
The boss used to have me do the assembly and battery charge out the crate and then put like 20 or more miles on and recheck all the fasteners then he would put it in the showroom. I used to think "they pay me to do this?" Ha-ha, them's were the days. I readied and rode the first Sturgis in Pennsylvania at the time. Marciano's H-D Exton PA . The shop moved north on Rte 100 after I left and then became Smaltz H-D and now that's gone too.
I believe every Harley air cooled engine starting with the Knucklehead and ending with the Twin Cam were Hemis. The M8 is the first non-HEMI air cooled Harley engine since the Flathead.
thanks so much MR Kaplan .your the Best ,hay my favourite bike is the 1990 Gray Ghost. Fat Boy,,, i saw one in your show room .wow if i win the 649 lotto ,i will be there ,,fast,,..Fraser toronto ontairo canada
I've got a major leg injury that's infected I'm not even supposed to be at work or riding motorcycles so I guess the cats got my leg for right now thanks for your support

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that they actually trademarked the sound of their bikes and they used the verbiage "potato potato potato"!!! Correct me if I'm wrong. 🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
I ain't sure if they actually did but I remember herein about the motor company trade marking the design. Maybe that's why all the other V Twin bikes that are not Harley-davidsons always just sound like lawnmowers? Take even the "power cruzers" I don't care how many cc's it's got or how strong the drivshaft is it sounds like a lawnmower if it's not a Harley-Davidson to Me. Good thing I like lawnmowers almost as much as real motorcycles.
That's a real Harley Davidson, I can't believe they call the new Harleys a Harley Davidson, especially the pan America or the Sportster S. There is nothing Harley Davidson about those bikes.
The motor company is bowing to the government. If they keep going in that direction there will no difference from one manufacturer to the next. Corse the chi-coms will make the cheapest look-a-like bike so that's what will sell. The sled in this video still has the soul of a Harley-Davidson. Now there's giant #'s and electronically controlled bikes with dang blasted catalytic converters!!!! It's no wonder there's so many problems with the new bikes.
Thanks always for the sick amazing videos BIG BOSS MAN!!! Us Ontario Riders really appreciate your videos and business and style! Oh yeah, put some 14” or 16” Apes on her and then she’d be perfect!!!!! Lolol!!! Knuckles up baby!!!! All the Best Big Man!
your right that does sound like a harley the new onews sound like a honda goldwing i dont give a fck what anyone says i like the gold but im old so i lone the white letter tires and thats on anything because ya never see them anymore
Nothing sounds better than a shovel. If it doesn't "gallop" I don't want it. How much for this piece Ken? Also, what do you want for that beautiful Nostalgia Cowglide?
The sturgis one of the best of vintage harleys great value i would rather one of these proper harleys the 80s model is better than those modern garbage are not proper harleys but the sturgis is great value for money they are the best ever made a proper sounding machine and the colour is beautifull in black and gold the original colour is rare

This collection of bikes constantly blows my mind it's AMAZING beyond words.
Shovels are *_the_* best sounding Harleys. They may not make face melting power and they can have their issues.... but man do they sound the part.
That bike sounds BEAUTIFUL!!!
I'm fully aware of AMF Harley Davidsons era, but it's my favorite! And the 1999 Harley Davidson FXDX Super Glide Sport is another one of the best looking Harley Davidson bikes ever made (my opinion)! 👍
As always, thanks for sharing Ken! God bless you and your business and all your employees!
Probably the prettiest Harley ever built
Looks and sounds amazing!!
Old evo and shovelheads sounds awesome.....Todays Harleys sounds like any Japanese bike 😂

Great building.
I love the Black & Gold on this one. Clean and simple, straightforward. The Sturgis models were riders' bikes.
That's a pretty special un modified bike.
I love my shovelhead... Nothing better when they're working right.
This is awesome i love it. I always loved the styling on this bike, it excudes 😎
I have a 1980 Sturgis...was 16 when they came out, and always said someday I will own one.
Beautiful vintage Harley. The Zahners had 1 amazing, well taken care of, and kept up, motorcycle collection. I love the exhaust note..Magic Carpet Ride!
I have a feeling a collector is going to buy this beauty!
If that doesn't bring out a persons inner "hell yeah brother" I don't know what would.
HELL YEAH!

Quintessential Harley Davidson!
Beautiful bike, alot of mojo..... and that sound.....
Yeah, I've never seen a black and gold Sturgis from 1981. I've seen 82s in black and gold though.
The boss used to have me do the assembly and battery charge out the crate and then put like 20 or more miles on and recheck all the fasteners then he would put it in the showroom.
