Here's another "subtlety" that I use whenever I do a coin fold: as the coin is still in the folded Post-It (BEFORE you let it slip out and into finger-palm position), press on it to allow the outline of the coin to show, then take a pencil and using the "side" of the point, shade over the coin so that the design of the coin comes out on the paper. (I'm sure you've done this when you were a kid!) This further convinces the spectator that the coin is inside the folded paper. And THEN, tilt it up and allow the coin to fall into your waiting hand. When you put the paper on top of the glass, the pencil shading showing the heads (or tails) side of the coin will absolutely convince the spectator that the coin is still inside the paper. This looks really cool with the thinner flash paper, but it still looks terrific with thicker paper such as a Post-It. Oh, and one more "subtlety": instead of just opening up the folded paper to show that the coin is not there, I hold it as if I'm going to rip it in half, pretend to struggle (because, after all, it's a solid coin in there, right?), and then finally rip the paper in half, and seemingly, right through the coin! NOW you unfold both halves of the paper and show that the coin has, indeed, vanished.

Great video. Love seeing magicians giving tutorials. I've been practicing and playing around (very amaturely) since I was young, and like seeing how other magicians choose to represent the tricks, how they think about their moves and how and why they act them out the way they do. Would love to see more tutorials, especially from Mr. Ramsey. You could do it alone and show multiple techniques, or you could have you and a friend showing simple tricks and showing each other (and us) how you choose to represent certain parts differently, I think it would be very cool to watch.

Nice idea to add the initial on the other side of the coin, the spec doesn't for one second think of the fact that when they see the duke coin that it could simply be a dupe with the ghost face pre-done on one side. The writing of the initial somehow strengthens the idea that they are looking at their signed coin when they are only seeing the dupe with the ghost face on. Lovely!

so the moment you balled up the napkin I knew that's where the coin was. what I like to do when performing which also goes with a lot of jokes . is to act like you're not really that good at this, forget steps but not too much they will get bored. so ball up the napkin but don't put the quarter in yet. halfway thru balling it up, say something like, while unfolding the napkin "o shoot the light, o wait I don't need the light just yet" . this says look I didn't do anything fishy with the napkin. also it tells the audience you don't know what you're doing so they stop looking so hard then fold up the napkin again this time put the quarter in it and bam. this will work especially well if you have a helper that can put the quarter in a truly unexpecting place like the ghost went so far as to go under the napkin holder or salt shaker. franticly look for Alberto "ooo there are you Alberto don't worry"

A lot of people riding in on their high horses here. Most of them seem to be missing the point, which isn't to necessarily show a polished trick, but to demonstrate what you can do with some basic coin sleights. So, you don't like the Bobo switch and thought it was pretty obvious or awkward. Great. Substitute another switch if it bothers you that much. There are a plethora to choose from. Maybe a simple shuttle pass is right for you. How about Latta's one-handed turnover switch? Or maybe Kaufman's Drop switch? Perhaps you don't like the coin fold and find it rather obvious. Use a different vanish, then. Or maybe you like the idea of the coin fold but don't like the particular technique used here. There are more coin folds out there, ya know. The point is, you can use these basic coin sleights to put together a pretty good trick. And I, for one, appreciate seeing a little coin magic on here. Thank you Spidey and Chris.

Easy enough to figure out. He had a second quarter with 3 green dots on it. He places the "fake" one (without the "A") in the shot glass while palming the original in his left hand. He then interjects the original into the napkin as he's wadding it up, and places it under the glass.
Notice how you never see the "tails" side of the "fake" quarter when it's removed from the shot glass (because there's no "A" on it). As he's wrapping it up in the post-it note, he lets it slide out of the paper and into his palm at some point (gotta admit, he does a good job at this).

Hi Chris. Great bar trick, Spidey. Might be a good idea to explain that Ghosts like to hide in sheets and so we are going to put a folded up sheet in this shot glass, in case he gets scared for any reason. I find that justifying a move is a good idea. Otherwise, the spectator may just wonder why you are wadding a napkin.

@@kingrobert1st that's why I said when he was 'first' doing it because that's when he wasn't explaining as he went along. He just did the trick. And there was misdirection, it was just poorly done. Like when he asked for a lighter, then he himself had one... if you need a lighter for the trick, you wouldn't rely on someone else having one, so asking if they had one then pulling your own out just made it obvious.

He didnt fold the paper properly either.. he folds it to where it looks like the coin is trapped, but you can see the slit.. right before he asks if the other guy has a lighter, @ 1:57 when he says "the last thing we need" he slides the fake coin out into his palm and then when he reaches for his back pocket, he puts it away.. @ 2:08 he accidentally hits the edge of the paper, and you can clearly tell the way the paper moved that there isnt anything in there.. this was just really horribly executed
