I know its too late to change the reaction to the movie being in english but definitely take the time to watch it again in the original spanish.
The emotion conveyed in their native language is phenomenal and had me crying multiple times during the movie. The english dub never conveys that same emotion to me.

14:20 in interviews, the survivors have said this very same thing! After the crash, they entered "rugby team mode", where they mantained the social hyerarchy of the rugby team, with Marcelo as their leader and an autopilot sense of working together just like in rugby. After the avalanche where they lost half of the survivors and Marcelo too, in their words they switched to "society mode", where it wasn't an autopilot conventionally structured group anymore, and instead they became complete equals, where they all had their speciality and area of control and everyone else followed/commanded too. Some survivors originally didn't do much due to the "rugby team mode" and other survivors call them "the retirees" because of it (not necessarily out of lazyness, but because they weren't mentally well enough, fit enough or in general motivated enough to do stuff with the rest); after the avalanche, as far as I've heard every single survivor was active and participating in the society as well as they could

13 of the bodies were untouched. They put the bodies of the relatives apart ie the bodies of Liliana Methol, Eugenia and Susana Parrado and also of Francisco ‘Panchito’ Abal as he was Javier’s cousin. Everyone agreed that these bodies were to be left to the very last. The bodies of the last three who died - Arturo, Rafael and Numa were also untouched as they had been very emaciated and had infections when they died. After Nando, Roberto and TinTin left Fito Strauch and Gustavo Zerbino went looking for bodies they knew were further up on the mountain. They found that body of Daniel Shaw and brought it back. As he was Fito’s and Eduardo’s cousin his body was put with the other relatives. The next day they recovered the body of Carlos Valeta who was the youngest person on the plane. Carlos had fallen out of the back as the plane slid down the mountain. Those outside of the plane saw him running down the mountain and shouted out to him (you can hear them doing this while Numa and some of the other boys were with the pilot). Carlos disappeared, it seems he fell into a hole in the snow and probably suffocated. Some of the boys tried to reach him but they sank into the deep snow.
Carlos Valeta’s father who was a doctor suspected pretty early on about what they ate to survive and said ‘"I'm glad there were 45 in the plane so that 16 could come back home to their loved ones". Some other families of the dead were as supportive, but others were not.

Also remember there was plenty of gasoline spread around the plane after the crash. They didn't know which parts of their surroundings where cleared of it and which not. So lighting a fire could have been setting the whole plane on fire and not having protection against the cold anymore.

fun fact: the reason why they had so many cigarettes is because around that time Chile was going through a tobacco crisis, so Javier Methol (one of the survivors) thought he could make some good business selling cigarettes in Santiago, so he packed up all those boxes which they later found with the other luggage in the plane’s tail
another little fact: not only did some of the survivors make cameos throughout the movie, so did some of their relatives: Numa Turcatti’s nephew plays that neighbor walking by Numa’s house, and one of Javier Methol’s granddaughters also plays a small part as one of his movie counterpart’s daughters

The film is a cinematic masterpiece, not only because of the aesthetics, art, photography, make-up or script, but because they managed to tell the story as real and truthful as possible, to the point that the survivors actively participated in it and say that when they see it they relive in their minds everything that happened. It is wonderful the way in which Bayona manages to show the harshness of what happened with an artistic touch and a strong emotional charge and for the first time not only highlighting the figure of the survivors as heroes but also those who died and did not make it out of the mountain, which is why Numa's voice as narrator is so important. Each of the actors met the real person they were playing and most of them managed to create a bond with them, moving from interpretation to reality and giving the importance it deserves to what each survivor felt, because as they have already said, each one remembers the mountain in a unique way. I saw the one on red trying to contain the emotion, just cry, is beautiful too. Thanks for the reaction, I recommend watching it in spanish.

I think in situations like this the only way for people to truly understand how harsh the conditions and the magnitude of it is to show raw scenes like the plane crash and Numa looking out the window at the few eating of the corpses. Something I recently found out is that Nando's dad had moved on with another women in the time that he was trapped in the mountain's. He also had sold at a lot of Nando's and his mother and sisters things to family members and others. which its crazy to me. When Nando got back and had seen what was let of his things he was very hurt. The first couple of years after being rescued he didn't talk to his dad much, or visit during the holidays which was very hard for him. He sometimes would spend it with friends if they were available. But eventually he got his own family, and I believe fixed things with his father. Nando's father during this time and I believe until he died would visit the crash site of the plane once a year to visit the graves of his daughter and wife. Everyone deals with grief differently, and maybe his dad couldn't handle having all of his families things in that house, and he couldn't be alone. I can't imagine going through that.

The way I ran here when I saw this after finishing the Hill House video, haha! I've been obsessed with this story since the 90s after the movie Alive came out, so I've basically been upset about Numa not making it out for over 20 years now. It was a great choice to make him the narrator - either you go in thinking he's going to survive because he's narrating and you're shocked when he dies, or you get to spend the whole movie sad because you already know he doesn't make it. He was by all accounts a really, really special person who they all loved, even though he didn't know most of them before the crash. Nando calls him "the best loved man on the mountain" in his book. (Which, if you want to check out just one book about this, go for Nando's, Miracle in the Andes. It's fantastic.)
Trivia: after Roberto and Nando were found and Nando pointed out on a map where they'd find the plane, the rescue pilots didn't believe him, thought he had it wrong. They were like, nope, the plane can't be there, it's literally impossible that you've come that way. That's why they made him come with them on the helicopter to guide them. He was right from the beginning, of course.

Fernando (Nando) Parrado, the one that lost his mother and sister, and was one of the 2 that walked away to get help, he tells that he survived by sheer luck, he had originally picked a window seat, but his friend asked to swich with him because he promised his girlfriend pictures of the mountain, Nando was livid, inside, he gave him his seat because he though he had to act up mature, during the crash nando flew and hit his head and was in a coma for 3 days but the one that had his seat by the windows died because a blade of the engine slashed his leg, and died later because of cangrene

ahh thank yall so much for reacting to this!! im glad yall enjoyed it :) JA is now my favorite director from this film. crazy fact, but yall were on to something when you mentioned screaming after the crash. two survivors noticed Carlos V. who fell out the plane when they started sliding down the mountain and tried to shout out to him. unfortunately, the snow and loud wind sounds confused Carlos so he went in a different direction and fell in deep snow, suffocating. there's a scene of Carlos that was sadly cut out, so hopefully they add it into the director's cut! this movie really changed me in a way. times i dont feel like going on, i remember these survivors who did everything they could to continue living. thank yall again for reacting!! cant wait for more vids from yall 🤍
also, the actors really went through conditions to make them feel as close to the survivors as possible. not eating fr, being out in snowy conditions like that. they went through a lot to make it as real as possible, and for some of these men, this is their first time acting in a movie like this. in general really. they did really well for their first performance, i hope to see them more!

    Some facts about the movie:
Three of the survivors made cameos in the movie:
    - Fernando "Nando" Parrado: opens the airport door to his character at the beginning of the movie.
    - Roberto Canessa: Plays a doctor when they are received at the hospital because he is a doctor in the real life.
    - Carlos Paez Rodríguez: Represents his own father (Carlos Paez Vilaró) when he reads the list of survivors reading the name of his own son (“Carlitos Miguel Paez, my son”).
    - The house where Numa arrives is the real Numa's house and the walker is a Numa's nephew.
    - The suitcase that Gustavo Zerbino didn't want to leave in the Andes was full of belongings of the deceased that he took to their respective families.
    - The actors underwent a diet under strict medical supervision so that their bodies would more realistically reflect the effects of what the survivors went through.
    - The survivors and the families of those who passed away say that this movie is much more faithful to the real events, unlike the film 'Alive!' which was more of a spectacle than a tribute. In addition to changing the names of the characters, they altered almost the entire story.
    - All the survivors (except for 2 who died in 2015 and 2023) are still alive. You can search for their accounts on Instagram.
    - The location of the accident (Valle de las Lágrimas [Valley of Tears]) can still be visited today, starting from Argentina (as it is a substantially shorter journey): it takes several days on horseback and hiking through the mountains. It requires several days of planning and good physical condition.
    - They were there for 72 days. On the first day of rescue, they took some of them and a group of rescuers stayed who set up a tent a little away because of the smell. The next day they rescued the others.
    Hugs from Argentina. 🤗

i already commented before but i didn’t see anyone else mention this so yeah: a lot of people have come to agree that the reason why Numa was chosen to be the narrator even though he didn’t make it is precisely because of that. past renditions of this event have, for the most part, focused on those who survived the accident (particularly Nando and Roberto, who made the whole 10-day trek through the mountains), while in Bayona’s version we get to see a lot more from the victims too. as the last one to pass before the rescue, Numa is the link between the survivors and the victims, with his voice representing the voices of everyone that didn’t make it back from the wreck, carrying their memory alongside his words
the care and thought everyone in the lsdln team put into this movie makes it such a beautiful homage to everyone involved in the tragedy, and it’s amazing to see just how far it has come and how so many people now know about this story

Hello, how are you guys? As a Uruguayan, I'd like to contribute a bit to the history and the movie.
-Everything was recreated as it was in the 70s in Uruguay, including taxis, the airport, bars, churches, everything.
-Part of the survivors appears in the movie. Fernando Parrado opens the door at the airport for the actor playing him, and the actresses playing his mom and sister. Carlos Paez plays his own father, reading the names of the survivors near the end. Roberto Canessa is the doctor accompanying the actor representing him when they arrive at the hospital.
-Roberto Canesa became one of the best pediatric cardiologists in the country, a job he continues to this day with a foundation that helps children with congenital heart problems. One of the children he saved is the son of a friend of mine
-In Uruguay, we don't have mountains or snow, and they didn't have the necessary clothing for the cold since the city they were going to in Chile didn't require it.
    Greetings from Uruguay!

Thank you both for a beautiful and insightful reaction. You caught onto the nuances more than most other reactors have. This is a true story, and this movie was made with the blessing of the survivors (there were 15 still alive at the time of filming, Coche Inciarte died in 2023 so we are now down to 14) as well as many of the families of the deceased. As others have probably pointed out, the man reading the names of the survivors was Carlitos Paez himself, Nando Parrado had a cameo opening the door for some of the characters when they entered the airport at the beginning, and Roberto Canessa was the doctor walking behind Roberto the character (he's a pediatric cardiologist in real life too!) There were other cameos that are harder to spot, such as Tintin, Eduardo Strauch, and Coche. I highly recommend watching the Making Of documentary, or the 1995 documentary "Stranded!" where the survivors retell the details of the story (th-cam.com/video/aKToM0lnmxA/w-d-xo.html)

Your reflection on eating the other deceased at 22:59 is so spot on. That's exactly what drove Nando to go through the mountains instead of going back to the plane. He knew he would end up eating his sister if he went back. Just imagine being literally at that crossroad! At the peak of a mountain. One path, you eat your sister and you may survive on being rescued. Eating your sister is a sure thing, being rescued is not. Second path, you will walk to your death. Not eating your sister is a sure thing. Walking out alive is not. And so he choose the second path. And he lived.

The director and others explained that giving a voice to Numa was like giving a voice to the deceased. It is funny (I don't know if funny is the word) in these reactions, people get surprised when Numa dies. I understand, I knew though because of other writings and movies or TV shows.
They hardly mention the dead people, until now.
It is like the director (J Bayona) purposely gave them (everybody dead and alive, and relatives) the respect they needed and the appropriate closure, by the reaction I heard from them. I guess he thought he was just filming a cool movie like the impossible, but so many people now, it was more than a movie for many.
I heard older Roberto Canessa from like 10 years ago (he has been always very candid) saying (funny) "We were dead, they abandoned us, they thought we were dead. Now, what did they care for what we eat? Besides that wasn't even the hardest part" And incredibly for many, not for me really, the relatives of the people that they allegedly eat (because they didn't eat all) , they were the most understanding.

Como una persona cuya lengua materna es el español , dejame decirte esto: A algunas personas simplemente no les gusta o no pueden leer subtitulos y eso esta bien , deja que cada persona disfrute de las peliculas a su manera.

Yes, so sad 😢 they mention Gustavo "coco" nicolich instead Gustavo Zervino... At the end,in the helicopter, you could hear Nando saying something in spanish like: "here they are, ALL OF THEM", because they didn't know if someone else died in these 13 days while they was walking. Roberto and Nando didn't say the names of the survivors until they could confirm that everyone still alive, Roy Harley and Coche iniciarte was in really bad shape, they couldn't survived so much more. They were rescued in december 22nd and Coche inicarte mark the 24th as the day he gave It up
The rescue is one of the few things in the movie that was changed, It was did in two diferent days so they stay 72 and 73 days there.
They are talking about that 51 years, they are really proud that someone tell their story as they always want, talking about the friendship, the love and the effort to never give Up. Their story is truly inspiring❤ (sorry for my english)

these are survivors who have nothing provided to them, they need to be resourceful. this one of the great reactions bc you guys give feedback on their actions rationally.

They made due w/ what they were given! It’s easy to be negative towards them having to compromise their morals during this BUT if you put yourself in their shoes understanding they may not be rescued it’s easy to see why they did what they did. We appreciate you💙

Some of the survivors were in the movie! Carlitos Páez plays his own father and reads the names of the survivors.
In the movie when Nando Parrado arrives at the airport with his family, the man who opens the door for him at the airport is the real Nando Parrado.
Other survivors made cameos but they are extras and others scenes sadly got cut off like Gustavo Zerbino’s (the guy who colected the belongings of those who died) who played a couch

      A couch?
I am not so surprised that some cameo wherent in the movie with the cut. I kinda hope they will share the extra scenes or will give us a director cut but the movie is good like that. There is also Numa's nephew who did a cameo too.

I don’t know what happened to my original comment, it seems like a TH-cam bug or something but I’ll just repeat what I said before: I watched y’alls reaction on Patreon and I made two long comments one with info on where they are now and fun facts that were not in the movie. I don’t know if y’all read it but do read those comments when you have the time.

All those things like saying "put on your seat belts we are landing in the Andes", all that, that sounds like foreshadowing, in a way it was but it wasn't invented by the writer it actually happened, one of those kids did that in the plane as a joke of course, I read that a while ago in the reader digest, I mean decades ago. Many things that sound or look like added by the writer to add drama, he didn't have to add drama, they happened, even the man that found them looking exactly like that, the letter Nando wrote, that's the incredible part of this story
Eating the sister or not, that wasn't the issue because they hurt for all their friends, almost equally painful, no that "this is easy because is not my sister or my mother" nothing like that.
To me the miracle is that almost every instance they kept their sanity, no one kill anybody, that only happens in the lord of the Fly I think.
Because in other shows when they start killing or attacking each other to survive, what I hear is "that's what happens" and no! that is not what happens among civilized people or people that do no want to lose their human spirit. I get 1 or 2 people get crazy , but all? (except in lord of the Flies, they were children, therefore weaker)

Hello guys, great reaction. If you watch it again, theres a nice details and cameos. The real survivors are in diferents scenes. Just whatch Nando,s mother and sister entering in the aiport. The real one Nando open the door and let their in. The real one Roberto Canessa is a doctor and he take himself into the hospital.
Also the last guy with phone , telling the list of survivors its, Carlos Paez another real one survivor.
