we just got back from our Snowdonia holiday and when I visited our friends at the Convent retreat house I noticed 2 bottles of Penderyn. Obviously retreats go better with a glass or 2 of Welsh!

I believe you were stumbling over( I sted ford: English pronounciation) . It is a gathering of Welsh peoples to listen to poems, music and stories. Has a tradition which goes back many generations.

That would make sense! I haven't come across it before in the context of Welsh culture - but in Australia they had a sort of "high school Eurovision" contest called "Rock Eisteddfod". Never knew the origin of the name. Thanks Dad!
