    Needs more views and engagement. These DIY projects are just fun and get you thinking about other ways to approach a problem without going "Whatever, I'll just buy another 100 dollar thing and throw out the old one." Usually a DIY project is easier than it seems and nothing beats the satisfaction of using something you built. Just gotta build it.

    You're probably the first person that I saw that made a button box without any fancy stuff. You printed the box, put the buttons in and wham-bam-thank-you-m'am you made a button box

    I've considered doing this a few times before, but didn't want to figure out the USB/controller side of things. This will help if I ever get back to a game where I want more buttons

    This is a fantastic video and deserves way more views!
    The final product looks great! All it really needs from there would be some stickers under each of the buttons to indicate their intended function (which of course is very easy for the end user to customise to their liking).
    You could even modify the file before printing to add a bit of 'etched' text under the buttons and then fill it out the hollow with a little bit of hobby paint and a small brush for contrast. Wouldn't add much cost and would look really good imo.

      TH-cam doesn't like pushing my videos, this is unfortunately nothing new lol. I appreciate it though.
      Yeah, stickers would go a long way from a visual perspective. Looks like its easy enough to pick up some on ebay or etsy. I like the engraving idea too. Having vr, labels kind of pointless outside of atheistic since you can't see the buttons anyway with the headset on.

    Dude these are cool!! I just made one that has a handbrake on it. The hand brake is just a lever that clicks a button but I am cheap and won't buy myself a handbrake if I can make one. I also have an ignition with a key start. It feels so cool starting your sim car with a key.

    That's amazing how many things you built for your rig with a 3D printer, especially the button box and keyboard holder, you could make some money selling those stuff...

    Helpful tip with that USB cable and plug, you should make a simple knot in the cable right after the plug going to the button box, then hot glue....dont ask me why its just the right thing to do

    Worth noting this doesn't work well if you have the Ali express shifter. They use the same generic device drivers or something so assetto couldn't tell which was which on restarts of the manager.

      @JankyDrift  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good call. Also meant to mention in the video that I'm not sure you'd be able to run 2 without them being seen as the same device, but didn't make it in.

    • @protomor
      @protomor 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JankyDrift it sees them as separate devices but with the same name. So it never remembers the right button mapping. I had this setup and moved to the stream deck instead.

      Been on a long pause unfortunately. Was aiming to squeeze that one in before my kid was born, but he decided to come 3 weeks early and sleep deprivation has not been kind to the TH-cam channel lol. I filmed this video in April and just now got around to editing
      Hopefully soon.

    Is there any way to add a key starter for the button box with out changing the wiring too much?

    • @JankyDrift
      @JankyDrift  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Saw your original comment about console - the problem is that all the console peripherals have to be coded to that console in order for them to work. It'd be like trying to connect an Xbox controller to a playstation via the USB port, they don't speak the same language. There's probably just not enough demand for companies to produce console compatible boxes.
      For the key switch... It'd probably be relatively easy. Could basically take one of the blue and white wires I use in the video and solder one lead to either side of the leads on the key switch, then when the switch is turned to "on" it would complete the circuit basically the same as pushing the buttons does.

    I built mine around 5 years ago and the last 3 days for the life of me i can no longer get it to show up on ets2 it worked fine and still shows up on my pc and i can go into the windows setting and bring up the option to test the box and all the buttons work but in ets2 i have no option for it anymore. And im completed stump so any help would be appropriate

    • @JankyDrift
      @JankyDrift  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately I am not sure I can help with that specific issue to much, but if all was working fine and then it suddenly stopped working then I would try rolling back any recent updates first, be that ets2 or windows.

      Where did you get the module from? First thought is maybe you got a dud. Mine shows generic joystick as well but obviously has all 12 buttons available. Reach out to me on discord and I can try to help you further, through the comments is hard.
