How to Crochet a Tank Top that Fits YOUR Body! Truboo Yarn Crochet Tank Top Tutorial

- I'm so excited to finally share this project with y'all! I've been wanting to try Truboo pretty much since I first heard about it, and a basic summer tank top seemed like the perfect project. In this crochet tutorial, I share my process to crochet a tank top, as well as how to make it fit your body.
Once you make one, you'll want to make more! Don't forget to put your own spin on this tank top - try making it a cropped top, add edging, or change up the neckline - the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. I'm so in love with this pattern and the possibilities that I've already started a second tank top in this same style but with different yarn. Also, I definitely see more Truboo yarn in my future. 😉
I hope y'all enjoy this project as much as I did!

^My 4mm bamboo hook in the video is from a knooking set (side note: don't learn to knook, just learn how to knit or Tunisian crochet), but this pack looked very similar (and I suddenly feel the urge to buy more hooks lol)

This is an incredible lesson on sizing and the best tank top video I have watched for personalizing. Thanks. I learned a great deal.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Crochet clothing took me a long time to get right. I would follow patterns but then be frustrated when the garment just didn't work well for my body type haha! So anyways, I'm glad the things I've figured out over the years through trial and error (mostly lots of error) are proving helpful for you as well! Thanks for watching.
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! it's exactly what I needed from a garment design and construction aspect. I've seen a ton of tutorials for tank tops and tees, but they're usually just rectangles joined together, or in the round, which while achievable by a beginner, honestly often results in an unflattering 'sack of potatoes' look. Yours shows how to customize the size and how to shape the top to our curves so it'll flow properly to skim over our contours. Excellent foundational detail that can be applied to our own designs of other garments. Plus, I'd never seen the alternate turning chain before. It gives a great finish to the end of the row. Thanks again! I'm so grateful that you've shared your techniques so that I can move forward with clothing that will be flattering and that will result in a garment that I'll actually want to wear. You rock!
This makes me so happy to hear! I've had a very long and frustrating journey to be able to crochet my own clothes, same issues you've described. When I follow patterns, it turns out the garment just doesn't flatter my body even though it technically fits. Then the "adjust to your own size" projects tend to be... handmade looking in a bad way on me 😂 Fortunately, with some trial and error (mostly error), things started to click with how to create garments that fit nicely. I love that I'm able to share the techniques I've learned, and I'm so glad this was helpful! Have fun crocheting!
Excellent tutorial! I learned so much about how to make my tops fit better. Thank you!
So glad this was helpful! Crocheting clothing was tricky for me at first because it requires thinking in 3d and the fabric doesn't always act the same as woven fabrics like store bought clothes are made from. But the good news is, with each crochet top I've made for myself, it gets easier to get a perfect fit.
You are a great teacher, thank you for sharing your art❤
I love the way you explain how to do things! E.g. the way you do your “turning chain”. I’m doing this every time! Thank you for many clarifications! 😊
You are so welcome!
@@CraftersAutonomousI love this tutorial. Going to try making one for my DIL with some beautiful truboo yarn I ordered. How many skeins do you think I’ll need for a medium size woman. I know it goes by measurement from hip to top of shoulder but I am unsure of how to determine total yards with this pattern using a 4 mm crochet hook.
For splitty yarn before you start your work slip one bead on your yarn and it will hold your yarn together when you crochet or knit good job on this piece 👍❤️
Oh my gosh!!! This is GENIUS!!! I will definitely be giving this a try!
This is goIng to be my first attempt at clothing. This video is what is giving me the courage to attempt it.
I believe in you! You've got this!
This is what I will make next. I like this top, and how you wore it at the end with the V-neck at the back you could even add a tie across the shoulders. I made a skirt last year using Truboo yarn and I love it. I also like working with cotton bamboo which is also soft and doesn't split as much.
I hope you have fun with this project! And yes, the cotton bamboo blends are a dream to work with too. It's the best of both worlds: the durability and ease of use from cotton with the comfort and wearability of the bamboo.
Wonderful video!!! Just venturing into clothing for myself. Thank you!
This is great, can’t wait to try!
Love this!
Love tour tank top so cute
Thank you!
Thank you! So many good tips and instructions! How much yarn did you use for your top?
You're so welcome! As far as the amount of yarn I used, it was just over 650 yards, which is a little over 2.5 skeins of truboo. For additional reference, I'm about a women size 2-4, and the tank top I made measures approximately 21" in height and around 34" in circumference. Hope this helps you figure out how much yarn to get! I over estimated how much I'd need and bought 5 skeins. But I guess the good news is now I have leftover Truboo to make another project haha
Gorgeous
Thank you!
TFS really cute tank top. 🐞🧶
Thanks! I'm really excited about how it turned out.
Is the normal turning chain 3 or 2 chain, Im loving this, I hope I can do it...
@@cmphillips1968 most people use 3 ch as the turning chain when working double crochet stitches. But some people only use 2. If I'm using a turning chain with my double crochet, sometimes I'll use 3 chains and sometimes I'll use 2. Mostly a matter of personal preference! Whichever result you like best is the one to go with. Hope you have fun with this project! You've got this.
