After watching the full suite of videos for this album, in the correct order, multiple times, it became pretty obvious that these ladies were trying to tell a story and make a point via the videos. (I can't really speak for the lyrics, as I don't speak Japanese, and reading English translations of the lyrics doesn't make the lyrics match up very well with most of the videos). I've had some fun "interpreting" the "story", via watching the videos. Of course, musical interpretation can be a very personal thing, and everybody is going to interpret things in their own way. But here is my interpretation, how I see the "story". Based solely on the content of the videos, and the packaging of the CD (which I own), I have come to the conclusion that the band is making a satirical criticism of the way women and girls are portrayed and treated in the media/entertainment business. i.e. as sex objects whose only purpose is to generate money. They do this by showing a band going through various stages of its existence, and how the record company/the media manipulates everything into "more money" at the expense of the actual people who are making that money. Since I am commenting on this particular video, I'll forgo presenting my entire interpretation and focus on this single chapter in the larger story. "Monopoly" (incidentally my favorite song in the collection) depicts that point in a band's career where the singer's ego gets a little too big, and the "artistic differences" start to kick in. In the context of the larger story, I suspect that the singer's ego has been stroked by the record company. (I remember watching the "The Doors" movie years ago, and a scene where a record company rep pulled Jim Morrison aside and tried to convince him to dump the band and go solo.) While I mentioned above that the lyrics (at least in English translation) don't really match up with the videos, this particular song is the exception. The lyrics are about pure selfishness and ego. This video is a depiction of the lead singer clashing with her bandmates over "artistic differences" and deciding to "go solo". The video shows this by the four instrumentalists displaying "King" playing cards - they're all equally important members of the group. The singer pulls out and proudly displays a "Queen" ... and the end of the video show her alone and removing her Queen card from the pile of cards on the table.
I'm actually glad that you described the theme of this album, Rik. I was never really clear on all the continuation notices between the videos. Some were fairly apparent, such as Fuki bringing the band together on the 5th track. A song and video that I didn't fully appreciate at first until I really took notice of Fuki's amazing vocals. My favorite track, Karakuri Town, obviously shows the girls under control of some power that they eventually attack with Tomo-Zo's guitar. Not really sure how Fragrance fits into the whole theme. Seems to be about either a lost love, or a girl very sad that her perfume is running out. Wish I had a translation for the whole album.
how is this 10 years old, and we're just now finding out about it? The Japanese ladies have been killing it for a decade and us dudes in the west are still thinking Babymetal is as deep as it goes. I love me the Fox Gods, but there's so much more going on over there.
J-ROCK has been around for a while but I think the moment has passed. I hope I'm wrong but I think the peak moment was around 8 years ago. A lot of these bands have started breaking up and reorganizing and retiring and not a lot of new groups are coming on the scene.
@@coleman707 They're just coming into their own. Band Maid has been creatingt success after success. I've not looked recently but I think DOLL$BOXX have a relatively recent new album and Gacharic Spin as well? (Been out of it for a while with some heavy personal stress but revisiting and taking the time)
Jaylie Piatt She's one of the best bass players I've ever heard, and I've listened to a lot of them. I grew up on Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Joey DeMaio ... I've been playing bass for 30+ years, and Koga kicks my ass.
I can listen to this album non stop. Any one of these girls could carry an entire band on their talent alone but all five together is pure awesome. Now, PLEASE do another album!
I found out about DOLL $ BOXX two days ago. After reading up on them, I'm pissed I'll never see these girls in concert...because holy shit they are all amazing. Every last one of them.
dorandragon I miss geeky hana sometimes, esp the silly, crack koga up hana, but the glasses were never real. at least one pair had no lenses at all but they perfectly matched the high squeaky voice she was using back then to create the ultimate cute nerd,
SamCrusader1 There's just something awesome about a drummer who can also sing lead. People like it because it's so unusual. It doesn't hurt that Hana is a totally kick-ass drummer! HOLY F**K (self-censored) she's good!
this is one of my favorite dollboxx songs though i like GS Winner even more. i play these two albums plus army's pure sex song ben.jan.dhan along with some favorite american stuff for 4-6 hours a day while i m driving my truck. after nine moths,,hasn't gotten old yet. also.. love the symbolism in the vids on this one: check out the cards; suits, colors and ranks heres a hint...koga's suit color on her closeup should be yellow not green.
I have to say.... I'm an American Male, and this is the second song I've ever heard of them and was absolutely blown away by the first one I watched (take my chance), and now here I am again, blown away by their voices again, so good!
Initially I didn't quite like their sound as its neither a consistent metal or even the raw grit of hard rock, nor is it consistently funky enough to make for an easy listen. But since I really liked Fuki's vocals I gave them a few more listens and weirdly enoigh, its starting to grow on me almost like a whole new area of my musical tastebuds has been activated specifically for these unusual blend of sounds. I'm starting to understand why some people are crazy about babymetal
Fuki (lead vocals) is amazing. Hana (drums) is beautiful and a great drummer/singer, But I'm totally in love with Michiko "F chopper" Koga. Not only an incredible, versatile, bass player but also drop dead gorgeous!
You never record the video live, the mastered song is played over the top. Hell, even the live gigs get edited to sound better. This is true for almost every band releasing a video with very few exceptions.
These girls kind of just destroyed my standards and perception of reality, and somehow with only 2 songs became my absolute favorite band ever...So Im kind of speechless right now (//o//)
they are gonna be touring the U.S. in 2018 so yeah don't worry. you'll have your chance to see them in concert on American soil. them and a few other girl band's from Japan.
DOLL$BOXXは、PVひと目見たら
「もう活動してないなんて勿体無いんだ!」と誰しも思ってしまうバンドだと思うんだよ

Hello, Sherlock
Dude don't bogart that joint. Your Mom told you not to do drugs. Sounds like you're not enjoying the music. Lmao.

The bassist is adorable "haha yay watch me kill it on the bass!"

Rik Spanks she does slap bass as well which is bonus points in my book
That's F Chopper Koga! You're right, she totally kills it on the bass.
opwave79
somebody once told me shes known as flea of japan or japan's flea because of how good she is at slap bass dunno how true that is
AnvilMAn603 Cool!
やっぱり全部揃ってるよなー。すべてのパーツが揃ってる。後は活動するだけ。
So, Sailor Mercury became a drummer.
Instead of a doctor. XD
Sailor Mercury wishes she was this drummer.
PLUS PUT THIS ON SPOTIFY!!!!
I generally identify as straight but damn Hana got me swerving
とても企画ものとは思えないレベルのPVだなー。すごいイイ!
I can listen to this album non stop. Any one of these girls could carry an entire band on their talent alone but all five together is pure awesome. Now, PLEASE do another album!
Scott Nichols Hey, check out their new album, titled "High $pec"...there are also some videos on VictorEnt.'s channel!
I NEED MORE DOLL$BOXX!!!!!
Search for Fuki Fes 2017 in Fuki's website,
Still in love with this era of the group. I wish I could get this album on vinyl instead of CD
This is sincerely the BEST band I have discovered in a long time.
F Chopper Koga! What a BEAST on bass!

Same here haha
Likewise mate. 😂
最後のギターソロ大好き!
フレージングもトーンも完璧!
Años que no escuchaba esta joya. La encontré buscando monopoly doll perfume (por fragance)... Jajajaja recuerdos bien guardados
1:29 they knew about china 7 years before we did
THIS IS WHAT I WAS THINKING they even have a clock that looks like the virus.......
BWHAHAHAHAH EXACTLY
Seriously one of the best songs i've heard in my life. These vocals are not of this world!!
A singing drummer? I've seen everything.
GuineaPigWWE shes also the lead singer/drummer of the band Gacharic, you should check out their song spin.
i saw it recently. Crazy huh
GuineaPigWWE drummer and vocalist? two words: Shishido Kavka
+GuineaPigWWE Skillet
+GuineaPigWWE Really isn't that much of a rarity. Phil Collins, George Harrison, and Dave Grohl were all drummers who did vocals.
ugh i can't.. pick a favorite.. i love them all for different reasons :'D
歌うますぎ!
New Doll$Boxx is FINALLY coming!
It's being released this Fall.

Yep, I'm literally in love with Hana...
Not often you see the drummer as the secondary singer in a band.
Who plays monopoly with cards?

Every last one of these lovely ladies is amazingly talented and beautiful.

Anjir lah kok...
Oh my god I am absolutely blown away by her vocals
She's singing in Unlucky Morpheus now
I'm in love with the drummer!
One of THE best songs in the whole world. Love this group, I wish they were on apple music or Spotify 💕💕😭
The lead singer is badass in this vid .....however, everyone here seems to like the drummer more
Koga is my favorite too. I've been following her since her Pink Panda days
Yep, the other girls from PP have all grown up (BLiSTAR) but Koga still has that youthful looks
SamCrusader1 the lead singer is actually the drummer.
Dustbunny ENT Yep in Gacharic Spin
Hana (the drummer) is the lead singer, but in Doll$boxx, I'd say Fuki would be the lead, with Hana the second-lead
SamCrusader1 There's just something awesome about a drummer who can also sing lead. People like it because it's so unusual. It doesn't hurt that Hana is a totally kick-ass drummer! HOLY F**K (self-censored) she's good!
me enamore de la baterista ;w;
Would love to have translated subtitles
i love you DOLL$BOXX . it's nice metal rock band

on this one: check out the cards; suits, colors and ranks
heres a hint...koga's suit color on her closeup should be yellow not green.
fukiちゃんの声いいな~( ・∇・)気持ち良く伸びて心地良い。今やってる活動もいいけど、doll$boxxの方がfukiちゃんの声とメロディーが際立ってサイコー
I have to say.... I'm an American Male, and this is the second song I've ever heard of them and was absolutely blown away by the first one I watched (take my chance), and now here I am again, blown away by their voices again, so good!
I've never hit a subscribe button so fast!
Im in the same boat, heard Take my chance then this. Now im listening to their other various projects... could be a long night lol
+Mack Eroni if you like metal the main vocalist Fuki is in 2 other bands light bringer and unlucky morpheus
they broke up years ago, alas. The lead singer was also in Lightbringer who you might like
Youre not the only one, they're mind blowing dude
ひたすら全てがゴージャスで圧倒的ですよね
I'm playing Monopoly. I want to pass Go and Go Straight To Japan.
wow,' they are good and beautiful.

They all are..lol. And don't forget tommo on guitar. That smile while playing complex runs is infectious
As much as I admire Hana and Fuki and the rest, the coolest member of this band has to be Koga!
I have the BIGGEST crush (I'm 27) on Sato Hana! I will learn Japanese and then start to make a wish to meet this amazing band! I am a huge fan
Cutest and Gorgeous are these waifu anime dolls, i mean, waifu girls
I don't think I've ever developed a crush as quickly as I did for that drummer.
I am in love with Koga, the bass player!
I have the album on CD, since it came out almost 10 years ago, nya nya
That double pedal action tho😍
She plays the mess out if that piano that's why she's my favorite
Damn this was 6 years ago!?
Tienen su propio escalafón. ¡Qué bruta!l
Awesome!
The Drummer is so beautiful a real dream girl!
アルバムに入ってる曲がことごとく突き刺さる
Maaaaan :((( Fuki is looking a lot like Armmy in this vid......... R.I.P Armmy.
who is armmy?
+Andy Mata the former vocalist of Gacharic Spin Band. Armmy sadly passed away last year :(((
I just can't get over how amazing this song and video is. Its just so good i can't even contain my excitement! I love dollsboxx so much! aahhhh!

I wish this was on Spotify! I only listen to this band's old stuff when i remember it's on youtube.
Oh really, I'm pretty sure this there only album. So what would constituent there old stuff, when this is it?

Bメロが好き!2:21 FUKIがカメラ目線になるとこ超イイ!!
I'm in love with the drummer, Hana.
They know their cards. Love the melodic song. So cool.
How do they manage to be that kawaii and that punk at the same time
It's not fair
