Great Smoky Mountains 1702: Steam Returns to the Smokies

After a 12 year absence, steam returned to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad on July 26, 2016. Following a two-year restoration, and missing the planned inaugural run on the 22nd due to a bearing issue, GSMR 1702 thundered out of Bryson City right on schedule with its first passenger train since 2004. The engine and its crew put on a great show for the passengers and spectators all along the line to Dillsboro, on the first of hopefully countless runs to be made along the former Murphy Branch in the coming years.
