The poles of fear, the extremes of how the Earth might conceivably be doomed. Minor exercise in the care and feeding of a nightmare, respectfully submitted by all the thermometer-watchers in the Twilight Zone.
There were basically three types of scary episodes on the TZ. The first was the old dark house type horror, the second was the total loss of reality story (a guy wakes up and nobody knows him or a guy is in the office one afternoon and finds his life is a movie) and the third were apocalyptic fear stories (The Shelter, Obsolete Man, Midnight Sun,)
they really need to make a full ass movie out of this episode. like some sort of intimate slow-burner disaster movie. and they need to use the motifs from this theme, of course
In August 2016, I caught strep in the summer, in America, my fever was high I was burning on my upper half, and my lower half was freezing, so I went to the dr, my body temp, was 103.3. 😱🙀
This whole story was set in a living room. Lois Nettleton said that she and the other actors had to have special lotions sprayed on their faces to resemble sweat.
this music is too dark for Jerry Goldsmith. Van Cleave is the credit. it is defininetly more in the range of horror, much as Gil Melle' in "Night Gallery". Where as Goldsmith more Gothic but not horror. ominous like in "Back There". depicts dwarfing one in new surroundings in that. this is definitely Not Goldsmith! it depicts. impending doom. Van Cleave writes the more gloom and doom and some psyco tracks. though Leonard Rosenmann does that psyco stuff sooo well!

The midnight sun in Vorkuta is possible and due to the seasons... For example, approximatly every six mounths, because of it's geographic position beneath the poles, the day is constant a certain part of the summer and six mounths later, due to the winter, the night can last about ten days... It's amazing... Isn't it?
Not that it isn’t well done - it is - but why would anyone want to buy this track and have it on hand to listen to? I mean, it is jusr so dreary. It compliments the episode perfectly, sure, but yeeesh, what a depressing track to listen to on its own... :/
I find it hauntingly beautiful. Yes it's about helplessness. Literally accepting your end is nigh. That there are things completely beyond your control. Standing in total awe of the mighty sun. Wonderful.

This sent a chill down my spine, and really made me feel the horror that the people in this apocalyptic world were feeling.

Can I ask where you got this recording? I haven't been able to find this episodes score commercially available anywhere yet.
On my DVD collection set, Disc 3, it has "Isolated Score by Van Cleave". One of the most chilling things I've ever heard in my life.
