  • Last Episode we discussed the law and how whilst camping is technically trespassing, it is usually tolerated if you follow the wild camping guidelines... and here they are!
If there's any I've missed (trying to squeeze into 5 minutes) please put it in the comments below!
Remember, these are guidelines. They've been put in place to ensure that EVERYONE can enjoy the outdoors and continue to do so for years to come. There is an environmentally protective culture across the wild camping community, and anybody who is starting out, should really start to adopt this culture.
    Guideline 1 - No Litter!
This should be an obvious one. Take your rubbish home. There are lots of reasons to not litter, and not a single reason to litter. I've talked about it on the channel before but it's a growing problem. More and more people are enjoying the outdoors but this shouldn't mean more rubbish! Take your waste home with you. if you can carry a six pack of beer up a mountain, you can definitely carry six empty cans back down. Dog and human waste is no different and should be dealt with properly (how to S**t will be in a future episode).
Guideline 2 - Pitch Up Late, Pack Up Early
If you don't want to get caught, this is the easiest way. Land owners/representatives are usually asleep at night. If you set up late in the evening, no one is going to be around to move you on. Simple.
    Guideline 3 - Fires
This splits opinion. Who doesn't enjoy wild camping next to a fire?! However, there are a lot of risks with fires and in this day and age, they are almost completely unnecessary. For warmth? Take a warmer coat/base layers. For cooking? Take a stove. The strict Leave No Trace principles say no fires. The fire can spread far quicker than people realize (especially in the tinder dry conditions that we've had recently) and not just visibly. Fires can burn through the ground and catch the roots of nearby vegetation which can spread for miles. For the sake of this video, no fires. I will go through how to safely have fires (but only with the land owners permission) in a future episode.
    Guideline 4 - Small Groups
Large groups means more litter, more erosion, more noise, more chance of being spotted, more everything. Keep to small groups to avoid this!
Guideline 5 - Keep it Quiet
Noise travels very far at night time, especially in the wild. If you want to listen to music, take head phones, not a boom box. I've been in the mountains and in the middle of two long days, all you want to do is sleep. A group of "wild campers" had set up their camp 2 miles down the valley and could hear their music, their excitable screaming, ridiculously loud cackling. Just because you're outdoors, doesn't mean you forget your indoor voices.
Remember, these are guideline and not rules. If you don't want to listen to them then don't, but you will be ruining for other wild campers, local residents, the wildlife, and mother nature.

Thank you buddy! Maybe one day it’ll grow and I’ll be able to do way more with the channel but till then, just enjoying putting the vids together and hopefully helping others out. Really appreciate it! 🙌
