Hi Seb!! If you're ever wanting to take a breather from reacting to true crime, Stephanie also has another podcast called Moral of The Story which is definitely lighthearted in comparison and around pop culture!! I'm always so grateful whenever a new episode is released because they're palette cleaners for me! No obligation or pressure btw! I just wanted to provide a suggestion/option since taking in so much true crime content can be tolling! Anyway, as for this case I literally cannot fathom that this happened in the 80's/90's!!!! I never would've imagined something like this took place so recently. That in itself is already incredibly disturbing but then the details of what was done to those innocent citizens, majority of which were CHILDREN, and the reason for why it all happened is just so beyond disgusting on so many levels. I had to take breaks from this episode because my brain had difficultly processing the fact that those survivors aren't even that much older than most millenial's parents.
I do understand your frustration seb about how any of this was possible or allowed to go on for as long as it did but I have to remind you that this was during the time SK was ruled by a terrible dictator so majority of the crimes committed like SA would easily go unpunished ( i mean even today rapists don't really get punishment in sk) same goes for the rest of the atrocities committed. Also all the guards are monsters like cho do soon who have no morals whatsoever and are enjoying being able to freely commit crimes like abuse and sa that they probably dreamed of committing .
In part 3, Stephanie did mention some of the guards was victims that being promoted as guard. There's no details on this since none of these guards were speaking, but it clear from the details that Stephanie mentioned, that victim turn guard was also traumatized.
I just read this now> From fact check article, squid game isn't inspired by 1986 incident. The images were AI. "Series director Hwang Dong-hyuk explicitly stated that Squid Game was inspired by his personal hardships and his observations of extreme socioeconomic inequality in South Korea. He drew additional inspiration from Japanese dystopian works like Battle Royale and Liar Game." Today's my first time learning about Brothers home incident as korean American. My parents only told me about Gwangju massacre long time ago when we watched two korean movies about Gwangju massacre. Choon doo hwan was evil😢
I know that there is a lot of similarities between this and Squid Game BUT this sounds soooo much like the drama Blind. The plot is like the escaped kids who are now adults plan revenge on the adults all connected. It’s really good. Seeing this that it was REAL yeaaah I don’t blame any of them if they did plan revenge Yeah after watching the whole video I’m HEAVILY convinced the drama Blind was written about this. Seb you gotta watch it one day. Taeceyeon from 2PM is in it
Seb is happy Steph releasing new video, and I'm happy Seb releasing new video watching Steph 😂 I can't watch her content by myself, it stresses me out too much, I need someone to watch with, and Seb's vibe doesn't annoy me like other TH-camrs who also watch Steph 😊👫
Except in true life, people weren't given a choice to participate. They were taken off the street, homeless people, poor people, mentally ill people, handicapped people. Nobody was given a choice, and the "pastor" who organized and enriched himself from brother's home never paid for his crimes.
What makes me angry was, even the owner of Brothers Home get away with the crime, at least people know their face. What about the cops that brought the victims in. Their identities never reveal.
It's not like Squid Game, it's just compared bc people were held hostage in like a detention center being abused, neglegted, starving... it has nothing to do with Squid Game.
PIN MAYBE? Grazy Tv / Grazy Grace Did a video about this 2 years ago. I highly recommend it! Kinda hope they do a video together! The case is SUPER heartbreaking.
Lol and how? Is she making up these stories? No. She's telling real tales. Just because you belong somewhere doesn't mean you close your eyes to its atrocities.
Not getting self hate, getting someone who is into true crime and likes to do videos about it. She's Asian, the stories she covers are predominantly about Asians. Interesting and understandable, but not getting self hate from that.

It’s wild so many people in the world genuinely enjoy doing these things. I’m repulsed by them and can never understand.

But, this things did happen in Busan in the 80s...
Technically this probably didnt inspire Squid Games but this really did happen.
@@allier1867 oh ok
@@mirayoon1992 she makes up details with no sources
@@slee2695 Wikipedia said brothers home incident is real while not really inspired squid games

This sound like a concentration camp😢
Which makes sense as Korea was ruled by a dictator at that time. It's so sad
