This is one of the funniest comments I’ve seen. Hockey community really thinks they have fans😂 least watched sport in the whole world. I seriously had no idea it was opening day or hockey was even starting soon nobody cares to cover it. Hockey is just a weird sport, they wear 50 pounds of protective gear on their body but won’t wear face shields and call themselves tough, that’s pretty funny to me. NHL has the lowest viewership and lowest salary per player. I heavily doubt a second channel outperforms a channel with 2 million subs getting hundreds of thousands of views
In the clip Pat highlights you can even tell that for a split second Beecher realizes what he's done and even starts looking around for who is going to make him answer for it. There is a code on the ice, without it the game can get out of control pretty quickly. It is one of the things that I love about hockey: that the players can police the game and hold each other accountable. That being said, the game has changed a lot over the last 40 years I've been watching. I would say that fighting has definitely toned down a lot in that period as well. Now is an exciting time to start watching. We have potentially 3 generational talents: Crosby, McDavid, and Bedard all sharing the ice at the same time. It is hard to appreciate the skill, athleticism, and toughness it takes to play the game especially at the highest level. What an exciting time to be a fan.
so glad you touched on laffy’s fight. as a kings fan, kid single handedly not only got me back into the game but has me excited for him as a player and the season! It really is an understatement to say that a good fight can change a game for absolutely everybody. Wish the best for that kid.

We all get together a couple times a month for some private ice time with all veterans so we could help you guys get fit for gear and then drop in with us for some fun!!
You’d also be doing a great service for vets! A lot of veterans don’t know these teams exist and that they can meet up with all these other vets that love hockey, I’ve helped a few vets find teams that have seen my videos. So a mention of the Warrior program by you would be massive to grow the veteran hockey community!!

Definitely the biggest barrier to entry for new fans. People that grew up playing/watching dont realize how confusing it is and hard to follow. The best advice I can give is to follow the players and not the puck. After awhile you'll start to see the puck more but generally just follow where the players are all looking@TP-pq9xx
I went to my first NHL game earlier this March at MSG for the Rangers and I fell in LOVE watching it. So I’m excited that this is my first full season of watching the NHL
Hockey is one of the most insane sports. Fighting, worth ethic(the one you talked about, and the barron skate to the face), the crowds are insane(coming from a jets fan), and it just so skillful and incredible to watch.
I never gave hockey much of a thought until I started playing beer league at 40 years old. After realizing how difficult it is, you gain an all new appreciation for the pros and how masterful they are.
I love this hockey coverage!! Football is my #1 sport but i gotta watch the NHL playoffs. So amazing. I played hockey from 2011 to 2019 and i loved it so much im so glad hockey is being brought to light more and more in the US. Thanks guys!
As a kid I had two groups of friends. Hometown friends and hockey friends. During the hockey season there were lots of parties, cookouts and outdoor rink parties. It was awesome. We really became like family. My first fight was when I was 12.
Hockey's biggest strength is that it is truly a global sport. players from all over chasing a small black puck around a frozen pond. Truly the best sport on the planet and it needs more coverage from people like pat and the crew. Thank you for spotlighting this great sport.
It would be awesome to have a daily or weekly segment of hockey talk since That's Hockey Talk is on hiatus! Let Nick and Gump break down some of biggest moments/games, then try to get Rupper in when you can so he can interact with the boys again. As a massive hockey fan (let's go pens!), this is a much appreciated segment!
Great SEG! Even though this show is primarily about the NFL, I love you guys using your platform to pump up other sports, especially hockey because like you said, the NHL is AWESOME
Hockey is an incredible sport. It’s about the team, not the individual. If your teammate gets cheap shot or hit hard, you fight to defend your own just as you expect someone to stand up for you if you end up being the one getting crushed. They’re all brothers. Fighting in hockey is different. It prevents cheap shots and dirty stick work which is way worse than chucking nucks; mainly into the others helmets. Playoff hockey is by far the greatest playoffs in sports.
ESPN has always done a horrible job @ promoting hockey. Prior to this segment, he talked about how nobody @ the espn offices seem to care about Hockey and how he wants to change the culture. Also talked about how he can finally have access to NHL highlights (now that he’s with ESPN). He’s definitely doing it for his own love of the game, I don’t think he’s a die hard, but shows great appreciation for the sport 🤙🏼 One of the best sports if not THE BEST in the world. So glad they’ll have this segment! The talent at the NHL level is getting unreal.
Hockey and boxing have been my bread and butter my entire life, in that order. Love to see the show get recognition. No doubt there's a lot of respect between the NHL guys and NFL guys, apart from that one ding-dong who said he could make the NHL with one year of practice or whatever. Big ups, physical sports get their share of scrutiny, but the love you share with the other boys who did it and the memories you gained make it worth it.
As a Canadian, never understood why Americans don’t LOVE hockey. It’s fast paced, hard hitting, American teams have won the Cup since ‘93…. And oh yeah did I mention bare knuckle fights?
I think hockey media (at least TV in America) has done a great job over the last 5+ years of really leaning into how funny/absurd some hockey personalities are. Super entertaining. I think over the next 10-15 years when most franchises will go through a winning cycle (maybe not a cup but really good teams consistently making the playoffs) more and more interest will happen and hockey will be much bigger
It's crazy being in the states and seeing NO hockey at all. No games on TV. No reporting. Like 50 sports shows, and 0 mention hockey. It truly is hated in America.
Hockey is like football in a way. it has a epic history filled with legends, characters and stories. Its fast, violent and entertaining. Hockey is geting softer yet at the same time it's becoming wiser and strategic... ty Pat for some hockey! And ,like me for football, keep learning, crosby ain't top 3
@cousinpatsey2471 You could argue Jagr and Howe as well. But at that point they're all pretty close. I think we missed out on the best Crosby when he was out for basically two years
I grew up in Tulsa, OK and we've had minor league hockey here since the 1930s. My mom took me to games here when I was in grade school. I was hooked even then. This past season, I got to take my mom and sit with both my kids and their wives and my grandchildren, just to show my mom what she had created: 4 generations of hockey fans, and in Tulsa, Oklahoma of all places. We sat right behind the visitor's bench and my sons and I heckled those poor players relentlessly. It was awesome, it's one of my favorite family memories.
Grew up a Lions fan in Atlanta (long story). Lived in Raleigh a few years for work. My place was near PNC Arena. Became a huge Hurricanes fan and never looked back. Just got tickets to the Canes Redwings game December 14th in Detroit....and Lions Broncos in Detroit on the 17th. A perfect long weekend! Love ut when things work out perfectly!

I'm a hockey player, fan of the NHL, listener of the show, and from Indy. With all that being said im so mad at myself for missing the most amazing seg of all time. At least I caught it 8 days after on youtube.
Growing up I fell in love with hockey right away, loved watching the tail end of Gretzky's career, then he retired in 1999, the NHL was almost never on TV again. Here in Wisconsin, we don't get NHL cuz we don't have NHL, the only hockey we do have is minor league or college, so for years that was my only exposure. I go on a social website, met a buddy there, he's from NJ near the border of Philly, he converted me to be a Flyers fan as Wisconsin has no NHL teams. He sadly had to leave the site in 2017 to pursue a career in social working with special needs kids, which hit close to home as I am a person with high functioning autism. This buddy showed me how to stream and follow the Flyers since 2014 and I fell in love with the NHL all over again. Then the 2017-18 season happened, the Vegas Golden Knights would expand, and opened everyone's eyes. They kept winning. To be the 1st team to make it to a championship series since the St. Louis Blues did during the 60's expansion years, is unheard of, the difference is that Vegas faced established competition by that point! To this day, Game 1 between Vegas and Washington in that season's Stanley Cup final was the GREATEST HOCKEY GAME I EVER SAW! 4 lead changes, 10 combined goals, both records! Controversial calls, minimal penalties, big hits, amazing goaltending and defense, just PURE jaw dropping action! The game was so great that it was drawing NBA fans AWAY from their sport because it was Warriors vs Cavs again and the Stanley Cup final was just that DAMN GREAT! It astounds me how Hockey isn't more popular than the NBA/MLB. NBA is so boring, so predictable, 1 man can make the difference between a winning season or not, very unlikable players, and a toxic fanbase that make themselves look like total douchebags. MLB is trying to fix their stuff, but they're losing great players, I can't see anyone that debuted in this decade becoming a hall of fame player. Hockey? Has an amazing welcoming fanbase, they don't care who you are, they will give you an olive branch to come watch because it legit is a more the merrier situation! The banter between rivals is better than even the NFL! The memes are hysterical compared to any other sport! The traditions that hockey fans have created are better than any other (teddy bear tosses, hat trick tosses, catfish for the hurricanes, rats for the florida panthers, you name it!). And this is going to sound ironic, but the Hockey fanbase is classier than any other, even when drunk. I have yet to meet a hockey fan that is from a lower poverty class family. Hockey is the best sport!
I concur! I started watching hockey about 5 years ago when I went to a game with my friend... Instantly fell in love. It's soooooo underrated. Hockey is in fact awesome.
At almost 40, and growing up with the great one playing. I regret not getting into the sport earlier. It is so much fun to watch. I've been watching from the start of this season, as much as I can, and I have loved every game I've seen.
I still haven't chosen a team to follow. Don't have any local team so I'm watching to see who entertains me most. I wanted Vegas, cuz they have the same color of my favorite nfl team (saints) but their PA is beyond annoying. Also I don't want to be seen as a glory hunter.
Hockey is amazing!! And the pace of the game and how short thr stoppages of action are makes Hockey one of the best sports to watch on tv and in person. The players are animals the injuries they play through
I haven’t played hockey in years but I used to play for 15 years. Played from youth to juniors, the fights were amazing in juniors. Had a few bench brawls and I’m not a big guy but when a fight breaks out win or lose both teams get so fired up. Hitting rates go up and chirping goes out the roof!
Back when Bud Adams took the Oilers to Tennessee, I gave Hockey a go and everything the segment said it true. I picked the Red Wings not even knowing that that version of the Red Wings was basically a NHL All-Star team. It was awesome. A year and a half later there was either a strike or a lock-out and I moved on to Nascar and that was awesome too. I haven't ever made it back to Hockey. In the Houston area there just aren't a lot of fans to converse with to make it interesting in the long term.
Finally someone on ESPN that stands up for Hockey because Steve A. Smith and pretty much 90% of ESPN doesn't even talk about it. But you boys God bless you just don't talk about it you get soooo into it same goes for women's basketball THANKS BOYS KEEP IT UP

Never thought I’d become a fan of a florida hockey team, as a Minnesotan, but watching Chucky and the kitties do that last year was incredible.
As someone from Buffalo, hockey is practically a religion for us. Hockey is by far my favorite sport. So hearing you guys putting the sport over is amazing.
Hockey in person is always a goodtime. The skates on the ice, the sticks clashing and getting the sh*t scared out of ya when a 200+ pound guy gets checked on the glass directly in front of you ... at full speed😂😂😂😂😂
always a classic! haha
I love you man. We need more people pumping hockey up. Hockey is a great sport. I think the biggest problem with hockey and it's small fan base is that hockey is too fast for most people. People are used to a play, then a break, then a play, then a break... Hockey is FAST AND TOUGH, what a great sport.
Would appreciate the boys giving some breakdown episodes of the basics of hockey
Facts. I'm clueless but it's like I just have to much to keep up with as is but some patmacedumaction would help
Honestly man, a lot of it comes easy. Pick a team, maybe a local one, maybe one with a rivalry against a city you hate. Whatever reason, pick a team, watch, and the learning will come without trying
Keep your fuckin head up!!
pucks in deep. keep ur head up. wheel snipe celly. keep it simple. one shift at a time. play a full 60. good things happen when you go to the net. forecheck backcheck paycheck.
Jesus please no. For everyones sake. These guys are as casual as sweatpants.
I been a sharks fan on and off my whole life, I just got back into a few years ago took the wife to her first game, surprised her and she was not happy about it at first, half way through the game she is enjoying it, and loving it, this year we did a flex 10 game plan, next year season tickets, and went to a pre season game against LA and there was a fight, and she enjoyed it, glad she enjoys hockey now
I gotta say, I am a bit jealous most teams in the league have the plans to see games and just fair prices... meanwhile being a leafs fan costed me 1200$ to bring my dad to see mcdavid last year LOL
The 4th game I ever went to as a kid was vs San Jose in their 1st season in Winnipeg, I think Tampa Bay got their team that year too or Ottawa, I always thought the Sharks were a cool team, love that original logo
@@cndnclassics5874yeah that sucks, prices are insane for a leafs game, Toronto should have a 2nd team like new york, I have season tickets for the Jets, front row upper deck on the face off dot in the defensive zone, they average around $90 a ticket this year, without season ticket discount my seat would be $140-$150 for a leafs or oilers single game, probably under $100 for Phoenix or Columbus, they have 3 different price ranges depending on who the visiting team is, sucks that leafs games are so expensive, I bet a beer there is $20 at least
Thanks for captain America! Stars appreciate him!
That’s awesome! Good luck this year!
-A Leafs fan
ESPN needs to get Pat on a game broadcast. As a life long hockey player and fan, I appreciate the excitement he brings when he talks about hockey. Get him and PK Subban on a live broadcast ESPN, DO IT!!!
Grew up a Red Wings fan, and going to die one. Pat... You could honestly have an entire second channel for reaction video's to hockey with the boys, and it'd probably do just as well as the show itself
Same here LGRW
LGRW!!!!!
LGRW
Let me guess, you grew up in the 90s 😂, i hated them and colorado cuz they knocked vancouver out in the 1st round 1 seed vs 8 seed, I would always say well at least the team that knocked out my team won the cup 😂
Me and my dad used to watch the Blackhawks every season when I was like 8-13 years old, 21 now and watched my first game again the other night and have to say it felt good watching again.
keep shining the light on hockey Pat! more fans the better!
Thanks for the AMAZING shout out for our sport of Hockey! I play at 46 years old as a Goalie and my 10 year old son plays as a Goalie as well! Keep it going & help this sport grow
Pat! I know you have options, should you choose to do so, but the Vegas Veterans would LOVE to have you guys out to Vegas to learn the game and play with us! We’re a disabled veteran team that competes against other disabled veteran teams and you boys are GUARANTEED to have a great time!
As A former Hockey Player it feels great that we are getting noticed and show the world that the NHL or any other hockey league is fun to watch with family and friends
It’s getting more notice because it’s finally back on ESPN.
Got into hockey recently(last year), the games are fun and entertaining
@TP-pq9xx it will be even tougher to follow in person, they zoooooom. been playing and watching hockey my whole life. you will never see anything more entertaining than a live hockey game.
@TP-pq9xxIf you have an ad blocker there are many options. 🏴☠️🌊
Which team have you chosen and why is it the Capitals? XD
@TP-pq9xxopposite to me.
I went to my first NHL game earlier this March at MSG for the Rangers and I fell in LOVE watching it. So I’m excited that this is my first full season of watching the NHL
Are you a new Rangers fan? If you are, welcome aboard this fantastic roller coaster ride!
Hockey is one of the most insane sports. Fighting, worth ethic(the one you talked about, and the barron skate to the face), the crowds are insane(coming from a jets fan), and it just so skillful and incredible to watch.
This is what we hoped for from hockey on espn!!! Keep this as a regular segment let’s goooo
I never gave hockey much of a thought until I started playing beer league at 40 years old. After realizing how difficult it is, you gain an all new appreciation for the pros and how masterful they are.
Pat getting aggressively more yinzer as he's hyping up anything is always a blessing. Love ya Pat!
Huge hockey fan here. Much respect to you guys for doing this. Thank you.
This was amazing. You're incredible for doing this for the game, most people dismiss it as a game with too much chaos.
Great SEG! Even though this show is primarily about the NFL, I love you guys using your platform to pump up other sports, especially hockey because like you said, the NHL is AWESOME
Love it guys! Much respect for lifting up the greatest sport in the world from across the pond in Scotland. 💪🏼
Best playoffs in sports!
As someone who played for 17 years up through college.. it's great to hear more people getting into it and lovin it. Greatest sport.
Love seeing some love being shown for hockey. My favorite sport by far and easily the most exciting playoffs
I truly believe Pat loves hockey, but you’re not gonna convince me that ESPN didn’t ask him to have a segment on hockey on a regular basis…
Whatever it takes to grow the sport.
pat tweets about hockey all the time. ESPN might of talked about working in the segment but he has talked bout hockey on here a lot still
ESPN has always done a horrible job @ promoting hockey. Prior to this segment, he talked about how nobody @ the espn offices seem to care about Hockey and how he wants to change the culture. Also talked about how he can finally have access to NHL highlights (now that he’s with ESPN). He’s definitely doing it for his own love of the game, I don’t think he’s a die hard, but shows great appreciation for the sport 🤙🏼
One of the best sports if not THE BEST in the world. So glad they’ll have this segment! The talent at the NHL level is getting unreal.
Even if they did, it’s a refreshing change from “nobody cares about hockey in America” and “the only thing I know about hockey is the puck is black.”
He literally explained why they didn't and why they can now. Access. Not complicated and nobody cares if ham slice is convinced. It's not bacon bro
Hope to see you guys cover some more hockey as the season goes on
As a Minnesotan and Hockey junkie, you speak truth.
Hockey's back! Let’s go!
Pat giving hockey and lacrosse their flowers as of late is so awesome to see!
Hell yeah!! Always enjoy PMS showing love to the great sport of hockey. Keep the seg!
I equally appreciate pat trying to get the masses into hockey. Let's go!!
Love the hockey segments! Keep them going!
No, but he is top 4. Only players that are better are Gretzky, Lemieux, and Orr.
Hockey is the most dangerous game someone could play, and I love it!!!! Put some hockey players in the NFL, that'll make them boys men.
@cousinpatsey2471 You could argue Jagr and Howe as well. But at that point they're all pretty close. I think we missed out on the best Crosby when he was out for basically two years
You gotta get Biz on. Biz and Pat together would be a perfect match to grow hockey
As a huge Canes fan this season will be awesome. I was at the opening game at PNC and what an experience it truly was
That game was awesome! I loved the brawl Staal had with Tkachuck at the end. So sick
Crazy how underrated hockey is in the US. Baffling
I'll tell you why you should watch hockey this season: McDavid and Draisaitl
I did.. last night 😂😂😂 and.... well...
@@thewizardofoz511chop it up to a bad game for the oil. Those guys are still the top 2 forwards in the league
I'm a hockey fan already and this seg got me so hyped I got goosebumps.
Love it the NHLs views are down but the promotion going on right now is insane I love it been playing hockey since I was 4 years old I hope I’ll be on that screen one day. Never seen so many people getting into hockey it’s the greatest thing ever!
Pat is one guy I love to listen to for all of his positivity. And I’d say should show clips of Cale Makar. Guy is breaking NHL records for how insane he is
I'm a hockey player, fan of the NHL, listener of the show, and from Indy.
Please keep this segment, hockey needs you
I concur! I started watching hockey about 5 years ago when I went to a game with my friend... Instantly fell in love. It's soooooo underrated. Hockey is in fact awesome.
Thank you Pat. Everyone who has grown up loving hockey and has wished it’d get more respect all thank you as well
At almost 40, and growing up with the great one playing.
I can’t wait to see more Hockey coverage. Hell yeah, keep it going boys.
I've been watching hockey since my step-dad moved us from Colorado to Ontario back in '94 ... thank you Canada.
That family going nuts after the fight was one of my favorite clips ever!!! So cool
As a Canadian and hockey fann al my life we need more segs like this much appreciated hockey is truly amazing
I'm 🇨🇦 and just became a HUGE McAfee fan more than i was before. Truth Speaker.
Remember when Jesse Ventura said in the movie PREDATOR…… “I ain’t got time to bleed” ? ……THAT’S 95% of hockey players 👊💪👊
Let’s go Pat! Appreciate the shoutout 🏒👊
Finally someone on ESPN that stands up for Hockey because Steve A. Smith and pretty much 90% of ESPN doesn't even talk about it. But you boys God bless you just don't talk about it you get soooo into it same goes for women's basketball
THANKS BOYS KEEP IT UP
Southern Hockey fan here. Thanks for getting the sport more exposure
I knew Pat was a man of culture.
