I was just playing this game yesterday. That proves just how much of a nostalgia-holic I am. I play these old school games a lot and I'd always be happy to play these classics.
2 is always the love hate one. When I was a kid I never got close to ever beating it but I loved the game so much i remember playing it like it was yesterday.

Thats because its NOT a Mario game. The REAL Super Mario Bros 2 was never released in North America, only Japan. The real Super Mario 2 was a carbon copy of the original Super Mario Bros game in terms of graphics, music and character design. The only difference was the level layouts and it was MUCH harder than the first game. Nintendo America thought the real Super Mario 2 was too difficult for American’s because, well, American’s are kinda stupid, so they never released SM2 in North America. This game in the video is actually called Doki Doki Panic, a game that has nothing to do whatsoever with the Mario series. Nintendo just took that game, and changed the 4 playable characters from Japanese Anime type characters into Mario, Peach, Luigi and Toad, then slapped the Mario name on it, and fooled American players into thinking this was actually Super Mario Bros 2.
I use to come home every day after school and conquer this game using all the warps. I did play it through the first few times and it was fun. I love part 2.

Many of the NES flagship games sequels of that era were radically different from their predecessors Zelda II: The Adventure of Link looked and played totally different from the first game, even though the same team made both games and considers it canon. So did Castlevania II: Simon's Quest from the original Castlevania. Yes, made by Konami but was and still is considered a NES/Nintendo flagship franchise to the point they even got Konami's permission to include it in Super Smash Bros. All three main franchises did go back to the old engines or made new versions of their old engines to many fans demands while most liked the newer engines, the vast majority liked the old engines or would accept new versions of the old engines. Hence why Super Mario Bros 3, LoZ: A Link to the Past and Castlevania III were new versions or even 16-bit versions of the original engines

@@chrismc410 Either way, I hate SMB2 West édition for being so darn difficult, that was meant to be SMB2 East's quirk. I used less save states on The Lost levels than the DDP makeup, which was used because The Lost Levels was apparently too difficult for western audiences.
You went through all of that just to see a man sleeping in his bed at the end of the game. lol It was funny to me to think that it was all a dream. This by far is one of the best Mario games ever made.

Even the music from the main theme of this game is played very often in the show. This game itself is actually very interesting also, because it was not made into the typical formula of a Mario game.

Like many, I absolutely love SMB2. To me it is one of the perfect examples of how a platform game should be done. Since I'm an adult, I was kinda shocked to discover some people dislike it. Sorry but, this is head and shoulders better than the Japanese one. Is not even a contest. The controls alone leave the other in the dust, let alone graphics, music and the gameplay.
Idk why but those ice levels with the vases? Hella nostalgia!! And the rocket ship. Oh yeah and the lil ninja star guys and throwing bombs at the walls.
I used to watch my cousin play through this game. The graphics do remind me of the vivid weird dreams I sometimes get after eating candy at bedtime. I could see Mario thinking up a world like that in his sleep.

I was a BIG Super Mario Bros fan growing up. Mario 3 is my favorite video game of all time and Super Mario Bros is in my top 5. This was my least favorite of the 3 but still a fun game. I didn't beat it until 2007 on Gameboy Advance. I played earlier this year and it took 2 WEEKS to beat it! It was so hard. Much respect to this fun game.

They were the days weren’t they. I remember seeing the Mario sleeping cartoon at the end after beating the game and thinking how good the animation was. Great times.
Mario 2 is pretty easy if you use the right strategy. The key is to stack up a bunch of coins, and therefore, extra lives on levels 1-1 and 1-2. Subworld coin areas can be robbed for coins twice in each level. Completely skip the small coin areas at the beginning of the levels and hit the big coin areas at near the end of each level. Enter the subworld with the potion, grab all the coins. Then when subworld ends, go through a door to reset the potion, come back, and rob the whole area again. With about 25 chances on the slot machine, you should end up with a lot of extra lives. When I played today I had 16. Then when you warp to level 7-1 with that many lives, it'll be pretty easy to finish the game.
I beat it today in an hour. But if you don't collect a lot of coins and extra lives, it can be hard to finish. Much harder in the black and white days pre internet.
This is the american one, the actual super mario bros 2 is japan exclusive and much more like the first super mario bros. Japans super mario bros 2 is also called super mario bros the lost levels.
The Japanese version of Super Mario Brothers was so much harder than the original that companies worried other gamers wouldn't be able to handle it. So they for the sequel took an existing game and inserted the SMB characters and elements into it. That's why it is WAY different from the first one.

49:37 On the last level, if you go up the chain on the left and access the red door, it lead to a mushroom that increases your health bar. That makes it easier to complete the final level, especially if you have limited lives.
