I am watching this video for the second time as a new viewer, now subscriber. I watched this the first time skimming through it assuming the verdict and suggestion would be at the end and was somewhat disappointed to not find it. I now decided to give it a proper watch and to my surprise, the verdict is given at the very start. It is so refreshing to see a high-quality, in-depth review that provides the flexibility for those who are seeking a recommendation without the detail but to have that detail for those who wish to see it. I was definitely not expecting this - many thanks! Don’t reckon I’ll be needing much guidance on this topic for the future as I’m only browsing this since I’m in the market for a high-end electric tootbrush but had to subscribe to support such excellent content. @@ElectricTeeth I’ve opted for the Prestige 9900. The simplified design and the single brush configuration makes it much more friendly, especially when the metrics and claims show it to be better. On peripherals, the portable case has an edge in aesthetics whilst the charging stand seems more robust and rigid than the glass. Definitely! Will be looking forward to your content in the future.

I have an old sonicare diamond clean. Using it for 11 years now. The bloody thing just wont die. I have to charge the battery every 3 days now so im going for a new one. Leaning to the Prestige
The charging glass is way cooler than the new cheap looking charging stand with the Prestige. I currently own both the 9700 and the Prestige, and although the Prestige is my go to, it really seems like they skimped out in a lot of ways in order to add in the new features and keep the price competitive

@@lisabayer4411 from what I know, you can use the all in one head brush just fine. I just don’t like the old design, especially the power button (had 2 9300 and they all messed up). For p/p I’d personally recommend to buy 9700 model with 6 extra head brushes instead. It was sales off for around $199
How is the durability of the 9900 Prestige? I am a dentist and I had every Sonicare models in the past (with discounts). The Diamond Clean smart broke very easily. I had to replace within warranty once and even the replacement didn't last a year. Many of my coworkers experienced the same issues. I will probably get 9900 Prestige because of the discount we get. But I stopped recommending to patients because of its durability and the price tag.
The fact that the prestige has no physical buttons is a disaster waiting to happen and the fact that is relies on an app to change the modes is ridiculous. My diamond clean smart 9300 is still going strong and from what ive seen im not convinced I should upgrade.
It has a button, though its a pressure-activated switch rather than an actual switch. This reduces the areas from which water can enter the brush and the areas in which toothpaste can accumulate. I’ve had 3 diamondcleans before, over a period of 10+ years, and toothpaste seems to always accumulate behind the button and make it mushy, no matter how hard I clean the brush after use. It isn’t a touch-activated switch. You have nothing to worry about.
@@Boldnbeautiful86 I broke two diamond clean brushes because water entered the button in two years. It's such a poor design to allow there to be a seem in the buttons. Not sure if I should get a 9900 at this point, but seeing there is no seem or buttons, I think I'll pay more if it means the product lasts longer.
It's interesting that no one talks about torque differences between sonicare and Oral-B. Mechanically that would mean all the difference. I wonder what a physics/engineer would say

Sonicare would argue, based on their data that the Prestige is the better brush for cleaning. That is in part because it comes with the A3 brush head supplied in the box. However, you can buy this separately and use it on the DiamondClean Smart. In reality, they both clean the teeth as well as each other, providing you are using them in the same way (correct technique, brushing time etc). The DiamondClean is a bit easier to switch brushing modes, because you can do that from the handle rather than the app. So arguably the DiamondClean is better when you look at it that way.
Yes, you can. An odd quirk, actually discovered after recording this is that if you fit a brushsync enabled TongueCare brush head to the Prestige it changes the cleaning mode within the app. No other brush head I tried did this.

I’ve had quite a few Philips sonicare I just replaced my 9300 with the 9700 and I just bought a 9500 because it was cheaper (I think the 9 series are mostly the same just more brushes change the name right?) I had a 2 4100 that broke and now the 9300 sounds like it’s going out. Is the prestige having any issues like the 9 series when it vibrates weirdly and sounds super loud?
Did I understand the App doesn't show the 3d teeth on the Diamond Clean? I saw the U.S. based Phillips website they show that the 3d teeth app was available? I downloaded the app for the Diamond Clean and there isn't a 3d teeth view on the Progress. Any suggestions appreciated.
Hi Mark. What do you mean by 3D teeth exactly? The app does detect you are brushing the front of back surfaces of the teeth and shows this on an onscreen visual, which has a 3D effect to it. It doesn't focus on the biting surfaces of the teeth though.
Yes, you can. But to change the cleaning modes, if you desire, you need to use the app. To some extent, it defeats the point of the Prestige, if you don't use the app, but it is possible.
My wife and I share the same on an older oral b but have our own heads. Does two users of the base but different heads mess up the app tracking? Does it mess up the replacement timer? I like the usb c charger (we travel a lot) of the prestige but the diamond has room for two heads in the case. I’m torn 😕
These brushes are not able to track multiple/different users within the app. The data gets combined. This is a real frustration about these products. They are really designed for one user. It should be able to track multiple different brush heads, so your and your wife's.
How about the oral-B ? I saw that you explained the motor is the same ( numbers of strokes and movements) how is it in compare to oralB toothbrushes ? Also, do you know by any chance which electric TB is better for person with perio disease ? Recessions?
Sara. Different dental professionals have different preferences on which brush is best. Some will say Sonicare, others will say Oral-B. In reality, either used correctly, with a soft bristled head is fine. But, you may wish to follow your dentists guidance to ensure they are happy. The cleaning action between Soincare and Oral-B and how you measure the number of movements is different. Taking some of the technicalities aside they both do a great job of cleaning the teeth. What clinical evidence there is does favour Oral-B's oscillating & rotating cleaning action. But, in truth, more study and research is needed. The main take home message here is to pick one and use it correctly. I hope that helps.
Do your costs per day include the price of the toothbrush over a given life-cycle, e.g. three years? I was quite surprised by how high the daily cost is, I’m guessing this is mostly owing to the cost of replacement heads.
Hi Mat. Yes, we calculate the costs over 3 years. Brushes will normally last a lot longer, for example 5+ years but we just use 3 years for a consistent benchmark as realistically all brushes should last this time. The cost of the brush heads does affect the price here most certainly. Prices are subject to change etc, but we have tried to use pretty typical averages.
Christian. As far as I am aware both toothbrushes have the same motors, that offer up to 31,000 brush strokes or 62,000 movements. The same number of brush strokes and movements are offered by the vast majority of Sonicare brush handles, with the exception of only a couple of the most entry level (cheapest) models.
@@ElectricTeeth Which, on its own, is ridiculous. With the A3 head, go for a cheaper handle. Most of the features are useless anyway. Put the A3 head on a cheaper handle and you still get the 20x cleaning while paying WAYYYYYY less than the of the overpriced Prestige.
I now have a diamondclean 9000 special edition blue (EUR140) and a 9900 prestige(EUR180) midnight blue. Received the 9000 a week ago. And the 9900 just today. Bought both of them with very good coupons/deals. I ordered both, to test out them and decide which to keep or send back within 30 days. What I expected, that the Prestige metal pin was loose out-of-the box! What a cheap quality. They have exact same production date (august of 2023). And 9000 has no problem, 9900 has loose pin/shaft. I wonder why can't Philips can fix this production issue. They manufacture Prestige since 2021. Today is almost 2024. I would like to open the brush and fix it for myself, but then I loose the 2 years warranty.
I'm afraid what If the replacement is bad too. So... I did an agreement with the Philips Repair center on the phone. They order another handle for me, test it out if everything well then replace it to me. It will arrive on Wednesday. @@ElectricTeeth
I think the chances of the replacement being bad too are very low. I understand your concern though. I'll be interested to read which one you pick of the models.
What about battery longevity ? I had issues with 2 Sonicare toothbrushes in the past, battery would just be dead in less than 2 years and I switched back to oralB just for that.
Neither one cleans better than the other. The cleaning results are the same really. There are 'arguments' that the head supplied with the Prestige is better. But, this head can be purchased separately and used with the DiamondClean Smart. There is evidence to suggest that the Oral-B brushes clean better than Philips Sonicare models. But, in reality the difference isn't that great and even the authors of the research that compared both cited the need for more data.
I have the Oral B iO, which charges in only a few hours. The battery is now not holding a charge for more than 2 days, after 18-24 months of use. I read online that with Oral B you're supposed to charge the brush to only 80% and not let it run out completely. Who has the time to monitor such pedantic charging?? I appreciate the slow charging of the Philips models for this reason - seems to make the battery last longer.
I’m considering getting the prestige I have sensitive teeth the only thing I have concern about is, is the brush head on the prestige soft ? And can you interchange heads ? Ahhh soo stuck
Yes the brush head on the Prestige is interchangeable so you can use other heads. The bristles are not the softest of all the Sonicare heads, but they are not firm.
Everytime Sonicare comes out with a new brush, i get it! They are amazing, and working in a dental office, i never pay retail, i get them for around $80!
@@Gator87 No difference tbh, it just looks amazing, the case is USB C now, and the app is enhanced more. I got it for 105 since i work in dental so i had to get it lol!

Again it's hard to say. Probably the prestige given that they have a seamless button design to prevent debris building up around the power button. They implemented this because of issues with other models.
If my memory is correct (I don't have both to hand right now to check) then the Prestige will work in the DiamondClean Smart's charging glass. Although technically the Smart would charge on the 9900's stand, the frosted puck that holds the handle in place is shaped slightly differently so it won't fit.
We would. We get many request to review different products and unfortunately are limited on how many we can do. This is an older brush and more widely sold in the far east as opposed to the west where we are. So it is not a complete no Stephen. But to be honest, I think it is unlikely in the foreseeable future.
Loved the run through! I have a question, so the Prestige "only" comes with one brush handle (A3) and the Diamond clean has 4 separate. I just bought the Prestige and I have a few questions: 1) Is the A3 brush supposed to be a mix of all the 4 included with the Diamond clean smart? 2) Would you recommend me getting other brush heads as well? (I take my dental hygiene seriously and want to have the "best"). 3) If yes on question 2, is there one or two specific handles you would recommend? 4) As I understand the Prestige does not have the tongue clean or is that the "gentle"? Hi Marcus. In response to your questions. 1. Yes pretty much. The idea is that you don't need to switch brush head styles, the A3 is the only one you need. 2. No. The reality is whilst there might be some benefit to using different styles the differences are small and I have seen no evidence that can really justify switching between various styles regularly. It is a bit complicated because personal circumstances come into this. But, for more, sticking to and using just 1 brush head is more than good enough. Of course, if you want to, you can, but I see little point. 3.N/A 4. Ok, so interesting one. You don't see tongue clean as an option within the app, so no way to set it. But, I did learn (after the review) if you put a T1 TongueCare brush head on the Prestige, it detects this and automatically changes the mode to TongueCare. It is like it is a hidden mode. Well on my model at least it did this. Alternatively you can just use one of the standard cleaning modes. That is how I would do it. Or use a tongue scraper instead. I hope this helps.
What is a scrubbing sensor?! is it the same pressure sensor?I want to buy a Sonicare with a visible light on pressure sensor, I use alternative a Oral B and kt clearly shows light in case of hard brushing, But I use Oral B twice a week, my regular one is Sonicare but 😢only thing it's missing a Light sensor
A scrubbing sensor is different to a pressure sensor. The scrubbing sensor is assessing how quickly and repeatedly you move the brush head across the teeth. If you go back and forth really quickly like you might with a manual brush, this would activate the scrubbing sensor.
The DiamondClean Smart case is approx 22cm wide x 7cm deep x 5cm tall The 9900 Prestige case is approx 19.5cm long (excluding wrist strap) x 3cm deep x 5cm tall
Have the 9700 and about to get the 9900. Can you not use the tongue attachment with the 9900? It doesnt even seem to have a tongue mode. What are they expecting you to do?
Hi Devin. You can use the tongue brush with the 9900. We discovered after filming this comparison that if you attach the tongue brush head, it actually activates a tongue cleaning mode that we didn't know even existed on the 9900.

I don't think the charging class is compatible with the Prestige charger. The Prestige toothbrush can be charged in the DiamondClean Smarts charging glass though.

Witch is the better one. Diamond clean prestige 9900 or oral b iq9. I don’t care the apps and smart phone. Just overal for cleaning witch is better now Amazon has a good deals for oral b iq
It is hard to say conclusively. If we look at what data is available, the research would side with the Oral-B as being the better. If you are not bothered about all the features, I seriously suggest looking at much more cost effective models like the Oral-B Pro 2 2500 (UK/Europe) or Oral-B Smart 1500 (USA). These clean as well but save you a lot of money.

I have two pieces of Prestige because one of them cannot be turned on anymore. I thought I would buy another one once again. This new one as cannot be turned on as the oldest one. Great job by Philips. I love electric teeth brushes I decided to buy a 9700 smart clean. This it still works to me.
The problem is where to buy head replacement (I don't know how to say in english that) for the prestige. In amazon only shows the toothbrush itself. The replacement that are shown in amazon are different for the base head of the prestige.
Well this answer is subjective. The A3 head is arguably the best, but there are others similar. If you can't get the A3 head locally you could look to import them.
The 9900 seems pointless since you need the app the control modes. If you want full control of your toothbrush, the 9700 diamond clean is a no brainer. Nobody is going to take out an app to brush for two minutes twice a day. Especially at the price differences in the US.. Srry for the rant, but aside from the app features, are both brushes the same in cleaning power?
Rather frustrated that you spent so much time going over the $400 toothbrush app, but not the $220 brush app. What are the differences that you kept talking about?

The whole video is about total nonsense. All I care about is the differences in performance. How many oscillations per minute, what is the range of oscillations. That's all I need to know.

I disagree with you Peter to some extent I am afraid. Whilst power/movements has some effect it is not the most important thing. Brushing time, how often you brush and the brushing technique have a bigger impact. Had there been a difference between the power of the 2 motors, I would have mentioned it, but because they are the same I didn't feel it necessary to say.
@@ElectricTeeth They are the same in your opinion. Maybe they're not the same. And what you're saying is out of place. If I have two drills with a certain speed and hammering force, while the other one is half weaker, I will take the same job twice as long. A simple example from elementary school.
The number of movements between these models are the same as per the Philips Sonicare's technical specifications. It is potentially different for other models and for other brands, for sure. You example of a drill is a good example, and to some extent is true. Some toothbrushes have much less powerful motors and do not clean as well. The Quip and Philips One by Sonicare toothbrush being 2 examples. But, there is a difference when it comes to brushing your teeth. The example of the more powerful drill doesn't apply in quite the same way here. Whilst arguably there is evidence to suggest more power equals a better clean, ask any dentist and they will rate power lower down the list in priority compared to brushing time, frequency and technique. I am not saying this to be contentious, but this is what I have learnt from research and speaking to many dental professionals.

I’m really not with your reviews. I would welcome if you could more in depth with your reviews and for a longer period of time. Questions I ask myself are: - has Philips reingeenered their motor since the 9000? The 9000 destroys itself so are the issues addressed now? - what’s ur long term review on it and quality? Etc. Would love to hear ur opinion
Thanks for the questions. I could record much longer reviews. Truth is, most people don't want all the details. I have been known to talk for 25 minutes about a single brush!! 😁 There is a much more detailed full written reviews/comparisons (linked in the description) that covers some areas not covered in as much detail in the video. As far as I know, the motors are the same, or at least they produce the same output. There might have been slight reworking to the motor for longevity. Although I know some people have had issues with brush motors in the past, I can't say from my experience, this is a big problem affecting all brushes. The seamless button design prevents water and gunk ingression into the handle which might have some impact on previous models that don't have such. So far the 9900 is still performing strong. I can't use it twice a day every day as I have other brushes to test. I hope this helps.

It appears fine and the model we have had is still working. Only time will really tell with daily use.

I’ve had quite a few Philips sonicare I just replaced my 9300 with the 9700 and I just bought a 9500 because it was cheaper (I think the 9 series are mostly the same just more brushes change the name right?) I had a 2 4100 that broke and now the 9300 sounds like it’s going out. Is the prestige having any issues like the 9 series when it vibrates weirdly and sounds super loud?
I can't comment on this. Not had any reports of failures so far. Mine still working fine.
Did I understand the App doesn't show the 3d teeth on the Diamond Clean? I saw the U.S. based Phillips website they show that the 3d teeth app was available? I downloaded the app for the Diamond Clean and there isn't a 3d teeth view on the Progress. Any suggestions appreciated.
Hi Mark. What do you mean by 3D teeth exactly? The app does detect you are brushing the front of back surfaces of the teeth and shows this on an onscreen visual, which has a 3D effect to it. It doesn't focus on the biting surfaces of the teeth though.

Can you use the prestige 9900 without the app?
Yes, you can. But to change the cleaning modes, if you desire, you need to use the app.
To some extent, it defeats the point of the Prestige, if you don't use the app, but it is possible.
My wife and I share the same on an older oral b but have our own heads. Does two users of the base but different heads mess up the app tracking? Does it mess up the replacement timer?
I like the usb c charger (we travel a lot) of the prestige but the diamond has room for two heads in the case. I’m torn 😕
These brushes are not able to track multiple/different users within the app. The data gets combined. This is a real frustration about these products. They are really designed for one user.
It should be able to track multiple different brush heads, so your and your wife's.
How about the oral-B ? I saw that you explained the motor is the same ( numbers of strokes and movements) how is it in compare to oralB toothbrushes ? Also, do you know by any chance which electric TB is better for person with perio disease ? Recessions?
Sara. Different dental professionals have different preferences on which brush is best. Some will say Sonicare, others will say Oral-B. In reality, either used correctly, with a soft bristled head is fine. But, you may wish to follow your dentists guidance to ensure they are happy.
The cleaning action between Soincare and Oral-B and how you measure the number of movements is different. Taking some of the technicalities aside they both do a great job of cleaning the teeth. What clinical evidence there is does favour Oral-B's oscillating & rotating cleaning action. But, in truth, more study and research is needed.
The main take home message here is to pick one and use it correctly. I hope that helps.
Do your costs per day include the price of the toothbrush over a given life-cycle, e.g. three years? I was quite surprised by how high the daily cost is, I’m guessing this is mostly owing to the cost of replacement heads.
Hi Mat. Yes, we calculate the costs over 3 years. Brushes will normally last a lot longer, for example 5+ years but we just use 3 years for a consistent benchmark as realistically all brushes should last this time.
The cost of the brush heads does affect the price here most certainly.
Prices are subject to change etc, but we have tried to use pretty typical averages.

Christian. As far as I am aware both toothbrushes have the same motors, that offer up to 31,000 brush strokes or 62,000 movements.
The same number of brush strokes and movements are offered by the vast majority of Sonicare brush handles, with the exception of only a couple of the most entry level (cheapest) models.
@@ElectricTeeth Which, on its own, is ridiculous. With the A3 head, go for a cheaper handle. Most of the features are useless anyway. Put the A3 head on a cheaper handle and you still get the 20x cleaning while paying WAYYYYYY less than the of the overpriced Prestige.
I now have a diamondclean 9000 special edition blue (EUR140) and a 9900 prestige(EUR180) midnight blue. Received the 9000 a week ago. And the 9900 just today. Bought both of them with very good coupons/deals. I ordered both, to test out them and decide which to keep or send back within 30 days. What I expected, that the Prestige metal pin was loose out-of-the box! What a cheap quality.
They have exact same production date (august of 2023).
And 9000 has no problem, 9900 has loose pin/shaft.
I wonder why can't Philips can fix this production issue.
They manufacture Prestige since 2021. Today is almost 2024.
I would like to open the brush and fix it for myself, but then I loose the 2 years warranty.

What about battery longevity ? I had issues with 2 Sonicare toothbrushes in the past, battery would just be dead in less than 2 years and I switched back to oralB just for that.
We haven't faced any issues so far with the batteries. Without very extended periods of testing we can't say anything conclusively.

Neither one cleans better than the other. The cleaning results are the same really.
There are 'arguments' that the head supplied with the Prestige is better. But, this head can be purchased separately and used with the DiamondClean Smart.
There is evidence to suggest that the Oral-B brushes clean better than Philips Sonicare models. But, in reality the difference isn't that great and even the authors of the research that compared both cited the need for more data.

I have the Oral B iO, which charges in only a few hours. The battery is now not holding a charge for more than 2 days, after 18-24 months of use. I read online that with Oral B you're supposed to charge the brush to only 80% and not let it run out completely. Who has the time to monitor such pedantic charging?? I appreciate the slow charging of the Philips models for this reason - seems to make the battery last longer.

Yes the brush head on the Prestige is interchangeable so you can use other heads. The bristles are not the softest of all the Sonicare heads, but they are not firm.

The Prestige. But, only if you are going to make use of the smart features. The 9000's smart features are more limited. No real-time tracking etc.

Again it's hard to say. Probably the prestige given that they have a seamless button design to prevent debris building up around the power button. They implemented this because of issues with other models.
Are the charging stands interchangeable?
If my memory is correct (I don't have both to hand right now to check) then the Prestige will work in the DiamondClean Smart's charging glass.
Although technically the Smart would charge on the 9900's stand, the frosted puck that holds the handle in place is shaped slightly differently so it won't fit.

We would. We get many request to review different products and unfortunately are limited on how many we can do.
This is an older brush and more widely sold in the far east as opposed to the west where we are. So it is not a complete no Stephen. But to be honest, I think it is unlikely in the foreseeable future.

Loved the run through! I have a question, so the Prestige "only" comes with one brush handle (A3) and the Diamond clean has 4 separate. I just bought the Prestige and I have a few questions:
1) Is the A3 brush supposed to be a mix of all the 4 included with the Diamond clean smart?
2) Would you recommend me getting other brush heads as well? (I take my dental hygiene seriously and want to have the "best").
3) If yes on question 2, is there one or two specific handles you would recommend?
4) As I understand the Prestige does not have the tongue clean or is that the "gentle"?

Hi Marcus. In response to your questions.
1. Yes pretty much. The idea is that you don't need to switch brush head styles, the A3 is the only one you need.
2. No. The reality is whilst there might be some benefit to using different styles the differences are small and I have seen no evidence that can really justify switching between various styles regularly. It is a bit complicated because personal circumstances come into this. But, for more, sticking to and using just 1 brush head is more than good enough. Of course, if you want to, you can, but I see little point.
3.N/A
4. Ok, so interesting one. You don't see tongue clean as an option within the app, so no way to set it. But, I did learn (after the review) if you put a T1 TongueCare brush head on the Prestige, it detects this and automatically changes the mode to TongueCare. It is like it is a hidden mode. Well on my model at least it did this. Alternatively you can just use one of the standard cleaning modes. That is how I would do it. Or use a tongue scraper instead.

A scrubbing sensor is different to a pressure sensor. The scrubbing sensor is assessing how quickly and repeatedly you move the brush head across the teeth. If you go back and forth really quickly like you might with a manual brush, this would activate the scrubbing sensor.

Hi Devin. You can use the tongue brush with the 9900. We discovered after filming this comparison that if you attach the tongue brush head, it actually activates a tongue cleaning mode that we didn't know even existed on the 9900.

I don't think the charging class is compatible with the Prestige charger. The Prestige toothbrush can be charged in the DiamondClean Smarts charging glass though.

We don't go into lots of detail about the cleaning because the reality is both do a good job. What evidence exists suggest Oral-B is better. But, the review of research suggests more research is required.

It is hard to say conclusively. If we look at what data is available, the research would side with the Oral-B as being the better.
If you are not bothered about all the features, I seriously suggest looking at much more cost effective models like the Oral-B Pro 2 2500 (UK/Europe) or Oral-B Smart 1500 (USA). These clean as well but save you a lot of money.

I have two pieces of Prestige because one of them cannot be turned on anymore. I thought I would buy another one once again. This new one as cannot be turned on as the oldest one. Great job by Philips. I love electric teeth brushes I decided to buy a 9700 smart clean. This it still works to me.

The problem is where to buy head replacement (I don't know how to say in english that) for the prestige. In amazon only shows the toothbrush itself.
The replacement that are shown in amazon are different for the base head of the prestige.
It is going to depend on your location. You don't have to use the A3 brush head that came with the Prestige. There are other styles available.

Well this answer is subjective. The A3 head is arguably the best, but there are others similar. If you can't get the A3 head locally you could look to import them.
The 9900 seems pointless since you need the app the control modes. If you want full control of your toothbrush, the 9700 diamond clean is a no brainer. Nobody is going to take out an app to brush for two minutes twice a day. Especially at the price differences in the US..

I disagree with you Peter to some extent I am afraid. Whilst power/movements has some effect it is not the most important thing. Brushing time, how often you brush and the brushing technique have a bigger impact. Had there been a difference between the power of the 2 motors, I would have mentioned it, but because they are the same I didn't feel it necessary to say.

If I have two drills with a certain speed and hammering force, while the other one is half weaker, I will take the same job twice as long.
A simple example from elementary school.
The number of movements between these models are the same as per the Philips Sonicare's technical specifications.
It is potentially different for other models and for other brands, for sure.
You example of a drill is a good example, and to some extent is true. Some toothbrushes have much less powerful motors and do not clean as well. The Quip and Philips One by Sonicare toothbrush being 2 examples.
But, there is a difference when it comes to brushing your teeth. The example of the more powerful drill doesn't apply in quite the same way here. Whilst arguably there is evidence to suggest more power equals a better clean, ask any dentist and they will rate power lower down the list in priority compared to brushing time, frequency and technique.
I am not saying this to be contentious, but this is what I have learnt from research and speaking to many dental professionals.

Thanks for the questions. I could record much longer reviews. Truth is, most people don't want all the details. I have been known to talk for 25 minutes about a single brush!! 😁
There is a much more detailed full written reviews/comparisons (linked in the description) that covers some areas not covered in as much detail in the video.
As far as I know, the motors are the same, or at least they produce the same output. There might have been slight reworking to the motor for longevity.
Although I know some people have had issues with brush motors in the past, I can't say from my experience, this is a big problem affecting all brushes. The seamless button design prevents water and gunk ingression into the handle which might have some impact on previous models that don't have such.
So far the 9900 is still performing strong. I can't use it twice a day every day as I have other brushes to test.
