  • Also known as the Goa, the Tibetan Gazelle goa isrelatively small antelope. Males have long, tapering, ridged horns. Endemic to the Tibetan Plateu, the Goa has a preference for alpine meadow and mountain steppe. While their conservation status according to the IUCN Red Listed is Near Threatened, the population of the Goa is rapidly declining within its range. In fact, in India, the species is limited to a very small part of Ladakh. Though the species was once found as west as the Tso Kar Basin, it is now limited to parts of Hanle. Major threats to the species include habitat degradation near pasture lands, free ranging dogs and inbreeding. More studies on the species' ecology is required for effecient conservation.
