Christian Autor I received it as a gift and it is a BU 1886-O. According to multiple websites its worth a lot. It is a great addition no matter its value.
***** I don't have to0 much of value right now. I'm collecting a variety of different Canadian coins. I have a few pre-confederation coins from the 1800s, I have an 1888 penny, I am working on collecting all the nickels from the 1900s, I've got some silver dollars and old 50 cent pieces.
I'm 16 and just started collecting random coins like old Australian coins some old Arab states coins some florints dosent seem like alot compared to others but not alot of coin traders in England having to find all my coins
I'm 47 and have started coin roll hunting and dollar bill searching during this Covid-19 shut down. I am having so much fun and have already found some cool stuff in circulation. I love it!!!!
I collected coins as a child and decided to jump back in at age 70. Trying to put together a nice type set plus key dates of US coins. Strictly for my own enjoyment.
I'm 30, have been putting coins in the jar until a bit later on in my 20's I started seeing Lincoln wheat cents. I didn't really consider taking better care of them until this year. That's when a whole new world opened up to me. Part of me getting into the hobby is do thanks to watching American Pickers and my best friend Ashley who along with her husband are leadership entrepreneurs. Her and I met up for coffee to catch up and she instilled the idea of investing in gold and silver. This is something that I have been planning in the past and it just felt right to get started on my silver investment this year. Boy was I right to listen to my gut on that one. My current focus is as follows: 1oz American Eagle coins, Morgans (which I buy for gifts usually. Morgans make great gifts especially for friends who are not American.) Pre 1960's 90% silver 50c pieces. When I can afford it I buy other coins of interest. I'm trying to mainly focus on silver American eagles and pre 1960's 50c pieces. I have a lot that needs to be decided upon. Just recently I bought a Canadian 1oz silver maple leaf and just decided that I didn't need it after all because I didn't have any sizable capsule to put it in to keep it air tight. I decided to sell it on eBay and sold it for one dollar more than what I paid for it. I was more surprised by how fast it sold on eBay. This have me another decision to ponder on if I ever want to or need to sell any of my coins whatever the reason may be. My point is that it's never too late to start. I'm now looking into signing up for one of those bullion IRA's because the way I see it and knowing what I have learned this far about our currency the money I make today is not being backed up by solid precious metal like gold and silver. So to me it doesn't matter where you start. It's only too late when your close to your death bed.
Smart! Ya know even if it seems kinda pointless just making a buck here and there on like that silver maple oz. You're building a sellers portfolio and reputation as a vendor of silver and of coins. Keep a slow trickle of coins coming in and out and one day if you ever need to unload your collection, you won't have to try very hard.
I been collecting coins since Aug. 2, 2004. I'm 18 now so as I look back on my collection I am amazed how much it grew. Most of my collection was just from pocket change, so i didn't really had to spend a lot for coins. I'm glad that I'm one of the ones keeping this hobby alive.
I started 36 yrs ago when I found an 1887 Indian head penny in a field where the stage coach used to come through on my in law's property. now I have a nice collection for my grandchild some day.
+Cesar Lara I have a 1955 as well. I may be wrong, but I think a 1955 can be anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars but don't take my word for it. I'm personally not into selling my coins but I like looking into their prices.
It's great to share tips and spread this awesome hobby- I got started just finding coins that looked unusual and keeping them- after a while I started to realize that there are many that are worth more than face value! It's not like I'm getting rich but finding coins that are worth more than most people think is always exciting to me! Keep it going!!
I'm 10 but coin collecting is my favorite thing! The history and location amazes me! I'm weird but it's fun to collect. I started less than a year ago but have gotten some nice coins. My best being probably ms64-65 1901s Morgan dollar. But anyways, bye!
+Budder Knows Hey you, i'm 19 and I started collecting a few months ago as well. None of my friends are coin collectors and I know its weird to be collecting at a young age, but keep collecting! You are awesome and different and yourself!
I just wanted to say that I think you have great videos. You give good info and you don't go on and on about the one coin out there that will make you rich. No b.s. just good useful information for collectors of all ages. Thank you!!
Hey Blue im 38 and I've been collecting Lincoln cents for about a year.. I love it.. I'm a first generation hunter.. I've learned so much from you and others on you tube.. I search boxes of pennies and nickels .. I've found some rare gems.. Thanks to guys like you I know what to look for.. I have a stock pile and I'm yet to make a dime of'profit .. Lol.. I'm getting ready for EBay..
Omg I started seriously collecting a about a month ago. I haven't been this excited in a while and definitely considering what career path this could lead to. I believe in taking what I love seriously. From my little collection it's obvious I'm serious already and it does take time to learn the trade. I'll soon join The Numismatic Society as well. Blessings to all Collector Friends🤑🤑🤑
I've been collecting coins since I was 7 years. Ten years later and it's still good fun! I don't collect series or certain types of coins whether by date, country or quality; I really just collect any coin, from any period and from any region so my collection is very diverse and I love it!
10, started about 2 weeks ago because of a 1935 buffalo nickel I found on the ground. I collect 1900s-2000s pennies, national park/landmark quarters, and the state quarters series. its unbelievably addicting and fun. oldest is an 1870 indian head cent
Hi, Blue Ridge Silver Hound. I am a huge fan of yours. My name is Alex and I am 14 years old and have just recently picked up coin collecting over the past few months. I find your videos very helpful and informative. There is so much knowledge that is to be learned regarding the amazing hobby and business that is coin collecting. You have taught me much about the sport and I'm constantly eager to find out more. Thank you for making your videos. I'm always so excited for the next one to come out! 😀
i just started a peace dollar collection, i have to say, after collecting/investing in coins for about 10 years now, this is the first time i'm building a collection on my own, i usually just buy PCGS, NGC, or bullion, but this time i did not want all the work being done for me, i wanted to build a collection i could be proud of, i purchased some books on grading and for the first time i'm really having fun.
Hi there. I started about a month ago. I'm twelve, and I have assembled a complete *type* set *(not all dates and mint marks, but all types)* of Lincoln cents as well as an Indian Head from 1902. I will focus on collecting a complete set of Lincoln cents later (some coins, such as the 1909-S VDB, are quite expensive, and the series is a bit long). Currently, I'm collecting Roosevelt dimes and Jefferson nickels, since most can be found in my spare change (as well as my dad's coin stash, which he allows me to search through), and rarely do any of them cost a great deal of money. I'm collecting the ones from spare change first. Now, I'm also gonna get a full set of Ike and Anthony dollars, plus some 40% silver ones and some extra proofs, and it just fits under my budget of $250 (shipping and everything). All of them are about AU-50 or higher (yes, I did a LOT of research, like I always do when I'm very interested in something). Most of them are between AU-50 and MS-65. The proofs are all about PF-65 to PF-70. And you're probably asking how I get so much money for a young collector. Well, I always ask for money on holidays. And I get between $75 and $150. Also, my parents owe me about $225-$275 in allowance, since they haven't paid it for a year. At $5 a week. So, anything that I can't pay for is less debt that they owe me. Aside from that, do you think I'm off to an OK start?
there is an old car dealer saying "you make money when you buy the car not when you sell it" its absolutely true with anything you buy and sell! thx for the info
great video. I love coin collecting the collection i have is just from working for vending machine companies and them letting me keep stuff i find. very cool. Great info/
my advice for any new collector enjoy it and take your time. been collecting since i was 4 so i have 44 years in. my best coin i always wanted was the 1914 d lincoln cent took me til i was 41 to get one but its a treat
Just started last year at 25 and my coin collect not like most people here. I don't do coin roll hunting at lot(only done it three times) and I mostly collect from my local store and coin shows. I love three cent nickels, half dollars, one dollar "gold", ancient and world coins.
I am 19 and have been collecting american pennies for the past 9 years. One of the things talked about was how hard it is to collect when you have a shortage of funds. I was wondering is there some sort of "coin swap meet" for people just looking to trade? Coin shows and conventions typically get too expensive in a hurry.
@Lucas Haskins - For what it is worth, if you live in a relative urban area, see if there is a coin club somewhere in your area. You can check the American Numismatic Association to see if there is one near you. As far as funds, two suggestions I have is to recycle cans and bottles, if you live in a state that charges a fee when you purchase them. People dump this stuff on the ground, everywhere. The other is to collect and turn in metal (Copper, Aluminum, Lead, Brass etc.) to a refiner or metal recycler.
I'm a 26 year old soldier. I am excited to start collecting. Your video made me realize it's ok for me to do a bit of research before I decide on a series and get my first coin.
Great Video. I've just been selling and trading coins back and forth for three years. I've only dealt with Morgan Silver Dollars, Silver Eagles, and Peace Dollars. I am starting to expand into the other coins.
I am new at collecting but I am not a young person I am 61 and trying to collect and stack silver I enjoy learning and applying what I am learning on TH-cam from the Silver community. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I'm 11 and I've been collecting for 3 years and have 30oz of silver, a 925 sterling braclet, tons of copper and wheat cents and some old paper money. My oldest bill is a 20 dollar bill from 1934
I overpaid a few times And every time it was online My local dealer has proven to be the best price everytime (other then a bid on eBay that went very well ) Excellent video
I've always seen young in the shops and shows. Coin collecting will never die. It's the activity of nobility and the working class, and everyone in between.
The FOMO is real when it comes to trying to have patience. I've been collecting sports cards on and off since 1988 and now branching into coins. A lot of overlap in collecting principles regarding, conditions, variations, pricing, storage, grading, etc. Good advice!
I'm focusing on Lincoln Cents more then anything else, I need 5 or 6 earlier ones....I've learned along the way that you really need to know about each year.....I love this hobby! Yes....guilty of over paying for some but it is certainly preparing me for more expensive series
BlueRidgeSilverhound and also for the ones that you need. Cant imagine what I'll end up paying for a 1909s, 1914d, or a 1909sVDB.....lol....its worth it to me to have a full collection...little by little.
I've always considered being a coin collector like being a student of currency through history. From the first clay tablets through to the modern age, currency fascinates me. I always get a sense of wonder when I hold a coin from another age; Who used it? What did it buy? I collected my first coin when I was 11 in 1968. It was not a particularly valuable coin then or now,(1950 Canadian quarter in mint condition) but it ignited a life long passion. The tips you present in this video are excellent. Education is key in my view. Know what you're buying. Even if you over pay for something you want, as long as you know what your getting, you know what you're doing.
Good video been in the hobby over 22 years and you always find out something new but i started out collecting and now 22+ years best way i can say is i make a living off buying selling coins. Hope that helps i have well educated myself on collecting so i don't want to intrude on you but any questions just ask. God bless and the sky is the limit my friends.
Thanks for helping us 'new guys' first and foremost. Also great advice in saying to follow my gut. I have always hoarded interesting coins since I was a kid. Now, at 27, I can see what attracted my interest: Gresham's law. It is natural and like you said "follow your gut". I am new to the coin community and much of the knowledge that it holds, but I can only stop and praise people like yourself who seek to make my life and people like me a little bit easier. Sound advice from someone who has e
Hey. Excellent collection of dollars. I also have a dollar coin with US presidents, as states and territories. I am from Russia. In our country, a lot of interesting coins as you. Good luck to you in the channel.
I am eleven, and i already started a coin collection, a lot of foreign coins, because my friend travels quite a bit, but I only did it cuz i liked the history behind them, but now i'm starting to find it MORE as a hobby, and if there are any websites that you'd reccomend that i would be able to learn a lot on foreign coins and how much some of my coins are worth that would be GREAT!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! :D
Thanks for this. There is one very useful aspect of the Red Book and I would highly recommend that new collectors use it in addition to the information available online. In the book you can quickly scan through prices for the entire series of a coin, which allows you to easily identify the most valuable and rare coins in a set. This can be extremely useful to build your knowledge of the most sought after coins and to plan the way you build your set (often it makes sense to start a set with the more expensive/rare coins). It also includes a lot of historical information about the evolution of coins and allows new collectors to browse to find coins that they may not have known existed but that can become a new favorite coin. You can see progressions and patterns by browsing the physical book. None of this is possible through checking the price of online auctions. Of course you should always check these internet prices when determining how much you want to spend on a coin or planning what you can expect to receive from a sale. But the Red Book is an invaluable resource in my opinion. Happy collecting!
started out September of last year when I found a few common wheats in circulation. a little while ago, when I went to a coin shop, I found a really nice XF-AU 1916 wheat for 5 cents. I'm improving steadily in my preferred field of cents.
For the kids in the US that are just starting coin collecting, I started coin roll hunting in 1970. I only had a few dollars to work with. I recommend starting with pennies the way I did. The average 10 to 12-year-old doesn't have very much spare money to work with. Buy a 50 cent role of pennies and search for dates that you don't have. Outside of a few key dates the majority of your collection can be found in circulation. It is fun to find that coin you don't have,
I enjoyed the video bro. I am not a young collector, but, not a grizzled veteran coin guy either. But I am a serious collector and thanks for the tips and info.
nice point. i have a friend who collects Spanish coins and he has a list of coins that he doesn't have and searching for a particular coin and date. but there are two type of people who collects coins one is a numismatist and other one is concern only about the Silver or Gold content and don't care if they buy a particular coin over and over again for as long has it has gold and silver content and i think these are the next generation of collectors and majority of them are bullion collectors.
Hey man Thankyou so much for the tips. I have had a 7 year cold collection of coins that I was just cataloguing since I found a coin collection booklet here in Pakistan and your video gave me a good insight into this hobby. Keep it up. Thanks a ton.
What's going on?... i'm Shawn, and i'm new to collecting at 47 yrs. Young. I have all kinds of coins spread around my man cave. The information you just gave is what i needed. Thanks and God bless!...
wow! it is not just as simple when you really enter in coin collection if you expect to get money easily on coin collection i learn that there must be studying you must do to become a successful coin collector benefit comes last at least you enjoy what your doing. Thanks for your very good and inspiring presentation.good job!
I know this video was made seven years ago, but I'm really glad it was, and that it's still here. I started collecting when I was very young--around ten years old, and I'm nineteen now--and I honestly started off not knowing this was an actual thing. I merely picked up coins from all over for the stories behind them. Not necessarily vital pieces of history, too. Sometimes I'd just be amazed by a coin that has passed through someone I idolized, or a coin that apparently survived a fire, and such. Now I actually know what to look for, both in the sense of an investment for the future, as well as historical value, and this video just gives me more fuel for more.
Thanks for the tips. My you tube sound has gone down last week and have to find out how to bring it back. so I'll try to read the info from the captions.
Hello I’m in my early 50’s and I’m starting my collection mainly silver I’ve been going to my local coin shop and buying silver coins like quarters and half dollars trying to get the most i can ,
Nice video man, I remember when I started 8 years ago. I started out just collecting foreign coins I'm still not familiar with them to this day! I've been learning American and I still haven't learned all of that even! Like TheSilverlover999 said there two types of collectors. I'm both I need to make profit and also for the fun and learning experience a numismatist. I guess we all here have a feeling we need to "rescue" and learn about our history. Anyways keep em coming! -MSS
I am going to be 69 in December a Veteran with unfortunately health problems I've been watching your very helpful and straight talking videos. I want to sell what I hope are coins worth a little plus some star notes and older paper money. Not trying to get alot just wanting to help with some bills and a couple kids that could become education in artist.
I just started coin collecting about a month ago. I don't know much yet so I have started with buffalo nickels and three cent silver pieces. Going to my first coin show august 19 ;)
I started about one week ago and it was because of a 1959 100 Lira Italiana coin and my question is regarding that coin. Do you think that collecting foreign coins (especially aren't being made anymore) are worth collecting, because I haven't found anyone who wanted to buy it and it's in EF condition and I really think that it's because they don't know about coins like that so I wanted to know if it was worth it.
19 years old and addicted to coins. When I die one day, someone is going to be so so lucky.

Aside from that, do you think I'm off to an OK start?
there is an old car dealer saying "you make money when you buy the car not when you sell it" its absolutely true with anything you buy and sell! thx for the info
great video. I love coin collecting the collection i have is just from working for vending machine companies and them letting me keep stuff i find. very cool. Great info/
Nice video! thanks for taking the time to making a video.
my advice for any new collector enjoy it and take your time. been collecting since i was 4 so i have 44 years in. my best coin i always wanted was the 1914 d lincoln cent took me til i was 41 to get one but its a treat
Thanks! my sister is new and she watched this and she loved it!.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and video on TH-cam channel very helpful
Awesome stuff.... not sure why I am only just coming across this chan! Been coin collecting for over 15 years!
do I suppose to get NGC BEFORE I GO TO THE AUCTION
I am new at collecting but I am not a young person I am 61 and trying to collect and stack silver I enjoy learning and applying what I am learning on TH-cam from the Silver community. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for your information! And making me feel welcomed into this family of coin collectors!
I’m 17 and love collecting! I plan on doing it the rest of my life. It’s really fun
I'm 11 and I've been collecting for 3 years and have 30oz of silver, a 925 sterling braclet, tons of copper and wheat cents and some old paper money. My oldest bill is a 20 dollar bill from 1934
Matthew Pawlow Sweet man!! What kind of silver do you have?
I overpaid a few times
And every time it was online
My local dealer has proven to be the best price everytime (other then a bid on eBay that went very well )
Excellent video
I've always seen young in the shops and shows. Coin collecting will never die. It's the activity of nobility and the working class, and everyone in between.
The FOMO is real when it comes to trying to have patience. I've been collecting sports cards on and off since 1988 and now branching into coins. A lot of overlap in collecting principles regarding, conditions, variations, pricing, storage, grading, etc. Good advice!
THANK YOU SO MUCH BLUERIDGE
I'm focusing on Lincoln Cents more then anything else, I need 5 or 6 earlier ones....I've learned along the way that you really need to know about each year.....I love this hobby!
Yes....guilty of over paying for some but it is certainly preparing me for more expensive series
BlueRidgeSilverhound and also for the ones that you need. Cant imagine what I'll end up paying for a 1909s, 1914d, or a 1909sVDB.....lol....its worth it to me to have a full collection...little by little.
Good information! I agree with my generation needs to get more involved with coin collecting!
Very helpful so you don't lose interest quick or get stressed out because not finding what you expected. Lots of patients. Thanks
Nice I love to see the younger people getting interested in collecting!!!

I completely agree that we need more young collectors. I myself am one but don't have any friends that really care about the hobby.
Really educational thank you . I especially herd the patience patience patience!!! I need to head that more then not
Thank you! This was helpful! I’m only 13 but I have a pretty impressive collection in my opinion!
I'm new at it and haven't collected since I was 14yrs old, am 55yrs now Couch Coins got me started!
How do I know if my 1959 D circulated is worth anything. It’s in pretty good condition for a circulated coin too.
what set should i start first
For the kids in the US that are just starting coin collecting, I started coin roll hunting in 1970. It is fun to find that coin you don't have,
Is it ok to store coins in those flip wrappers u got those in?
I enjoyed the video bro. I am not a young collector, but, not a grizzled veteran coin guy either. But I am a serious collector and thanks for the tips and info.
Was going through my change weighing my pennies found a 1883 that at 2 7 grams is it copper or zinc
nice point. i have a friend who collects Spanish coins and he has a list of coins that he doesn't have and searching for a particular coin and date. but there are two type of people who collects coins one is a numismatist and other one is concern only about the Silver or Gold content and don't care if they buy a particular coin over and over again for as long has it has gold and silver content and i think these are the next generation of collectors and majority of them are bullion collectors.
Just started when I heard about a 1943 valuable copper penny. Have not found one, yet. Thank you for your videos.
Informative, intelligent, direct and definitely helpful. Thank you for this video.
Hey man Thankyou so much for the tips. I have had a 7 year cold collection of coins that I was just cataloguing since I found a coin collection booklet here in Pakistan and your video gave me a good insight into this hobby. Keep it up. Thanks a ton.
Usman Sami please let me know if you have any reexchange program I love talk to you
Best advice I heard from old timers to rookies is education is your best friend in coins and bullion buying

Thanks for your very good and inspiring presentation.good job!
Im 9 and I love coin colleting
Welcome to my channel mate then/
I know this video was made seven years ago, but I'm really glad it was, and that it's still here.
Love your advice,New to hobby 2 months and see most of your video
Jamestown Stamp Company in NY, Mystic Stamp company are a couple places I've gotten stamps from.
Thank you Blue Ridge for educated us about coins. 👍👍
Where is this show??
I live in NH as well. I've never been to a coin show but I have really wanted to for quite a while now.
Great advice as usual. Best advice I can give dealer says now or never on price. We'll never....
I am 17 and I've been collecting for about a year. I am pretty well into a Lincoln cent collection and just recently got into Mercury Dimes.
Thanks for the tips. My you tube sound has gone down last week and have to find out how to bring it back. so I'll try to read the info from the captions.
Hello I’m in my early 50’s and I’m starting my collection mainly silver I’ve been going to my local coin shop and buying silver coins like quarters and half dollars trying to get the most i can ,
Im new at this i have a 1969s and a 1943p how do i get it grade where do i sent it to .
I have inherited a bunch of Silver coins as well as Error Coins..? How do I get some of them appraised.

Need help. I do have pennies like 1959 1960. What my next steps what do I where do I go next
Thank you so much! I'm excited to start my own collection...
Great video! Good getting this info out there 👍
