@Lt. Surok I was always happy with my iPhone 7 and the speed it ran at but the 3a makes it look slow. I changed to pixel and Android simply because I was always 2-3 yrs behind the latest phone with Apple thanks to the prices they charge and its getting more expensive to get in at the low end with the xr. The 3a is wonderful and I kinda feel stupid for not going Android earlier.

@@victuringan1429 - However, how much of what is sacrificed is objectively necessary? In fact, I'm now having to ask this from the POV of a Pixel owner - my Pixel 3a is to my right. importing the data from the S7 Snapdragon (which the 3a replaces) was fast, fast, fast (bigger surprise - I used the S7's cable to handle the transfer chores). The fingerprint sensor (a feature I was used to having from the S7) is faster than that of the S7. Like the S7, you can triple-down on security (pattern, fingerprint, and PIN). No - no wireless charging - however, if wireless charging had been truly a must have, why didn't I pull THAT trigger with the S7 (which supports it)? The sacrifices are there - however, are they objective or subjective?

After so many years of chasing the latest and shiniest phones, Pixel 3a makes me feel like home

    • @PGHammer21A
      @PGHammer21A 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@Onix Navarro -This is what I have been saying - and the hard data from today matches up. It's a solid midrange utility-infielder of a phone - even without the camera. It's not a flagship, nor is it meant to compete with them. As much as most reviewers talk about the phone's camera, it didn't factor in why I pulled the trigger, for the common-sense reason that I seldom take pictures with my phone's camera. (With the S7 I left, I took maybe fifteen pictures TOTAL over my year with it. Due to the lack of a USB-C to USB cable for connecting to a PC, there are certain things I haven't done yet (such as root or install TWRP) - no such cable is included in the box. The adapter included is USB -female to USB-C - no use for connecting to a typical PC. Had a USB-male to USB-C adapter been included, it would have solved this issue; still, it's a quibble - and it's the ONLY quibble I have with the 3a so far. Otherwise, it does what utility-infielder phones are supposed to do - perform without issues. Amusingly, it does so with either Pie or beta 4 of Q (which I updated to via OTA). So far, I have - literally - no reason to dismiss Q; therefore, until I find one, beta 4 of Q is staying on the 3a.

@@Tylshel Agreed there - and I (literally) just came aboard #teampixel today. If anything, this puppy is scarier from a user's POV than I expected. I'm not a big camera-on-phone user, and never have been - therefore, the camera is basically icing. Another thing I am decidedly new to is Android Pie; the S7 Snapdragon had no shot at seeing Pie, and (naturally) will not see Q. I'm now actually running Pie - and will certainly see Q (barring flubs, I'll actually be running the current beta of Q some time today) - talk about going from behind-the-curve to bleeding-edge in 24 hours or less. It gets wackier - due to the nature of Project Treble, you can run a beta of Q while having Pie in reserve - it's bog-standard for Pixels. Finally, this is not the "shackled-to-Verizon-only Pixel" of yore - as long as your carrier supports nano-SIM or e-SIM (which every US carrier supports either or both), you can run a Pixel. It's "anybody's Pixel"; in fact, at this price, it's "everybody's Pixel".

@@frenchfries8745 I switched from a Galaxy Note 5 to OG Pixel XL about 9 months ago, and overall am much happier.
The Note 5's display is a little bigger and brighter, it charges faster, and occasionally I miss the S-pen, but other than those points, no complaints or regrets.
Pixel is snappier in performance, simpler to use (far less Settings menus and sub-menus, lol), battery life is def consistently better, and the camera quality blows the Samsung away, IMO (I've been shooting 35mm on & off for nearly 40 years, so that's not the opinion of an impressionable photo newb).
Oh and let's not forget timely OS updates...Pixel has Samsung beat by a country mile in that Dept also. And ofc Pixels are rootable, so there's potential for even greater longevity.
TL;DR: I can almost guarantee you'll like any Pixel coming from a Samsung if you're open-minded. Pxl 3a/3aXL seem like terrific options that bring the Google goodness more affordably.

I bought the pixel 3a XL two weeks ago and I LOVE it. I "upgraded" from a Galaxy 6s which I had 3 1/2 years. I had wanted to go "budget" this time as an "experiment" and I was all set on the Motorola G7 , when suddenly the budget Pixel 3a phones were released. I didn't even know that they were coming out, so the timing was perfect. I am glad I went with the XL model, but if your hands are small or you prefer a smaller phone, then the larger phone will not be for you. I LOVE it though. The camera takes amazing pics... the battery lasts a long time... the HD display is great.. speakers are good, the Android 9 operating system runs smoothly.. . heck, I even love the hard plastic build. NO REGRETS!! Best of all, I got the phone at Best Buy and since I was doing an upgrade with Sprint I got a $100 reduction in the price. Also Google was running a promotion and I was supposed to get a $100 gift card from Best Buy as well, but they ended up giving me a $100 credit instead. So the 3a XL ended up costing me only $279 plus tax! #FTW

One of my favorite things about the 3A: the feel in the hand. It is light, compact, and the back feels premium even though it is poly-carbonate. Curved screens were too easy to do accidental touches, and the 7 Pro was MUCH heavier and felt like it could break with the slightest 2 foot drop. I used the LG Nexus 5 for almost 6 years, before it finally died. Rooted it and was using Lineage to keep it running. I loved that phone. Bought it direct from the Google Online store.
I’ve used multiple devices for the last 8 months, waiting for the right phone to come out, and almost bought the iPhone XR, because I have a 2013 macbookAir, and both the iPadAir, and iPadAir 3. I hate iOS on the phone, but on the tablet, and macOS on the laptop, it was almost a no brained.
But, I waited. I bought within the release week, from the Google Online Store (Canada), Clearly White, Pixel 3a for $549 plus taxes, with store credit of $150 to come in six weeks for accessories. I have 14 days still wait, but this is THE PHONE I was waiting for. This is the phone the Pixel 1 should have been.
The Nexus line was about value. Pixel were not value, but rather excessively priced overkill that no one can afford without winning the lottery
The 3a is a return to value for money, and user experience. This is what the masses want, an easy to use, affordable, and supported device. This is my new 6 year phone.

Nice review but one major selling point on the 3a which you neglected to mention here (and one that offsets the lack of wireless charging) is that it does have fast charging! That is a very important feature in any midrange or non-flagship phone which does not support wireless charging! My wife just 'upgraded' to the Pixel 3a and loves it! She doesn't care about the many 'features' so many expensive phones include which very few consumers utiluze.....her needs are a great camera, good display, good battery life, headphone jack, and enough RAM and storage capabilities, all which the Pixel 3a has! I would highly recommend the 3a or 3a xl for anyone who wants an extremely good phone for under $500.00!

Traded in my Refurb iPhone SE 64gb (with bad audio jack and light leak from flash to camera), and got the quoted trade in credit to my card of $251, so this was a huge upgrade and a great deal for me. Had my LG-M153 Android for a good 4+ years so far, ran into little bugs here and there squashing them with little workarounds while just ignoring them altogether. Eventually it caught up to me due to the extended use as well as weather conditions. Let's just say I really needed to stop leaving my phone in the car with this heat because now it"s really done some damage, overheating, battery life decreases by the minutes, can't even send a text without the entire phone trying to keep up with my fingers usually takes 4-5 seconds to process everything I've typed out. I'm not all for buying a new phone every year, don't really think I need all the latest and greatest models, just straight down to the bare bone essentials and it'll serve me well. I'm sure I'll be getting my hands on this 3a within the next payday or so. Definitely will be looking forward to it. Great video btw!

I was using a S9+ and picked up the 3a, and I've made it my daily driver now! Now there are a few things I miss like the following, Dolby Atmos, 1440p, wireless charging, and Iris scanner. That said I'm perfectly fine with the comprise for the price and honestly I'll doubt I would ever buy a Samsung phone at launch since they drop in price within a few months. The camera, battery life, and performance all manage to do what I need, and the phone still feels snappy and does what I want. Hopefully Google keeps this line alive with upgrades in the future for $500-600 as they have a major winner here, or lowers prices on the flagship Pixels

  • @squallxvi

I am happy with my purchase. Just upgraded from a Galaxy S6 to a 3a XL. The battery life is AMAZING compared to the S6. I worked a 7 hour shift (5pm-12am) and my battery only lost about 7% life (originally 90% to 82%) and that was with Always On display active, Android Well-Being on, and brightness set to 100%. Right now, it's about 59% at 5:21 Central without a charge. I'm almost overwhelmed by it because I'm so used to charging phones every 4-6 hours.
It being made from plastic is not even noticeable with a case on (This phone really needs a case. It's not rated for water and dust resistance). Slap a Spigen Tough Armor case on, and you can't tell it's a plastic phone. I'll feel a lot better with dropping a $475 phone than a $750-$1100 phone when it happens.

Been on my 3a XL for a few weeks now and agree with the review, it's a fantastic phone for the price. What a difference having the best point & click camera makes at any price, no more disappointment & embarrassment when taking shots in any condition.
Want to emphasize a couple of points. The battery life is the best I've had in a phone since Xperia Z3, it WILL last over a day (even 2 with moderate use). It just sips power, regularly getting 8 hours SoT. And the headphone jack is a must for me, can go both wired & wireless with no issues (like remembering adaptors or to charge a headphone).
If Google keep making these series of phones, my flagship days are done. Can spend the extra cash elsewhere.

I'm talking about the edge screen, slow mo, wireless charging, and the best thing about the Pixel over it; NO TMobile or Samsung apps taking up space! Perfect size, most people have a case, and this is perfect for daily use without spending another 500 plus for stuff that you don't need or use.

I own a iPhone 6 right now, I have always owned IOS devices for 5 years. After some research, I’ve realised how badly Apple have been conning their customers. Therefore, I thought it was time for an upgrade. So, do I switch from iPhone 6 to the Samsung s9 plus, one plus 7 pro, or the pixel 3a?
I do like a bezel less display, minimalistic design, and good speakers, and good cameras.

As long as you don’t play heavy games, Pixel 3a and 3a XL is such a solid choice since in where I live, they prioritize camera.

@@ZachAnderson has it been proven to be less durable? It seems like gg has the branding to command a high price but not much to substantiate any tangible differences. But I could be talking out of my ass, I really don't know. It just seems Jerry's video proved it's just as good

Ok, the 3a doesn't feel cheap. It feels similar, however not the same as the regular 3. The 3 feels distinctly glass and the 3a feels distinctly plastic. But not cheap.

Google gave a $250 credit for trading in an iPhone. I knew someone who dropped a SE in a toilet and it worked but would not make calls. All it had to do was be in good condition without a cracked screen and was factory reset. People were buying refurbished iPhones from Walmart and trading them in. I am just waiting for my $100 Google store credit to be sent now

The most curious thing about this phone, or rather the reviews of this phone, is that none of the reviews have been able to convincingly show why it's being so hyped.
While most mid-range or similarly priced phones get bashed or belittled for not being able to compete with higher-end phones at all, this phone is given a pass. Most phones(especially) Chinese ones get praised in some instances, but they never get the sort of recommendation as the Pixel 3A does.
Why's that? What is so special? Is it really the camera and software? Has the camera become so important in a smartphone users life that they would need the absolute best to be satisfied while other specs don't matter that much?

    • @kerravon7530

Number one thing budget phones get bashed on is the camera. This phone well and truly fixes that. 95% of users don't know or care about CPU, RAM & benchmarks as long as the phone runs well enough. Which this does

If you want raw speed get a OnePlus. If you instead don't care about raw speed but want among the very best cameras, you can't beat this camera even on many flagship phones. And then add immediate security updates and OS updates for 3 years. Also FP reader on back is less finicky than Samsung's. And of course a headphone jack and clean unbloated Android OS.

Basically, how does the pic storage work on this?! Is it still unlimted freebuploads? Thanks.

    • @squallxvi
      @squallxvi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Only free unlimited uploads for image set to high compressed quality. So compressed 16 megapixel photos. If pictures are of higher resolution then they'll be resized. Can still upload original resolution photos, but they will use up storage. Same way works with video, but 1080p is the highest limit.
Only the original Pixel 3 get the unlimited original resolution upload.

I've liked Android Police for a while, and I completely agree about this review. It does all the fundamental things right and skips the rest. Though, I'm going to guess the reason this phone might truly succeed in the USA is carrier presence. Very happy with my 3a XL so far.
