Beautiful song from a truly amazing album. Used to play this and Bell Bottom Blues quietly in our nursery when my daughter was an infant. Not only did she grow up with a love of music, she grew up with a free spirit and soul. It’s one of those little moments you don’t forget
Wow! Bobby Whitlock just commented here and I get to follow. Wow! Long life and good health to you Mr Whitlock. With that want to say as faithful a cover as I have ever heard. Thank you.
Some people say the Layla album is Duane's one and not Clapton. This is completely untrue, the three first songs isbthe perfect example. But as mentioned by Bobby W himself, this is the artwork of a great band and not of individual talents.
One of the most underrated tracks off what is an underrated album. And yeah, you read that right. The hits off the Layla record are great, but there is literally not one track off that record that is bad, and the record does not get enough praise. The entire thing front to back is great. Duane Allman’s playing is truly the cherry on top (even though he didn’t play on the first three tracks).
mirraco323, Thanks for the words and the visit! Certainly the Layla album is in the upper half of my top 10 desert island discs. I think it was about my 3rd or 4th Clapton vinyl I bought when I was first getting into EC. I think I was 11 or 12 years old around '75 or '76. I distinctly remember, I recorded it to a cassette (a TDK SA 90) and listened to it almost non-stop, on repeat, when I rode with my Dad, driving from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale, FL and back, spring break '76. My Dad listened to CB radio or news radio. I listened to Layla on a mono earbud over and over! Then later I worked on figuring out the guitar work ; )
Hi John Lutwyche! Thanks for the visit and the kudos! FYI: If you scroll down, Bobby Whitlock visited and left a sweet comment. Stay tuned for more to come!
Really magical cover. Even the little things like the tambourine are on point. Like you say there’s no live version or even a music video for the song, so this is the version I put on now when I’m streaming music to my tv.
That was a perfect rendition. I always loved this song but always felt the album was mixed poorly and the vocals needed cleaning up. Love how you mixed both guitar parts and the bass was also awesome. I am going to keep this version. thanks
I've listened to this song literally THOUSANDS of times. There's a point in the original (at 2:41, at 3:22 in your video) where Eric hits a note in the second solo break that has sent a chill down my spine EVERY time I have EVER heard this song. Including your cover. You nailed EVERY bit of the song. The quack of the different Strat parts, the pinched harmonics, the flat no-echo drums, the organ in the background. VERY impressive.
Not easily impressed but I'm impressed.... don't mean to rip off earlier commenters remarks but don't know what else to say but you captured every nuance of that one. Incredible work. Thank you for posting it.
Great job . I enjoyed this. I just Love Clapton's guitar playing, and you seem to have nailed it Very Well done. E.C. my Hero on guitar as well, for many, many years, Loved Derick and the Dominos my favorite Clapton guitar sound old = 50's Strat into a showman sound very clean and clear, or a 50's Fender champ on what about 3 1/2 or 4. Very clean . Again Great Job, Glad Bobby Whitlock got to hear this and then let you know if they ever did it live or not. and they never did do the song Live...and even better yet bobby Whitlock liked it and complimented you on it....He loved it too... VERY Cool Indeed.. M.G. in Phoenix, Az..
Absolutely fantastic, man! You nailed the tone, touch, and every nuance of every riff, lick, and lead on that song! Thank you for sharing this with all of us...
where are you man? i still coming back to this video, since i love this song so much, while you could bring the best out of it! wish you are having good days out there...
Wow! So glad I found this. Was just reading Bobby Whitlock's autobiography. He likely played this allot in those little England gigs he and Eric did before recording the Album. They were working with Harrison on All Things Must Pass (the Domino's crew - Duane) and doing little local gigs. This was one of the first song they co wrote together and he states the Album in generally chronological order from the time it was written. Anyway, I'm hoping I get my friends to play this, and this should convince them. So great! AND Thank YOU!!
Wow. Nailed it. One of my favorites from an album that was choked full of incredible tunes. If Eric was the heart of this album Bobby Whitlock surely was the soul. Great cover 😎🎸🎸🎸
Incredible cover of a very underrated song! One of my favorites from the album. You guys are amazing! Each instrument sounds spot on and your vocals sound amazing!
Dear Fran. Congratulations. I'm Xavier Soranells and we have the only trbute band in Spain! It really moved me the way you performed this song. Keep on keeping on!!
WOW! This is without any doubt an amazing cover! Not only is note for note exactly, but your enthusiasm and hard work on the song is visible here. What can I say? May God bless you man. Incredible.
Just so good. I’m touchy about covers, and almost didn’t press play. It’s one of those songs that we played (listened to,) so much that it’s engraved on our hearts. You did it! So beautiful. Thank you! And you got a note from BW! So good.

Love that song. Most run to Bell bottom blues but this song, sad lyrics but makes me happy.

This is completely untrue, the three first songs isbthe perfect example. But as mentioned by Bobby W himself, this is the artwork of a great band and not of individual talents.
Wow, you really nailed that plaintive, aching sound of those vocal harmonies. Totally makes this song the classic that it is, IMO.
