In Malaysia you get Maldives like turquoise seas and white sands without the over tourism due to better organization of tourist areas.

Sipadan island in Sabah is in the top 10 diving sites in the world.
Kapalai is near sipadan. Easily top 10 in this world for diving. Mabul and layang-layang is good too for diving.

So amazing you went to Pom Pom Island. How much the island has changed! We went there end of 2010. Just some beach bungalows at that time - but also a bit upscale. No big restaurant, no pool. But a huge turtle sanctuary and the same amazing pier with flowers. Every day we observed turtles and lion fishes right from the pier. Pom Pom ist just amazing!

I love beautiful beaches, great scenery and pristine color of water. Maldives is my childhood dream to visit, a photographer friend's father got a personal picture there had work for sometime. Malaysia's Maldive is cool too almost same as Philippines with that sandbar too.

Are you guys planning to climb Mt. Kinabalu? One of the most amazing things I’ve ever done…about 25 years ago. Make sure to take a couple days to acclimate at the base camp if you decide to do it!

Thanks for capturing the unspoiled beauty of this place .The water was so clear and all the fishes .I'm glad you didn't get stung by a sting ray, jelly fish, or poison fish. I think the resort/hotel fee is reasonable,3 meals, transportation to island ,and daily boat trip.

Our beaches are not crowded because malaysians dislike sitting under the sun unlike westerners. Also most tourists only knows thailand and philippines as we seldom promote it. Tourism is not our main revenue earner. It is E&E and O&G that make us prosperous.

Beautiful beach
Gotta say I'm a bit surprised that our hosts went all the way to Borneo, with flights to Kota kinabalu and tawau, overland transportation from tawau to semporna, and a boat ride to sipidan just to go snorkeling. It's like bringing a sandwich to a smorgasbord. Nothing wrong with that, I've done it too, but sipidan is a dive paradise. So, if you plan on going, get PADI certified; I sure wish I had. You don't see huge schools of tuna, barracuda, swordfish, assorted sharks, giant turtles while snorkeling (turtles yes, if you're lucky), but you certainly will if you're diving. So, get PADI certified and go get your mind blown. Sipidan is the world's premier dive site.

Drone flying is not allowed as bandits from philippines can attack our resorts. Happened many many times in the past, kidnapping and ransom and murder by those bandits. The military is strict to enforce curfews and drone flying.
Beautiful place! For avoiding rays, shuffle through the sand upon entry into the water.They hang out under the sand but will be alerted when u shuffle and move out of their way.Its stepping on the very sharp,spiked tail poking out of the sand that is the problem.Ouch! VV painful.

Beautiful island. Like the see through kayak and the snorkeling. Good thing you're both excellent swimmers. I love to snorkel but need the fins on... 😀 The flowers with different colours are Bougainvillea, which I simply love.

Reefs look sooo healthy.So much coral and plant life and amazing number of fish.Much healthier than Caribbean,Hawaii, US, most other places these days.
You need to control the number of visitors to keep it that way. Some top spots like Sipadan have quotas to prevent over tourism.

Apparently if you shuffle your feet while you walk in the water, sting rays buried in the sand and other tunneling creatures that can move will sense the vibrations and move out of your way. It is said that is a good way to avoid accidentally stepping on a buried sting ray and getting stung.
