You two are such a joy and lift to the bummer day or moment! Now, I know what the Spanish have known to lift one into a need of simple pleasure - that Luscious dunking of Churro or Purro in a very generous cup of chocolate! I never knew! Yum and thank you to this decadently, delightful tour of more cuisine of Spain. Such a fun outing of the selected stops for Churro & Purro of Madrid. What a pleasure you bring. Thank you again, from Missouri.

Churros are also a good post-party and hangover remedy, since churrerias open so early in the morning I've always gotten them after partying all night and waiting for the public transport to open.
I think San Gines is so famous because of that (on New Year's Eve it is allways full!).

  • @welshtoro3256

Las Farolas for me. San Gines is always packed with tourists and I can't be bothered waiting. My wife always sprinkles the packets of sugar over her churros, then dips the churro in the sugar before dipping in the chocolate and I've copied that.

I recall doing both historic (aka tourist) locations and I was not very impressed. Back in the day, they didn’t need to try to do good business because the tourists were always there. This may be insightful as some of the best meals and experiences I have had were outside of these tourist areas.
It was so good to see you both, and I am glad you are doing well.

That's true and believe me, we as locals are the first ones to dislike tourist traps because they make our traditional dishes look bad. You could come to Spain and think that paella is that horrible pre-cooked, heated in a microwave thing they'll serve you in the main square and it's not. They also make us spaniards look like the greedy owners of those places and we are definitely not. So I hope that the internet, videos like this one and google reviews will help tourists to find the real places and avoid the scams.

James/Yoly, our family of 5 are on holiday in Madrid for 6 days and have been watching your videos for the past few months as research. They have been invaluable. Today we visited Los Farolas near Quintana and had amazing churros/purros and hot chocolate. We tried San Gines earlier this week and think Farolas are better! Hi James and Yoli!...We finally made it to Madrid from Montreal to visit this beautiful city and while here, we have had the chance to taste test churros that you had suggested in your video. Wow! Thanks for your suggestion. We found the churros at Churreria las Farolas near the Stn Alfonso X111 on Calle San Nazaria really delicious and all that you had claimed they would be. They were not oily and left no aftertaste; as well the chocolate was not too sweet and quite silky and pudding-y. Yum! from Madrid, Guillermo and Mary. PS: Say hello to Lucia for us!

When I'm in Spain I always have one churro at breakfast next to my egg and bread ( and cheese and salami). The hotel I always go to make very yummy ones, but I'll be honest, I never dip in in either chocolat or coffee. A few weeks ago I was in Scheveningen the Netherlands, and I got churros and hot chocolatemilk. I dipped it in there and that was VERY nice

In Turkish we say Fried Dough Food ( Tulumba Tatlısı) instead of Churros and the taste is similar for those 2 desserts. But we never place tulumba tatlısı into chocolate. Mainly churros in Turkey is sold as street dessert food before entering to basketball or football matches stadium, alongside with meatball vendors and small intestine street food sellers. We turkish citizens adore baklava with pistachios, kadayif pistachios, havucburnu with pistachio.

I know that you've already talked about the bitter Spanish coffee experience (torrefacto) but I, as a coffee lover, would like to know what are the best cafes in Madrid where there is very good to excellent coffee ☕️. Any place that combines that with good bakeries and a nice decor would be wonderful.

The more you travel, the more you see that there are so many wonderful things in the world. It can be difficult to settle for something great when you can see that there could always be something better just round the next corner. Travel can sometimes simply be about a quest for perfection.

Haha that brought to mind that when we were in Seville last, we were served hotel breakfast with churros in the Chinese congee station! Spanish thought churros are the same as Chinese Yaotiao. Actually Yaotiao is savoury and not sweet (although there is another version is sweet called ox tongue pastry) but I thought that was so very sweet and considerate of them. 😂

Well, I was on vacation in Portugal last month and decided to take a one-nighter hop over to Madrid. Definitely had the churros. First one at Churreria 1902 Chocolateria, second at Valor. I really enjoyed the one at 1902 - hardly oily, it was crunchy and the flavor was fresh. For Valor, the churro was a little oily but it was fresh since I was there when they opened. The chocolate was good but not like 1902. I could probably drink the entire cup of the 1902 chocolate sauce. The Valor one, not as much. Thanks for the recommendations. I will have to spend a lot more time in Madrid when I return.

I miss this kind of light breakfast! This video was extra funny for me because porras is a dirty word here in Brazil lol. Anyway, good job!

Thats interesting, here in bakersfield CA we eat churros as a snack, breakfast or even dessert. Its a all day thing here. Chocolate on churros is not that common but caramel is popular or even condensed sweet milk. We roll churros in a cinnamon sugar. I, as a churrerio, roll my churros in crushed cookies or cereals and get some amazing flavors. If you are eved in Bakersfield CA come look us up and try our churros.

I was addicted to Valor while my holidays in Barcelona 🤤I have to try Chocolat, I like dark strong chocolate so the smoky flavour sounds intresting.

I believe you will travel to Spain before the Americans. I have family in Tenerife, and can't wait to return. Looking forward to Andalusia area again, but that might have to wait until 2022. I was there late 2019.

I believe it's as much about the chocolate as it is the churro.

Here in southern California I used to have them as a kid every winter season, they are sold at a minimum quantity of 6, the usual was a dozen and when ordered sometimes they give you extras :) we certainly did not have "Porras" but depending on the cook and establishment they would come out thinner or thicker with some soft dough in the center, I had never heard of eating them with such thick chocolate, they were usually pre sprinkled with sugar but you could ask them not to of course. However, more research is required by an in-person inspection to decide between churros and Porras lol. Great video!

Sí, los churros Mexicanos sirven con azúcar y canela. The ones from San Diego, anyway.
