Approximately 25% of our beautiful Bradford Pear broke off and fell on my 3-month old car and caused several thousand dollars in damages. It was GONE the next day. When we called, the tree guy asked if it was a Bradford Pear. It was 18 years old and showed no signs of weakness until part of it broke off....and it wasn't even windy that day!

Something that grows & spreads too fast, overtaking the landscape, is invasive by definition; this applies to _anything_ in life. I've heard too many negative things about this tree type.

We live across the street from the fairgrounds where some genius planted two Bradfords.
Now, our front field has them sprouting up everywhere. I cut down most, but have learned that they also can be grafted to a eating pear type as well. We have Red Bartlett, Kiefer and Oriental pears now making more than we can eat.

Paid to grow them (20-30yrs ago) now pay them to eradicate them. Pay them to replace them with other species. Paid paid paid

You'll see the same strategy with the windmills/wind farms.

Bradford, cleveland, callery, chanticleer, call them what you want, all are nasty smelling invasives. I'm constantly pulling these invasive seedlings up in my yard, even though the closest tree is probably 200 feet away.

Bradford Pears are native to China and Vietnam but in 1964 The US got these seeds that were considered sterile at the time

I'm still buying some. I love them. They're beautiful in the spring, a perfect shade tree, and the 25 year old ones in my current yard beg to differ with the age. Keep them trim, keep them neat. Care, respect, and love them and they'll do the same for you.

Ok here is the deal. The trees that end up growing as a result of Bradford pear pollination are not Bradford Pear trees. They are callery pear trees that have thorns on them. Bradford pear trees are either grafted, grown from cutting or air layered. They are being slowly cut down in my city because they are just falling to pieces and are a hazard!

How about the tree experts who initially recommended this tree as an excellent landscape tree? I guess those were the dumb experts, as opposed to the smart experts who are condemning the same species.

Most tree services don't plant trees for new developments. So most of the time no, not the same people.
