Ozone GEO 6 - Flying with Mitch G

Mitch has put in a huge effort to groom a launch on his ridge; tough work because of the limestone and the ocotillo. But its paying off! Not only is it fun with a short hike and the LZ is next to the car, there is serious XC potential here.
The prevailing wind in El Paso is SW to WSW, so the best direction for XC would be to head east. The problem: if you try to head east from the Franklin Mountains, there is the huge ELP Class C airspace blocking the route. But, from Mitch's ridge, there is zero airspace for over 200 miles to the east. Just catch a few thermals, bridge to the Hueco Mountains, and from there you will be over beautiful high plains flatland, with plenty of highways and dirt roads for retrieval.

Nice little site which shouldn’t take much effort to improve the launch on. What’s the deal with landowners and permission over there? I’d be interested in how you get back to your car after an XC though, lift sharing or would a CAB drive out on that dirt road? I’m missing my flying with our current UK lockdown, and still haven’t flown my new harness which is a kicker. Here’s hoping we can get back in the air soon, but it’s great to see that you guys can get some in and share 😀
