Love this. I obsess on things no one cares about and usually run out of time. One time when I was hurrying getting ready for guests my husband asked if I really thought guests were going to look under the sofa. The vision of great Aunt Mary on her knees peering under the sofa brought me back to reality 🤦🏼
Is there anyone else who's been watching Dana for a long time (or binging a lot of her older videos) and is kind of proud of how clean her house is in this video? It was already ready for guests.
Love it! Basically, start at your front door… Get as far in as you can… And then forget about the rest! The first guest who complains about the cleanliness of your house is invited to help themselves to the dust rag and to the vacuum cleaner!
That „the first guest..“ did I learned from my granny when I had a newborn and and three years old… I was so worried about how my house may look, as all my relatives, family and friends wanted to see our new baby girl. She shaked her head as said „sweetie, if there is one single person, that moaned about your house, show them the vacuum and the mop and let them do the work“ 😅 I miss her really so much 🥀
"This is math, y'all!" You convinced me with the first lessons about "dishes math" and now here's math for the whole house! You may not get a Nobel Prize, but you have my eternal gratitude 👍🏆💖
Thanks for including the “Get yourself ready” section. Nothing like having the doorbell ring still looking a “hot mess” from cleaning - but the house looks great! 😂
Oh my goodness! The last sentence of this video is true in my home. The boys all disappeared to one of the 3 toilets. Magic. I thought I was the only one who “deals” with this. 😅
I have a daughter that does the same thing. Any time they are asked to do a simple chore they tell me they absolutely need to use the bathroom right now before they can start. Even if that something can be done on the way to the bathroom, nope got to go there first, then come back and pick up the thing and take it where it's supposed to be.
I think I’ll be saving this one to watch/do when I’m feeling overwhelmed, regardless of whether guests are coming or not. Seems like this will be a great way to break through the feeling of needing to spend days “catching up”.
Great idea for a video! You can use the principles for any "emergency" clean - house viewings, etc; or just when you want to get a messy house clean in a hurry for the family coming home. I know it's naughty, but I also take a large box around with me to collect up clutter and then stash it away in the spare room.
I love watching your dog in the background, and the reminder to spend 10 minutes getting yourself put together and remember what the goal is, to enjoy having people over. The 10 minute leeway at the end seems like a really good plan too.
Love this Dana! I purchased your 14 Days to Opening your Front door to guest last year. I decided to reprinted yesterday. Last year I was not able to finish three of the rooms that I really wanted to accomplish before guest arrived for Thanksgiving Lunch. Oh my goodness, how much has changed in just one year. I owe this all to you, Cas and Dawn. I started today and have already completed Day 1-4. I’m thrilled! I actually might be able to get through my entire house by Day 14.😊
'Put stuff in a box and put it in the garage if you have to' reminds me of when we did a blind panic clean when hubby's parents were coming. Sheets went missing, I ended up having to buy more. They turned up 6 months later in a seldom used cupboard where hubby forgot he stashed them despite multiple interrogations. I was not happy.
When someone announces they are on thier way over I assign the kids tasks one do dishes one vacuums one does bathroom I do everything else we get it done quickly because my house stays neat for the most part. I love your idea thank you
The first thing I do is put toilet bowl cleaner in all the toilets in my house - this does 2 things, it starts cleaning while I’m cleaning & straightening up, and it makes the room and nearby rooms smell nice and clean.
Thanks for this, Dana. I usually focus on areas where guests will be, however I am not so organized with the time. This plan makes it so easy to keep track and not be running between rooms like a hot mess that usually leaves me a HOT MESS! lol
OMG this reminds me of the time we had friends over to watch a football game. My house was in 100% tip top shape! Until someone was using the main bathroom and my friend also needed to go. My husband told her to go to the one in our bedroom! You know, the room with the door shut and the bathroom that was next on the list to be completely gutted! It was so bad! I never let anyone in there! When I found out, I was so embarrassed! Fast forward to today….the bathroom has been completely remodeled and now I’m proud to show off our hard work!
Love this Dana, its so usefull when your feeling overwhelmed, and you can quickly get it all ok done in this 60 minutes - not perfect but waaayyyy better 🥰
I don't have the issues you normally address, but I have learned so much from you. This time, don't wait until the last minute to get yourself presentable for company. Always enjoy your content. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Dana - Great advice and really doable. I know that my biggest problem is focus, I get sidelined into this or that and loose focus. The 10 minute segments will help keep me on focus and point. Thanks for sharing and continued success. Love PegEgg
I needed this today. Yesterday, I hit "overwhelmed" with the decluttering and had to pause. This morning this video helped motivate me to keep going!! Thank you!!
It may just be me, but I would spend the last ten minutes doing a refreshment check - ice in the ice bucket, matching glasses on a tray, snacks already in bowls, etc, 'cause I always feed my guests. And I agree - if you forget that crucial ten minutes for yourself, and then hate how you look and feel. Not fun!
Very helpful, thank you. Made me think of what & where I'd start & maybe do it now... :) Love your German Shepherd, relaxing. while the humans are stressing out. :) Terrific pets. :)
The 14day plan worked like a dream for me in getting ready for an adult granddaughter who was going to be spending about a month or more with us over the summer. She notices everything and is not shy about voicing her opinions. The ONLY thing she mentioned, and that I missed taking care of was the 1and only canned light in the kitchen, that I rarely turn on. “Grandma, you have spider webs in your light”. 🤣🕸🕷🤣. So, I’m excited to try the 1hour cleaning for guests. It may turn into me being the guest on the regular!!😉
I love this so much! With this, plus your 14 days to opening your home to guests, I think I can do this! My family is SICK right now with cold/flu/covid like symptoms but we ALWAYS host my husband's whole family for Thanksgiving. So... the show must go on! Better sick now than later!!! 😬
Thank you for your calm encouragement! Yes!! Don't forget to freshen your self!! Lol!! I have been there looking like a mop after the mad rush !! Lol!!
Great idea! I’ve recently gotten over my anxiety about cleaning as I’ve been deep cleaning each room to sell the house. While they each take 4-5 days (with taking breaks) it’s made doing one job in a room seem like no biggie. It’s just a longer version of the take it there now rule. To get in the habit of doing that I did that for 2.5 days straight and I haven’t looked back. Thank you Dana for getting me on track in so many ways!
Super Love this! My MIL comes tomorrow and although there are Big projects awaiting me - This gives me a Reasonable focus for my energy level today. 🎉 😂
Thank you Dana! This is awesome and efficient!!! And I love your puppy snoozing in the background! Sweet baby🐾 Going to go download this list! And the 14. Thank you!!!
Good list, I like step 5, it prepares your mind as well. If I were there I would pull your coffee table closer to the couch, they are companion pieces so they should relate, unless your guests have really long arms.
The notes at the end are fabulous! It should also say “Listened to by a lady who just had candy and Christmas cookies for breakfast in order to be in the frame of mind to clean…”
just used this for the visit of housekeeper checking on our heating. he will be looking into dusty crooks and crannies (that i reserved special 10 mins for) but the home looks very presentable. funny though, as a minimalist, jsut before 1 hour preparation i thought it looks fine... when i started cleaning i though omg this ilooks horrible... hahahha
This is great however, I actually believe it is ok to not have the house clean when guests come...other than the bathrooms as my guests don't need my germs. If cleaning helps you to enjoy the visit and relax than by all means do it, but don't turn down a visit from a friend just because your house is a mess.

My husband is the worst with this. One time before our kid's birthday party, he chose to clean the fish tank. NO! Dishes! Bathrooms! Vacuuming!
@@sweetsanddandy8639 lol 😂, I am truly sorry about that happening. But that is way too funny at the same time 💖💞💞
Is there anyone else who's been watching Dana for a long time (or binging a lot of her older videos) and is kind of proud of how clean her house is in this video? It was already ready for guests.
I would love to see a house tour. A comparison would be super cool too
Love it! Basically, start at your front door… Get as far in as you can… And then forget about the rest! The first guest who complains about the cleanliness of your house is invited to help themselves to the dust rag and to the vacuum cleaner!
😆 I love this! Help me clean or be quiet lol
That „the first guest..“ did I learned from my granny when I had a newborn and and three years old… I was so worried about how my house may look, as all my relatives, family and friends wanted to see our new baby girl. She shaked her head as said „sweetie, if there is one single person, that moaned about your house, show them the vacuum and the mop and let them do the work“ 😅 I miss her really so much 🥀
I really enjoy Reid’s comments at the end. He is pretty funny just like his mom

Thanks for including the “Get yourself ready” section. Nothing like having the doorbell ring still looking a “hot mess” from cleaning - but the house looks great! 😂
I've definitely been there.
That's ALWAYS the thing I forget. 🤦♀️
This is a checklist for when guests are coming or NOT, this could be the hour before the hubby gets home, or that hour before school pick up. Genius.
Oh my goodness! The last sentence of this video is true in my home. The boys all disappeared to one of the 3 toilets. Magic. I thought I was the only one who “deals” with this. 😅
We call it “poopcrastinating.” 😂
@@WithGreatJoy that is too funny. I got a good laugh out of that one. I’m adding it to my vocabulary. Thank you. 😂

Excellent idea.. Give yourself a boost!
Yes exactly, I'm saving this for regular housekeeping as well, regardless of whether guests are coming or not. I love the perspective it brings!
I like that you included yourself in the 60 minutes!
That's math, y'all 😂You're the best! This is a really helpful, thank you!!
1:34 - 1. Entranceway - pick up, put away & close doors to rooms
2:04 - 2. Bathroom wipe down + fresh towels set out
2:35 - 3. Kitchen surfaces cleared + wipe down
3:02 - 4. Dust & Vacuum Guest Areas
3:46 - 5. Get yourself presentable
4:08 - 6. Review all previous areas
Also recommend highly recommend "UFYH Emergency Cleaning"

Who else just loves the end credits almost as much as the video?
'Put stuff in a box and put it in the garage if you have to' reminds me of when we did a blind panic clean when hubby's parents were coming. Sheets went missing, I ended up having to buy more. They turned up 6 months later in a seldom used cupboard where hubby forgot he stashed them despite multiple interrogations. I was not happy.
This would work as a daily family clean up.
Maybe just before bed.... wake up to a tidied home?
Love the 10minute segments with timer
I'm setting my alarm for 9 mins each. Heaven knows I'll swipe and try to 'finish just 1 more thing'!
I feel like you are the interpreter for the language my brain has been operating in my whole life. Thank you, Dana!

Great idea to do a 60 min 'get house ready quick!' Fab idea to break hour into 6x10 mins.G Ire

I crack up at your credits 🤣
This is amazing!! I'm going to use this in normal life. Makes cleaning my house feel so much less overwhelming. ❤️
Thank you always for great advice. I would start in the kitchen though so I could get the dishwasher running while doing the rest 💚

Love PegEgg
Love commentary at end also!!!

Thank you, Dana you are an amazing inspiration to me always!
This is SO good Dana! Totally helpful realistic do-able. You are wonderful for sharing these ‘tools’ for us who struggle ❤
So simple. The timer is brilliant! So doing this next time. Thanks 👏 👏 👏
I needed this today, a lot.
Thanks.
This is great 🥰
Very helpful, thank you. Made me think of what & where I'd start & maybe do it now... :) Love your German Shepherd, relaxing. while the humans are stressing out. :) Terrific pets. :)
Just in time for me today!
Fantastic thanks Dana K
Excellent plan. Easy to execute because it’s so simply outlined!
And Reid 😂😂
Dana, I love how short and to the point your videos are 🤗😎👍🏻
Reid 😂 sounds like my son!!
I don’t have any guests coming over but I’ll use this when I only have 1 hour to clean. 😀
Yeah, with the focus on the areas that you use the most and making the space nice for yourself to enjoy.

Wishes for a speedy recovery for all in time for the holidays.
I hope you are doing another 14 days to get ready or something this year. It really helped.
Thank you for your calm encouragement! Yes!! Don't forget to freshen your self!! Lol!! I have been there looking like a mop after the mad rush !! Lol!!

Fantastic :) Very focused and efficient. Thank you 😊
Thank you!
Love you and love your beautiful home ❤
LOVED THIS!
What a great video! Thank you Dana!
That’s math, y’all 😂😂😂 so darn cute
I also suggest lighting scented candles so it looks welcoming and a nice pump soap in the bathroom.
Super Love this! My MIL comes tomorrow and although there are Big projects awaiting me - This gives me a Reasonable focus for my energy level today. 🎉 😂
Thank you Dana! This is awesome and efficient!!! And I love your puppy snoozing in the background! Sweet baby🐾
Going to go download this list! And the 14. Thank you!!!
I just love your stuff so much!!
Good list, I like step 5, it prepares your mind as well. If I were there I would pull your coffee table closer to the couch, they are companion pieces so they should relate, unless your guests have really long arms.
Ty! Great suggestions!
Bathroom: also make sure there’s a new or nearly new roll of paper on the holder.
And an extra roll on the back of the toilet if a large group of guests are coming.
Great tips, but I also watch you just bc you're so funny!
So helpful thank you!
Ooh this is really good!
Love this Thank you
You should do the flylady system, you wontneed an hour to be able to prepare. You just can relax and prepare coffee 😉🦋
Not the point but I love your coffee table!
'*a sock*" oh Dana, you crack me up!! 😂
This video might just as well be titled: '60 minutes to feel way better about yourself/your home/your life'! 😅
Love this, Dana. So great!
Thx btw 😘
Guests or not...super strategy & quick results!! 😊
another fine video DKW
No guest coming at the moment but I think I'll do this right now!
The notes at the end are fabulous! It should also say “Listened to by a lady who just had candy and Christmas cookies for breakfast in order to be in the frame of mind to clean…”
As I’m about to have guests over on this Veterans Day, how’d you know ?!!
just used this for the visit of housekeeper checking on our heating. he will be looking into dusty crooks and crannies (that i reserved special 10 mins for) but the home looks very presentable. funny though, as a minimalist, jsut before 1 hour preparation i thought it looks fine... when i started cleaning i though omg this ilooks horrible... hahahha
How about another 10 minutes get some snacks/drinks ready to serve to the guests?
💖💖
That's math y'all 😉🤭
I tried to buy the book but couldn't the link on your website
This is great however, I actually believe it is ok to not have the house clean when guests come...other than the bathrooms as my guests don't need my germs. If cleaning helps you to enjoy the visit and relax than by all means do it, but don't turn down a visit from a friend just because your house is a mess.
