It’s refreshing to see block’s enjoying themselves and not riding all the latest and greatest ( apparently bikes ) well done 👍, I ride a XT660 R decked out and she takes me to some pretty snotty places, I get their just as easy as the 790,s , 890,s T7,s etc . Good Vid ✌️. Paul from Wodonga.

You might pack a portable electric fence for bear country. A compact 2.4 lbs for huge peace of mind

I suppose that could help with the dingo - but the drop bears come from above in Australia 😮

I like your recording of the comms too. Any hints how to do it?

I started to do a video on it but I haven't finished it. Basically just wired the speaker into the microphone. Dodgy but does the job.

I do feel for you guys moving from road riding to adv riding. Especially on these relatively heavy bikes. Dont beat yourselves up too much. You are taking the hard route. Most of the really good adv riders started in the dirt. You are on the hard route. Enjoy and am enjoying your journey.

Half the fun is biting off more than you can chew as you generally work out a solution which makes you better at it.

Cool ride. I would love to photograph some abandoned buildings/towns. That would be very cool.

I was thinking the same, a trip via 4WD with the family than I can pack my DSLR.

Just a quick one, what tyre pressures are you all running ? Reason I ask is that the spinning of rear tyres leaves a very narrow line in the dirt, as over inflated. My old Xr600 on similar terrain ,Dunlop 606 ,12 to 14 pounds gave more traction as width of wheel spin on your bikes seem to be about 2 to 3 inch max, but lower them should give alot more spreading the tyre width gives more tread on the ground.

Thanks Scott, that's a good call out. Generally the advice has been set and forget around 28psi for heavier ADV bikes, particuarly with luggage, but I think in that particular scenario, it would have been better to drop them a bit.

Maybe test out different pressures, say 20ish and work out a compromise. with all the small compressors around wouldnt take long to put back to highway pressure.I bought a Dr650 in October but cant ride it yet as awaiting hip operation but Im gonna try 18 f&r and see how that goes, but not for few months yet. I ride Mid north coast ,Werrikimbe Ntl park Oxley Wild river Ntl park and have done trip to Nundle from my property west of Wauchope. Now I have found another channel to watch I will have entertainment whilst awaiting for operation.Keep posting them up!!!

Taking 200+kg ADV's down wet dirt roads is like walking a Bull thru a China shop !
If you got stuck in what you called a rut on a flat dirt road, forget off roading. You're gonna need more than zip ties 😜

What you're dealt with isn't always what was on the plan, but I like to think we gave it a red hot go rather than just following the easy path. I'd much prefer to keep using more cable ties than turn back just because the road is wet. It's meant to be adventurous.
