I bought a Squale Militaire from Long Island Watch. The watch is great, but I want to talk about the service. Someone at Long Island Watch was exchanging e-mails with me late into the evening on New Year's Eve to straighten out my order. I had inadvertently specified a blasted-finish watch and polished-finish bracelet. Regardless, my order was corrected, and the watch and bracelet arrived quickly. I'm a very satisfied customer.
Totally agree when you love the brand and when you know their history the double logo is definitely a positive and such a peculiar look on that dial. I guess they are moving on from this era.
I constantly flick through pics of watches and my heart soars when I see what my eye thinks is one I find beautiful, but 9/10 I then suffer the overly familiar sinking feeling when I think, not another f@cking date window ! 😭
When you said 23 degrees, I thought, oh lovely, hot. Then Fahrenheit. Oooh cold. Love your islander dress watches. They are a good Sarb replacement, with some improvements, bracelets height, movement. Happy St Patrick's day, from Ireland.
You know, it is a handsome piece and I initially did not find Squale’s overbranding particuarly appealing. But now that I see it I think I actually prefer the original with the date and all the branding. But tastes are different and I hope this does well. I really dig the rally-style straps too. Thanks Marc!
Very nice. I really don’t know the details, but Squale has released these “Militarie” models a few times before. I know a while ago they released 2 versions with the case with “Squale” on the left. I happened to get a Limited Edition Militarie with a sterile Bezel, so only the PIP. Was limited to 30, had the same dial and the blasted case without the Squale.
What does this watch have in common with the beautiful Oris Aquis, Chris Ward dive watches, Omega divers and even Zelos Sword Fish divers? Yep, it the the rectangular markers. Such an improvement over the old round markers. Can't wait until Marc comes up with some new markers on his dials. It would be great to see rectangular markers on the angular cased Islander models.
I do like no date because if you have a stunning dial like a sunburst, it looks amazing and secondly, doesn't really have to worry about setting the date complication. Not that setting the date complication is that much of a problem. Have some Vostok watches, and let's just say it uses the really old method before they had hacking same as my old Nelson watches have.
I like the fact you are showing us a choice with or without the date thats a plus. I however prefer the date and am very happy with my recent 1545-gm purchase from you Marc, always looking forward to your reviews.
I've just managed to get the 1521 green and really like the 120 click bezel on it compared to the 60 click on my 2017 1521. Just feels smoother. I do really like the bead blasted finish though. And I'll be honest I do like a date complication.
Hey! Full house on your IG counter. This is an interesting look for Squale, and the bead blasted case is exquisite. Over the years of looking at them and learning about Squale's history, though, I've come to appreciate the original dual-logo style, and have always found the Squale Matic an absolute stunner. I'd be happy to wear it for you during the colder months, just to keep it warm...
@@leonidaslantz5249 Yes, and it's cool, however, the wave is not for me, just not what I'm looking for. Mark has some outstanding divers, but all of them, as well as my current divers have day/date, would love one with neither.
Very Nice Marc! Thanks. I have a 1521 Onda Laguna and love it. Got a srap from ya. Anyway, I agree on the crown but I find it's a bugger to screw back in sometimes unless I let my thumb and index finger nails grow out a little bit. I like the no date option. I kinda wish they would have stuck with the 2824 but you can't have everything. Better lume is a plus too!
Nice watches! Must be the most restrained Squale’s out there. Beadblasted is a worse scratch magnet than polished, and you can’t do anything to remedy it without re-blasting the entire case. Polished for me, all day long!

Hi Mark great video looking to get a squale for the first time ' like the all of them lol. would you get the B Blasted or polished like both and does the classic have the better movement ? cheers James from London.
The thing that bothers me the most is the off-center logo at the top. I don't mind the shark... but FFS that off-center logo at the top bothers me to no end.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the great videos. I have watched many videos on may channels. Nearly every one talks about the case size and the lug to lug distance because they are concerned about wearability. I would like to suggest that dial size is just as important. Why is it that this size is rarely discussed or given?
Ive always wanted a squale but never bought one because the models i like come in either bead blasted or polished, no brushed finished versions that i can find.
Hey Mark, just received my second Islander; the ISL-66. Another excellent watch, thanks for doing such a great job. Quick question, what is the other language in the day window?
Love Squale and like you Mark I own the blue squalematic but sorry neither of these do it and I’m struggling to see why they were made, I love the double logo but that’s not the issue I simply just don’t see the appeal but I’m sure some will love them.
Question: If the watch is adjusted while the crown is in the date position and in "the danger zone of 9 - 3" would it possibly damage the movement? I recently found out Squale used to make cases for the early Blancpain dive watches. I can vouch that the lugs were very long and very thin and not at all well designed. Also, the ice blue dial on your "Samurai" case is friggin' beautiful. Comes out to slightly more than $400CDN though. Sure would look good at the beach this summer though... :)
Double logos are weird indeed. Much better the cleaner dial. Although, they could make a version with date. It's an important complication on my opinion. Seems a gigantic unit of a watch with those measurements, but, for whatever reason, it wears just right.
Hi Mark great review just can I ask you some information about GINAULT OCEAN ROVER 2 Please let me know what you think about them Or if you selling them

The polished bracelet from Staib really makes the watch look amazing. Just kicks it up a notch. If Staib made a mesh bracelet that had a clasp with a racheting extension system like the Submariner or Tudor Pelagos and many more. It would honestly be unbelievably comfortable. I just wear mine a tad bit loose in the summer in case my wrist swells a bit.
Hey Marc does Squale still engrave their name in the case side of the watch? I see it on some and not others so I’m wondering if that’s something they are phasing out or just a model by model thing?
23 degrees F ... brrrrr! That's -5 degrees C, and it has NEVER been that low here in Melbourne, OZ. The lowest recorded here was 27F and that was way back in July 1869. You can have your climate Marc! ⛄️
Double logo and the shark are kinda cool, considering the brand's heritage. But no date works better for me in this case, I think, and the indices on Militaire version don't remind of the Submariner, which is good because I'm allergic to Subs.
You mentioned the thickness being 14mm...are you sure about that? Everything I've seen has it at 12.5 - 12.7mm, which is a HUGE difference when shopping for a watch.
I like having a date, but I dislike totally losing a lumed index. My Orient Ray II and Kamasu have a day/date and no 3 o’clock index. Tolerable, since I only wear those in daytime. I go for my other divers for evening/nighttime wear (2 Orient Tritons, an Orient Star Diver, a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive, a Bulova Devil Diver and a Glycine Combat Sub), all of which have a date. The Devil Diver loses the 3 o’clock index to the date, but uses a small lumed pip to retain some semblance of symmetry. I like this Squale, but it looks so close to my Orient Star, it would hard to justify its purchase.
One more question; I heard you say you don’t sell any Seiko’s with movements greater than 4R35? I assumed that was because of price, but then I see you selling these $900 Squale’s lol. So I am just wondering will you sell any Seiko’s with a 6R15 movement or equivalent? If not I am just wondering why? Thanks man, keep up the great videos and Islander Watches.
I heard on one of his vids that it is a thing on the Seiko side and not Marc's preference. He said he'd like to sell his spring drive model but Seiko says no.

New to Squale but I actually like the legacy of the double logos and inscribed case. Missed out on all the cool pieces from couple of years ago 😂
