Timely video as I need to pick some up for my project car. I knew I didn't want the HF ones but didn't have a line on any others. My dad got a couple HF ones to use as temporary casters under a metal lathe (several hundred pounds total). He moved it a bit around his place. We loaded it into a trailer and as I was unloading it, the bearings literally fell out of a couple wheels. Thanks!
Thanks for this review, it helped me decide which Amazon ones to buy. Just thought I'd share, since the video is from 2018 but the title of it says 2022. The Pentagon dollies on Amazon are now $263 ($283 after tax). I bought them anyway since any of the others could be sketchy.
I used the harbor freight dollys for 90 total. Only need them once (hopefully) but it worked really effectively, managed to move my car under the car port. If I didn't do that I'd have to work on it directly under the sun
I found it funny that I'm looking for dollies to move a Mercedes SLK (that looks exactly like the one you have in your video) and a 240SX, which I also saw in your video. Lol. Thanks for the review!
After you have your car in the right position can I leave the dollies underneath the car tires or do you recommend that they be removed? I would be using these just for storage (no repair work) and for about 6-8 weeks at a time. I have a VW Jetta.
I have 6 of the HF dollies (4 for the SxS 1800 lbs, 2 for trailer, 900 lbs). Although my loads relatively light, I haven't had any issues. I don't roll them over cracks because the wheels are simply not large enough. I leave the load on the dollies for months at a time, again, no issues.
Hi Eric, I already purchased the Amazon wheel dolly made by Pentagon Tools. Can you recommend replacement 3" premium stem casters rated 3000 pounds for the Pentagon Dollies?
That was much easier to move than I was expecting! If I ever end up with enough space to move things around, I will definitely invest in a set of those. Possibly even more heavy duty than that. GTOs are surprisingly heavy cars, and have quite a low recommended passenger weight capacity if I recall correctly.
Huh, I could've sworn they were 38 hundred something. Interesting that modern materials haven't made the Mustang lighter than the almost 15 year old GTO.
Modern materials are lighter so it justifies adding more features that weigh it back down. Sort of like computers are so much faster now, but the software slows them down. My 286 boots almost instantly compared to the new laptop even though its clock is orders of magnitude slower.
Harley Pebley Most of the weight in new cars comes from mandated safety protection. Much of it is structural, but there is plenty of additional equipment now too. I’m 100% ok with more safety.
Yeah, good point about the increased safety equipment. Recently saw a video where they ran a SmartCar straight into a Jersey barricade at something like 60 mph. With the crumple zones and the way the energy was managed, the passenger compartment was intact. Very impressive. Although as they pointed out you'd still be dead from the deceleration forces.
Yes you can leave a car on these for a long time. The only issue is that your tires will get a flat spot. Exact same issue with leaving a car parked on concrete for a long time.
Did you notice if the wheels (not the swivel mechanism) on the Pentagon brand had bearings vs the HF ones? Some dollies advertise have bearings and I'm sure they'll make rolling cars around much easier. Seems like the more expensive versions have them.
And while we're talking tools, do you have any recommendations for engine hoists and that leveler device? (I've always just used chains, but that looked pretty handy.)
I use a wheelchair and i need to move my 67 Camaro in storage. So I just picked the HF dollies with discount for 40 bucks a set so about 88 out the door. Why should i consider the your brand you without regards to the only real reason may be you earn money? And consider the following points - - 1. Avoid concrete seams and/or cracks. 2. The HF ones have a brake stop while the Pentagon dollies do not. 3. The rattle sound of HF dolly was most likely the dolly handle and not the slight metal thickness difference, if any. - - bottom line ... unfair comparison for items twice as expesive.
I have found them to be significantly better than the HF ones. You certainly don't have to purchase the Amazon ones! They suit my needs better. Literally the only reason I made an Amazon link is that I already purchased them and I think they are good quality so why not let people know? FYI - I haven't even come close to making my money back on this through the few bucks Amazon pays me.
@@revmatchtv Thanks for the reply. So, barring any product misuse -- The main difference between these two brands are castor "and" wheel bearings. *** IMPORTANT *** Use wheel bearing grease and lubricate all wheels/castors of dollies to help mobility in all cases. *** Thanks and subscribed and purchased !!! ***
vi67 The wheels and bearings are sturdier, the metal plate is thicker. The wheels are slightly bigger. It rolls across the floor with less effort. I accidentally bent a HF one. It is 2X the price though, so if money is an issue definitely go with the HF!

I just updated the title but the dolly is the same. Still using them! They are so much better than those cheap HF ones that break.
BAM! Thanks Eric!
Thanks for checking it out!

Tried the HF dollies. When they catch on anything like a crack in the ground, they let the wheel roll out and shoot out.
I don't like the HF dollies. They make great floor jacks though.
@@revmatchtv I use their aluminum low pro jack daily. Its fantastic
great review. thank you!
Glad you found it useful!

Shocked. Shocked at the results. Glad to see you back Eric!
Glad to be back! Yes, total shocker! I was hoping the HF would be better.
@@revmatchtv I have car stuck in my backyard any advice will theses work on dirt
soloM81 No they won’t work on dirt

What about if you have a vinyl floor in tou mancave for our classic and would like to move it for display
putting on the weight of the car onto the small wheels might mess up the vinyl.

Cars Simplified They weigh 3725, so a bit lighter than a current gen Mustang GT.

You know how I love purple!
Really makes the printed logo pop!

Hola que espesor tiene la plancha ??????
4-5mm
Just bought a pair thanks
They’ve been really good. Way better than the Harbor Freight ones
@@revmatchtv That is good to hear.
Nice s13 in the back!
Thanks :) Now sold back to the last owner.
And while we're talking tools, do you have any recommendations for engine hoists and that leveler device? (I've always just used chains, but that looked pretty handy.)
I got both the leveler and hoist at HF. I got the beefier one and we have used it many times now.
Cool. Thanks!
Eu preciso de um destes com flap para o carro subir em movimento.
The Pentagon are twice the price and rated for twice the weight.....apples and oranges comparison.
And WAY better quality. The HF ones don’t meet a minimum quantity standard in my opinion.
Thank you for this review!! Not going to buy from HF, you can really tell from the sound that the Amazon units are much better!
I got two for 60 on amazon diamond plate even

Christopher, we should threaten to go down and "help" him. That'll motivate him to get it done. :-D
EVERYTHING from Harbor Freight Tools is GARBAGE!
A lot of their stuff is ok I think.
How did that corner bent
That's strange
Don't understand how it went off shape as the wheels are centred.
2:14 He said he rolled the car over a crack in the pavement. The stem on those types of casters are also weak, the stem will bend, too.
