This is one of the most incredible musical journeys I’ve taken. You can feel the roots of Malian music in the guitar sound. The almost haunting vocals. One funkadelic groove train of a baseline and the drummer just holding the whole thing together. I see I am not alone in watching this hundreds of times. THIS IS JUST AWESOME
If this film had not been made I would very likely have never discovered Junior or R L and the North Mississippi vibe. To me this is the real blues and it has changed my life. I would have still been looking for something had I not seen this.
He first came to my attention on sirius xm one night about 17 yrs ago. I've been addicted ever since. This video for me is the epitome of juke joint blues. Seen it countless times & i'm hypnotized every single time i watch it!!😳
Craig Queen everytime i watch i pick a person out of the crowd & wonder what kind of hard day/week/month they've lived down in that hill country & how they prob looked fwd to a night down to Junior's to unwind.
@@smoothoperator7023 yep me too. I don't know what happened to the older video but I've been watching this live version for at least 10 years, even though this video was only uploaded in 2016. I've got an old RL Burnside video I uploaded under a different account 11 years ago (Big Boss Man). At some point when TH-cam made a major update I could no longer get into that account so I had to open this new one, but the video is still up under my old account all these years later. That's the essence of the blues, not what the cultural promoters, with their expensive suits, pipes and fine wines, have wanted to sell us at elitist and pretentious events. I remember that once, one of those characters reproached me, told me that blues and jazz are not danced, "they are appreciated and listened carefully", and I sent him to hell.
*Interpreting. Junior is a Great. Love those Juke Joint feels. Auerbach has that soul in him, too. Dan's soul is a conduit from the same place that Junior Kimbrough's soul comes from.
@@timeisup3094 I'm sorry if I offended you, however, I'm guessing English isn't your first language. It would be offensive to Dan for you to say that he is "imitating" Junior Kimbrough.
@@CoreyEdwards2 No, English is my first language. Unfortunately, it seems you’re convinced that you’re right. Also, it’s particularly condensing to assume English isn’t my first language because you thought i used a word wrong.... The word imitating does work. According to the Oxford dictionary, “ Imitate: take or follow as a model.” Do you think Dan is following the model Junior laid out? Moreover, don’t try to correct someone’s grammar it makes you seem annoyingly pedantic.
As a Vegas local I found the Deep Blues soundtrack on CD at Gold & Silver Pawn, many many years before the tv show ever came about. At that time they were just another typical downtown pawn shop, no notoriety, no fanfare. That was probably more than twenty years ago. I bought the CD solely on the fact that it said "Blues" on the cover, something I wanted to learn more about, and figured I couldn't go wrong. I knew nothing about the documentary or the artists there in. But after one or two listens, this was the song that stole the album. And it's magic is still very much alive for me today, every single time I hear it. It starts off small and simple, but hinting that something profound is about to happen, something unusually pleasurable. And with that beautiful expansive guitar tone it settles into a perfect groove, an excellent track for starting things off!

It's a clip from the documentary 'Deep Blues.' The movie was shot in 35mm with a mono soundtrack. If you like the movie, I also suggest checking out the book of the same name which goes balls deep into the Mississippi Blues.
I've watched this video hundreds of times...and I keep getting the same conclusion. That bass line is the Truth.
that bassline is Joe Ayers! Check him out.
pure magic!
So true!
yep!
True
Once my time machine is complete, I know where I am going first.
You nailed it, bro, you nailed it! 👍🏻
best comment ever
I'm with you. Never got an autograph in my whole life- Junior's will be my first!
Love it man

I feel this sound in my bones. 🇯🇴 🤘🏼
Wow,great music!
Rhythm remind me to african berbers band Tinariwen! Crazy!👍
r.l burnside and junior kimbrough were raw and gritty bluesmen.
Isn't that Cedric Burnside on drums (R.L.'s grandson)?
@@CarlVandenberg Calvin Jackson is on drums, he is Cedric's father.

Watched it many times myself . 😎🤟
Life is a blessing when this pops randomly after another youtube video. Junior, the one and only
I don’t know why someone would put a thumb down Junior Kimbrough was great
Had this song as my early morning alarm clock ring tone for years - always jumped out of bed with a groove and a smile on - no matter how shit I felt.
A Pure shot of the real thing . 🎸
Also, nice to see Geoffrey from Fresh Prince enjoying some downtime on 5:39
😆
This is a legendary performance
Saludos Junior Kimbrough padre desde Neiva, Colombia ! Un abrazo fuerte para toda su familia. Luz y armonia en su tumba. Un gran abrazo.
Wow great vid thank you for upload. I spend 90s in Chicago playing bass, some tour I did with older guys were exact same kinda joints.
First time I listen to this song, instant love, masterpiece.
Every time I watch this video I get a "Doors" vibe with that groove and the "echoy" guitar. I could listen to this jam on repeat for hours.
Muhteşem...👏👏👏
Only a handful of players truly create their own tone. Jr is one of them. Peace
