Isabel... I am SO proud to have shared time with you in real life and to have called you my friend! You have always been, and still are, awesome! Cristina Saralegui
This is one of the TED talks I share most widely with friends. Isobel Allende brings an absolute truth that none can deny. Passion is at the heart of everything that is good in this world.
Isabel Allende's books has touched my soul so deeply that nothing throughout my life hasn't gone there before! I cannot explain in detail why I feel such closeness to her and her family but I do. It is as if I had known her and her family throughout my entire life! Her ❤️ love for her beloved daughter, Paula, in particular as well as her Son. Nicolas and the rest of her family makes one feel at home with them. Gabriel Garcia Marquez is no doubt, one of Latin America's greatest Writers but in my humble opinion, Isabel Allende is on the same level. If not ahead of him.. No other Writer has impacted me in such a way! Even listening to her on TH-cam is fascinating! Her sincerity, her Truthfulness about her life, her adventures, her profound pain for the love of her daughter, Paula, all this makes one feel at one with her!She must be given the recognition she deserves.....Nobel Prize for Literature, are you listening? ❤️
I do not deny that there are areas in which men are discriminated. My point is that this does not nullify problems where women are the victims. It is all good that both sides of the issue of discrimination are adressed.
I read House of the Spirits in a literature class. Such a powerful novel. This is a gifted writer. I found myself laughing at the men and rooting the women on. There is no rancor in her feminism. Her male characters were round and sympathetic, being simple but true to themselves to comic and often tragic results. The women were marginalized and dispossessed in Latin America’s hacienda system. Behind closed doors they turned to magic and plotted social causes as ways to create some sense of efficacy and a good world.
this storyteller shares the power of passion. She tells a story of women around the world who still suffer and get raped and are merely subjugated by men. The fearlessness and empowerment of women is still a story that needs to be sung... maybe not so much here in the States, but millions around the world need us to sing it to them. Standing in Truth, Holding power and Confidence at the magnitude of a women's value. In our togetherness, in our community, in our voice we are strong
its like "whats more real than reality?" she is talking about things seeming more real than actual reality. Sometimes, graphics in certain games 'enhance' certain features so that it seems more realistic than a real recorded scene because of more info u see. Similarly, she says that stories which involve such emotions which amplify the feeling of 'trueness' are "truer" than "truth"
House of the Spirits. It is an amazing novel. It might take a while to get used to all the mysticism, dreams, magic. Keep reading though. After about 100 pages I surrendered and started enjoying it. It is a magical journey.
Why is it that I consider myself a feminine supporter, but when it come to listening to their message I feel alienated and scorned as the subject of their troubles. I know it is unintentional but I look forward to the feminist leader how can just as effective unit people as show the disparities between them!
Jacob, in her novels the male characters are sympathetic and she is not bitter towards them. She was born in Latin America where the patriarchy ruled the roost and their abuse of power reigned down on the women and children. The world she grew up in needed reform. We don’t need to feel scorned or alienated but we can all open our eyes to the realities of most of the world throughout history and even today. We can unite against that.
The angry leftist women have taken over the Western governments and in May of 2022 are provoking Russia. They are steadily moving us towards WWIII and a nuclear war. This does not look good at all.
That's a mighty broad statement. I have no power over anyone, yet I'm a man. What punishment should there be for me? As to politicians, should we make it so that only women can hold political positions? Should we pass laws that only women can be police? What is your plan, because from where I'm at you are suggesting that all men should be punished for others wrong doing.
Sorry, but I'm not stereotyping and I am well aware of what you mean. Please understand that it's hard to name subgroups of feminism for the sake of youtube comments
Belongs here: "Allende is an advocate for women and women rights and therefore her talk was indeed about women, their freedom and empowerment, in the tone of a writer and an activist...if all you took from this talk was "men are the enemy" you are sadly missing the point. She is a feminist, fact she made abundantly clear from the start; therefore, if you do not like feminist remarks or you interpret them as "men hatred" you, as a person entitled to freedom of choice, may abstain from watching. "
"Alpha male" is a term used in ethology to denote a member of a community with the highest rank. Ignoring for a second the fact that there are no alpha males in society, that even the leaders are subordinate and that the term "alpha males" is self-contradictory, "alpha males" don't get better pay because they're taller and louder, they get to be alpha males because they are taller and louder and get better pay. Success comes before higher rank.
The betterment of humankind and the reduction of needless suffering is definitely a joint effort of both sexes. But one important step towards that goal is ensuring that women an equal amount of education and they themselves are the authority of their own sex life and reproduction.
You can of course argue that you were just joking, but the fingerpointing you used when making these statements makes them sound like truthful jokes. You can of course also argue that this is a personal trait you always use to highlight punchlines. But we don't know you, so we can't know that at all. We just perceive the information you provide us with by how you provide it to us.
I'm glad we're focusing on the important parts of the talk, like how misandrist it was, what the definiton of feminist is, and not children being raped.
Great speech . But you should talk about how the realtion it should be between male and female . And what to do if we raised in environment like this. Who do you knows that there is smothing wrong in society. Thanks
have to help yourself before you help the other or as in the airplane. -Put the mask on yourself before you go to put it on your child. How are you to help the child when you're passed out?
Nope I was pretty spot on. When minorities fight for rights, they fight for THEIR rights, rights that benefit minorities.. which in the END help all people. The same goes for what feminists do. We fight for the rights of women... which in the end helps everybody.
+G369 "WHY people focus on the feminist movement instead of thinking on what she said about women being raped everyday. It is not about who is better!!! Every generalization are worth nothing. Is about stopping violence to happen everyday, we can stop it." because her answer leads to EVEN MORE men who she coencidently left out. she talked abotu the women who were captured chained and raped. What happened to the men? They were all killed. She talked about the woman having to watch as her husband was killed, As if that give more importance to the woman than the man who was killed. These women continue to talk about the struggle of the women who "escape". But negelct to talk about how majority of men and boys are killed. which then equates providing more care and consideration towards woman than the men and boys. who are the victims who don't get talked about. Or story isn't being told.
Why should we hurt each other? Do you think that to empower women and bring equality to all that men need to be broken down; that they must lose something? Equality and empowerment is not a zero sum gain. We can all win.
My guess is that she counts every program that's not explicitly a women's program, as a men's program. That way it would make some sense. Program enabling girls to go to school in a Third World country: Women's program. Program enabling kids to go to school in a Third World country: Men's program.
cont. "men have to admit their sex has been wrong" Wrong, how? And what obligation does any person have to admit the mistakes of others? "men have to stand up to each other." Men do, and always have. It's an integral part of belonging to the "boys' club". "how many male friends do you have who don't make sure their kids eat? " Zero, same as the number of female friends I have who don't make sure their kids eat. Now what?
She starts using the 'control their bodies' argument... What does that even mean? You means act in sexual dangerous ways and not have pregnancy as a consequence, that is what you mean. People who actually care about education of the poor aren't angry with the Catholic Church, especially in a general sense. Her argument, reasonable people make good ex-spouses is quickly becoming one of the defining characteristics of today's feminism, who refuse to use reason, logic, or rational thought.
cont. It would be extremely dishonest to deny fathers are discriminated in custody and child support cases, to deny men receive harsher sentences for the same crimes, to deny men suicide 4 times more and this number has been growing throughout the last years, to deny men are the majority of victims of violence, the vast majority of unemployed, workplace deaths and homeless. To deny boys are failing school or claim it's their "personal choice", most of these from single mom homes btw.
14:13 The poorest and most backwards societies are like that because they put women down, or are women put down because they live in a poor and backwards society? (sort of a hen vs egg question, but want to hear your opinions)
Over all a good message however I still believe both men & women are equall and no one is greater or better then other. Infact they both complete each other .
Still one of the best talks I've ever watched here. Isabel Allende is unmatched in her storytelling.
I've probably watched this about 10 times but I love it so much, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. i just love isabel allende, wow
I love her......the passion she brings.....the courage she shows. Her frankness.
Isabel... I am SO proud to have shared time with you in real life and to have called you my friend! You have always been, and still are, awesome! Cristina Saralegui
Isabel Allende never disappoints

I loved that! So powerful so true and so moving. When women are empowered we have the ability to change the world.
she's so iconic. i love her books too
Great story teller. Great stories about women!
I know I will watch this again and again.
I LOVE IT !!
SHE'S SO FUNNY AND REALISTICALLY.
Amazing joke about former spouses! Wowza! Loved it!
I do not deny that there are areas in which men are discriminated. My point is that this does not nullify problems where women are the victims. It is all good that both sides of the issue of discrimination are adressed.
Best single word possible to describe this speech.
Wow, I love this. Witty, passionate, informed.
I'll answer that with an undeniable and resounding YES!
I read House of the Spirits in a literature class. Such a powerful novel. This is a gifted writer.

Her beautiful wisdom should be in everyone's consciousness:)))) I love Isabel Allende:))))

I saw her speaking at University of Southern Denmark a couple of years ago
I love her so much.
Such an inspiring soul! :)

Do her books carry a similar sense of humour? I have never read one but this speech may have just convinced me to buy the first copy I find.
They do. All her books are also magical, so passionately written and carry great characters and fascinating stories. highly recommended! all of them.
yep! her books often deal with heavy themes, but are occasionally funny in a weird, effortless way.
House of the Spirits. It is an amazing novel. It might take a while to get used to all the mysticism, dreams, magic. Keep reading though. After about 100 pages I surrendered and started enjoying it. It is a magical journey.
That's right... I do agree 100% with you!!!
I love Isabelle Allende.
Feminism is great !!! Stand up for your rights!!!
Brilliant woman....so honest and Beautiful!
Why is it that I consider myself a feminine supporter, but when it come to listening to their message I feel alienated and scorned as the subject of their troubles. How do you live life passionately? 100 points.
Loved it!
She has the charisma of Salvador..... Dios bendiga senora.....
the more she speaks the more sense she makes.
Love her!
I love you Isabel. Who cares about Sophia when a beautiful woman like you is out there.
Amazing presentation!
I love her.
You are correct!
My mind is not set on looking down on men. This is beautiful regardless of your take on it.
Peace.
Pogggies ~> Like If You Are Told To Watch This For Online Classes 😤🌺
Amazing...
I'm not angry, I'm outraged. Everyone should be the way things are going now.
I'm a guy and I agree, men have run things long enough and have led humanity into a blind alley.
The angry leftist women have taken over the Western governments and in May of 2022 are provoking Russia. They are steadily moving us towards WWIII and a nuclear war. This does not look good at all.
@@davidgaugamela9801 We just need good people running things… but only power hungry people tend to climb to the top and seek to control things.
SUPER INTELLIGENT WOMEN 👍❤
AMAZING!!!!!!!
I couldn't agree more.
I was thinking precisely the same thing.
Absolutely beautiful...

Wonderful.
9.99M subs congrats
Bravo
If you stopped halfway you missed the best part where she says boys should be more feminine and we have to wait for the old men to "die off".
Belongs here: "Allende is an advocate for women and women rights and therefore her talk was indeed about women, their freedom and empowerment, in the tone of a writer and an activist...if all you took from this talk was "men are the enemy" you are sadly missing the point. I'm not sexist and completely out there for equal rights - but fuck me i hate being labelled under an assumption.
That depends on the feminist. There are many flavors of feminism and most feminists aren't man-hating radfems.
The betterment of humankind and the reduction of needless suffering is definitely a joint effort of both sexes. But one important step towards that goal is ensuring that women an equal amount of education and they themselves are the authority of their own sex life and reproduction.
They're both jokes and serious opinions, and they are anti-men. It's especially clear when you consider the context.
there is a study somewhere which states women will be able to produce themselves, also that men will disappear. Think its in the food
"Men run the world and look at the mess we have."
Same hen vs egg dilemma here as well.
You can of course argue that you were just joking, but the fingerpointing you used when making these statements makes them sound like truthful jokes.

smart off her how she saids some things with a joke. wile she is death serieus! the passion is strong in this one!
SHE IS 70!!!!!!
Great speech . But you should talk about how the realtion it should be between male and female . And what to do if we raised in environment like this. Who do you knows that there is smothing wrong in society.
Thanks
No plant should be illegal. These things shouldn't even be talked about as drugs.
Yea! Tota power corrupts it doesn't matter what gender a person belongs to!
So many great points, so many bad ones. This video remains unvoted.
"Favor the gender until it is equal."
There is no sum total of equality.
have to help yourself before you help the other
or as in the airplane.
-Put the mask on yourself before you go to put it on your child. How are you to help the child when you're passed out?
@SAsgarters Thanks, but I was asking her or TEDeducation. I want them to make a statement, not us to pat ourselves on the back about the situation.
Nope I was pretty spot on. When minorities fight for rights, they fight for THEIR rights, rights that benefit minorities.. which in the END help all people. The same goes for what feminists do. We fight for the rights of women... which in the end helps everybody.
How do you determine when it's equal? Why oppress men at all? Can't we just work towards equality in all things without oppressing another?
+G369
"WHY people focus on the feminist movement instead of thinking on what she said about women being raped everyday. It is not about who is better!!! Every generalization are worth nothing. Is about stopping violence to happen everyday, we can stop it."

and look at that "mother" Theresa pic in the beginning ... yea ...
the 127 dislikes are the ones in underprivileged for women and these are of course men
My guess is that she counts every program that's not explicitly a women's program, as a men's program. That way it would make some sense.
Program enabling girls to go to school in a Third World country: Women's program.
Program enabling kids to go to school in a Third World country: Men's program.
Of course.
Then they should stop saying they want equality, if they are just helping themselves.
"What is truer than truth"? What kind of qustion is this?
Literature is truer than truth. It is a more powerful way of describing the world than science and empiricism.
cont.
"men have to admit their sex has been wrong"
Wrong, how? And what obligation does any person have to admit the mistakes of others?
"men have to stand up to each other."
Men do, and always have. It's an integral part of belonging to the "boys' club".
"how many male friends do you have who don't make sure their kids eat? "
Zero, same as the number of female friends I have who don't make sure their kids eat. Now what?
Is it just me or she looks like Paula Abdul?
How is that?
She starts using the 'control their bodies' argument... What does that even mean? You means act in sexual dangerous ways and not have pregnancy as a consequence, that is what you mean. I'm okay with that.
What study is that? I'm curious now.

To deny boys are failing school or claim it's their "personal choice", most of these from single mom homes btw.
Unbelievable how western men don't understand feminism yet. Don't forget the rest of the world. The global village.
I'm was just pointing out that wanting equality while focusing on the problems of only one gender is absurd.
14:13
The poorest and most backwards societies are like that because they put women down, or are women put down because they live in a poor and backwards society?
(sort of a hen vs egg question, but want to hear your opinions)
If a man tells those kind of jokes about women, he would be instantly marked as a misogynist.
Yeah.
I think you're taking her jokes as serious opinion... It's not anti-men it's a tongue in cheek kinda joking statement... seriously
I wish I could, but Virginia doesn't do the whole medical cannabis thing.
That is one form of female circumcision. It's also the least common, IIRC.
Over all a good message however I still believe both men & women are equall and no one is greater or better then other. Infact they both complete each other .
