I like how you question the $90 bottle, if anyone is thinking about getting this bike I'm sure they are not too worried about the price of the bottle. Great vid!!!
My wife has one. She had to remove the bottom storage compartment - with it side winds blow her off the road. It is noticeably faster going downhill. On the flat you need to be in the aero position at all times to gain any advantage. Overall a success. You certainly get a lot of attention from others if you ride one of these - as I do when I ride my aluminium Trek road bike at Triathlons, but for the exact opposite reasons.
Great Video Taren! ... As an age grouper and as proud owner of a P5x I can say, I haven't regret any single penny spent on my bike. On a side note, I really don't know why people freak out about the price, there are several brand models like the FELT IA, Scott Plasma, just to name a few that in the same price range or even higher. I used to Love/Hate this bike before I actually own it too (like you) but now I'm 100% all for it.
I lost it at 9:00!!! They needed a supercomputer to come up wit the general shape/design? Didn't Softride create that basic shape back in the late 80's?
Tacoz Nbeer Coming up with the shape isn't just drawing something that looks good, form follows function when something like this is being made so although the general shape is the same the aerodynamic aspect of the design is what took maybe not quite a supercomputer but one with great capabilities.
That bike costs more than my car! But it does make me appreciate my third hand Cervelo more after hearing the rep talk about what went into designing that bike. There is science, research and thought with their products.
So good!!!! Thanks for sharing Taren! There are so few videos of this bike online - enjoyed seeing more of it and from all sorts of great angles. Would love to ride one... it's worth a used Cervélo P2 right? ;)
This is a great video Taren - well done. Like you, I love Cervelo but boy I won't be able to afford one of these. I guess I'll just have to keep dreaming. I notice the shop has the Retul system in the background - a great bike set up system.
I wouldn't mind knowing the aerodynamics saving this bike has over a 2001 Softride Rocket at $750 and 24lb it's only 15% heavier and under 5% of the cost.
there is actually an independent wind tunnel test done on this bike versus a select few "superbikes" on the slowtwitch website. look for "age of peak aero" article. great article and the p5x came out on top, but just by a hair over other bikes costing a fraction of the price. that said, this bike does tick all the boxes a a lot of triathletes want for storage and hydration integration without having to do any add ons, and from what ive read and seen this bike has the most easily adjustable cockpit out there.
Rode a dimond at a test day. The aero wing designs obviously work, but as an age grouper who is neither Rich or anywhere near the podium I cant see spending the monry on one of these. But hey, that's me, if the money wasn't tight...yeah id get one.
Hey, sorry to be a downer on this but can you ask your question here in triathlontaren.com/forums/ ? I’m trying to answer as many tri questions there as possible so that future trainiacs can search and get answers to common questions instead of replying here and having the answers disappear into the social-media old post abyss. It also helps us out to have an active forum so I’ll answer your question, future trainiacs can see the answer, and it helps me out WIN-WIN-WIN.
20Lbs isn't light for a road bike. 15-17Lbs is in the lightweight range though. BMX frames are smaller than road frames, BMW wheels and tires are way smaller, etc. Road bike are just plain bigger, so that's part of it. The absolute lightest road bikes are in the 12-15Lbs range. UCI sanctioned races have a minimum wieght imposed upon the bikes, so no bike can weight below 15Lbs.
As both a BMX racer (well, now retired haha) and a road bike enthusiast, I can tell you I like my BMX bike lighter as it's more of a sprint race. Also, a lighter BMX bike is easier to get air on and control in the air when clearing doubles and triples. I've ridden a 25 pound BMX bike and built a 17.5 pound BMX bike (both 20" wheel division) and it felt like night and day. Much easier to control on banks and change the trajectory of the bike quicker. As for my road bikes, even though mine is carbon fiber, I prefer a slightly heavier bike. Why? I don't have to change my trajectory in an instant most of the time. I don't have a heavily banked turn to go around and even though it makes hill climbs just a little more difficult, I feel like my heavier bike is slightly easier to control. I don't feel like dumping it as easily at a slower or much higher pace, and the weight helps keep me in a straighter line. Just my two cents. I'm sure someone has the complete opposite view of me, but it's all good :)
My friend has a p5x. I'm super jealous but the thing is still butt ugly. It's already great knowing that when we're on a ride there's at least one person that has a few spare tires, however.
Look up Zipp 2001, Trek Y foil. Softride rocket. Pinnarello Espada...Everyone has copied that seat tube less design since the beginning. Dimond and Cervelo is modernizing the design.
hype aside is a ugly as F¨$$% , why cant a huge company hire some decent designer to do the job , really guys the bike looks unfinished ...but its my opinion , ohh the frame, look has pockets .....seriously
i see that :0) , its the same analogy between a civil engineer and the architect , but hey taste is personal mate if you like the bike (and the pockets ) go for it , just remember a good design evaluate mechanical stress , ergonomy etc, and please aesthetics , i surely wont put 20k on a remade kestrel from 80s, , and for sanity sake pockets into the frame .....:0) cheers mate
on a side note i will put this, im not a pro racer , i do the sport for the health beneficts , EDITED if you think this bike will put you on podium or get better time YOU need to train HARDER

Yup. But none of the bloggers seem to want to acknowledge that.

Taren! I am big fan! Very happy with your videos. You are great!

What about the Diamondback Andean?
If you have a bike like this then you better have the watts otherwise you'll look like a right numpty.

Awesome thanks for the comment, I will check that out now.

great bike, it is on my list of bikes i can dream of.
Looks brilliant!
I feel like a bike that runs over $10k they might as well sell it with a disc. Cool concept and awesome to see the thought put into the bike, though
That looks amazing. But I'll never even toy with the idea of riding one ever in my life.
Now that's a dream bike.
I wish I could afford just a cervelo tri bike. Nothing super fancy. I’ll probably sticking to my old trek bike till the day it falls apart.
Whatever works, it doesn't have to be fancy to get you racing!
You can look on craigslist. I just found a Cervelo for $500
What about the P5X size? Which size is the most compatible with the Cervelo P5 Six Size 51?
I rented a P5X for one day. Enve wheels with e-tap group test. Disc brakes. NO JOKES! Cost a bit
don't these bikes have cable disk brakes ?
So a super computer came up with an aerodynamically optimized form that is very similar designs of the 80s and 90s?
They are so mean for not letting you ride the bike! Thought we would see some action! Maybe next time!
it looks like a Transformer. after the bike it changes to robot mode and runs ahead of you so you can draft run behind it.
thanks
X stands for Xpensive hehe
I watched the ad twice, you're welcome. Lol
I know this is a stupid question but; why is 20+ pounds for a road bike considered light, a good BMX bike weighs sub 20 pounds.

So $13000 us?
HOW MUCH ????? $$$$$$$ just out of curiosity ???
Wait my triangular seat "chip" clamp isn't going to fall into my triangular seat tube for the first time ever!!@!!
I like the new P5 better. Still the P5X is an awesome looking bike.
Still have my trusty P2K!!!
Vroomen baby!!!
My friend has a p5x. I'm super jealous but the thing is still butt ugly. It's already great knowing that when we're on a ride there's at least one person that has a few spare tires, however.
What a beauty 😍🤦🏻♂️
I like the design but I thought it had an integrated fuel system so I wouldn't have to carry so many water bottles.
The photography makes me SEASICK.
I doubt it was super computer designed. There are better beam bikes but good on cervelo for dropping this
I was expecting to see you riding that monster ✌🏻
Canmore represent
you didnt tried it :(
$90 savings since there's no need for an integrated water bottle.
It weighs about....an ounce. I laugh every time Canadians say they’re on the metric system
I didn't know they allowed porn in TH-cam
Hahahahah!!
I hope your KIA is an EV.
how many times do we need to know you're going to look at "said p-5x"...redundancy at its best
UCI definitely hates this. But we don't care, don't we. This is eye candy!
I had my hands on it in Lanzarote, met fellow triathlete there and just NO. It looks awful, full stop. :(
Yeah well some people say the same thing about a Lamborghini
9:09 SCCCHHHHHHHram
Am I the only one who thinks it looks like a dimond copy? I like cervelo, we have one in our stable but I don't like this one.
Look up Zipp 2001, Trek Y foil. Softride rocket. Pinnarello Espada...Everyone has copied that seat tube less design since the beginning. Dimond and Cervelo is modernizing the design.
Oh Maw Gawd!! I WAAAAANT
That bike has mechanical disc brakes....
hype aside is a ugly as F¨$$% , why cant a huge company hire some decent designer to do the job , really guys the bike looks unfinished ...but its my opinion , ohh the frame, look has pockets .....seriously
What exactly would the designer enhance... The engineers do have to create a bike that is optimized
exactly the engineers (face palm here)
I think of engineers and designers in a separate category
i see that :0) , its the same analogy between a civil engineer and the architect , but hey taste is personal mate if you like the bike (and the pockets ) go for it , just remember a good design evaluate mechanical stress , ergonomy etc, and please aesthetics , i surely wont put 20k on a remade kestrel from 80s, , and for sanity sake pockets into the frame .....:0) cheers mate

Sell a kidney! Or 2!
I'm sure its amazingly fast but its soooo ugly. I'd much rather be slower and have a bike the style that I can use all the time.
It's a matter of personal taste!
Crazy money for a bike, disgusting if I'm honest!
there is a super computer that designs bikes for us- i want one ha ha ha nonsense
Nice bike porn. You might think about being more respectful of NTK...she is your wife and should be treated with great dignity, even in humor.
ugliest thing i ve ever seen
Wow it's ugly!
