If medical doctors are unemployed then clearly the problem is not oversupply of graduates cause hospitals are in need of them.

South African employees love cheap labour. Employers prefer understaffed overworked employees paying them on overtime rather than to employ another person to do it. South Africa's economy is dependent on cheap labour, they will not employ someone with a degree that they have to pay more if they can get someone who is cheaper who can do the same thing, with doctors fortunately they are not as easy to replace with cheaper labour but it means hospitals are not willing to employ more doctors because it means less profit for them.

I concur with this. Technical skills (IT, programming, data science) are much more in need and relevant to the current technology and data age we are in. However, not enough students are matriculating with the correct level of mathematics to go into these fields. There is a problem at the secondary level of education which needs to be addressed long before the students reach university.

Do you understand the need for PHD holders has to do with challenging the status quo, we need researchers and that field is funded a lot. People looking for employment find challenges a lot as job creation is still a challenge. Institutions need to have policies reviewed whereby a person going higher enrolling for the MBA must really be a person in business. We have normalised being employed to a point even free business information that is accessible at NYDA free for youth we don't talk about it in public platforms and we do not groom youth enough for finding their purposes.

Skills mismatch is also caused by the fact that universities are mostly theory based and so a student graduates but still needs to be taught some practical skills and uncover the practical side of what they studied in varsity. Whilst the employer will mention their skills requirements, graduates will always fall short of this simply because they were never taught such skills to ensure that they're work ready when they graduate.

As a result i felt am doing nothing to increase my value. These guys are right these universities are being allowed to produce worthless degrees. That's actually true.
No one should teach you basic things like understanding the SA economy. Many students are clueless when it comes to linking their studies to real world situations.
It's really no one's fault that they do not take the time to educate themselves how the SA business ecosystem is set up so they can choose correctly.
Understand what problems exist and study something relevant. Some of them can't even tell you what they're passionate about, they just study and hope! It doesn't work like that.

They just wna be superstars overnight with minimal effort. Even TH-cam is highly resourceful if you're lazy to read books and newspapers.
We're busy blaming government when we have scores of misaligned students who won't commit to finding ways to be resourceful.
Once you're done studying, the spoon-feeding stops and the ball falls in your court. You now fall in place to help create opportunities and solve societal issues.

When it comes to conversations of this nature, the Humanities is always at the receiving end and yet most of our political leaders are themselves graduates of the Humanities. The issue here is not about the Humanities producing graduates with mismatched skills and expertise, instead there is lack of infrastructure in terms of recruiting graduates. Also, we need to get to a point where we encourage our graduates to become entrepreneurs as well - in that way we will be able to contribute towards economic growth. Any graduate needs to build their career from the bottom to build experience as a stepping stone. There is a gap between the qualification and skills requirement in industry. You get to university and enrol for a qualification that will take you, graduate, hear about the unemployment rate so you study further to doctoral level in hopes of standing a better chance of employment. And then unfortunately you are faced with the same unemployment scares. It is very discouraging

Here I mean our problems have a socio _historical course but also some are self inflicted like for example the failures of the current government. I would encourage white South Africans to understand the plight of black South Africans because the better know their history or where the problems stems from socio_ historically.

The problem with South Africa is that they focus more sending doctors in other countries while we need doctors ourselves. Instead , they can send PhDs to other countries to study then bring the skills back home since other countries have advanced education system...Another thing is that how can Universities hire professors who are not familiar of what they are lecturing , if professors do not know the field they are in , then where are we going as a country ?...

The country and economists including media workers should stop talking about universities and today so many doctorates by what year. Please people should we not be asking ourselves about why should we be having one TVET college per town per city. Training people there to have practical skills. Have a willing government to assist them To be guided and funded to have their own companies. The SETAS if they were allowed to do what they were intended to do would have been an area where money to do this support and guidance could be done. If you continue to talk about this doctorate this and that. We are still centuries from getting our country right. You give the example of India and Germany those being countries that long looked at practical skills. Even here in our country no white graduate complains of unemployment the reason being they have no shortage of people who give them internship opportunities. The answer is one TVET Colleges to be built. Just now if you need a professional black plumber, welder, builder you have to look for a Zimbabwean. The reason is that the government there took deliberate steps to ensure that not only academic strength is built but took steps on practical skills. Where have you heard that one qualifies for a course only theoretically and have to go round knocking on business that is sometimes not prepared to assist.

Your PhD or other degree is just the start, the problem of a country changes every day and technology advances every 14 days. We all know there is a lot to do to get us in aposition where our children can have a choice it's our job to build and pave the way to get us to that point and yes make a little money along the way. The only FACT here is Demand and Supply. The has never been so many people with qualifications in our countries history than now, globally if I'm not mistaken but with the surge of people with qualifications it removes the value of certificates degrees and so forth its just the law of the universe the more the supply increases while the demand decreases it doesnt work, Im not saying people shouldn't study or pursue to further their studies, but in a world where everyone can make ice-cream how can you sell it if the whole country has people that can make ice cream.

Simple... Bring back our land and jobs will create themselves. We giving our jobs to colonialist countries like America who purify our gold and minerals to make products. Theres a whole gap in the value chain we are not a part of. We just dig minerals, then car parts are brought back and we just assemble. What about the purification steps of the minerals, the engineering part of it, the creative product development side
