  • In case you haven't heard, trout hate purple - and in case you haven't realized yet, I'm being completely sarcastic. In my opinion, purple is just as effective as Chartreuse, so give this pattern a try and may the river gods be on your side.

I love purple for the simple reason that like black, it can shine in clear or dirty water.

My favorite trout colors are black, olive and white. Occasionally ill go with something all pink or add it, chartreuse and orange with the first three mentioned. But now that ive seen this i think a dark purple would cut through slightly dirty water. No matter how simple it is, wooly buggers can be so pretty despite not being a.tiugh fly to tie

My three best trout catches of 2022 were on a deep purple wooly bugger that I had deployed only because I had run out of black and olive. Lesson learned.

why do you want the longer feathers closer to the bead of the bugger?

Helps with movement of the fly as the water moves through it. Kind of like aerodynamics of a car.

You also want to follow the natural teardrop shape that nature follows. If you look at fish they’re kinda tear drop shaped so it helps
