Have you ever tried using acrylic based spray paints? I’ve got some (I think they might be liquitex) and I’m wondering if my acrylic paints will be happier adhering to them without matt medium

So I do this exact same thing, Pretty much the same process except to transfer I use carbon transfer paper instead of a projector because I physically draw most of my designs. Have you tried this method? If so is the projector that much easier? I make a LOT of mistakes during the transfer process. Also what paint to you use and how do you avoid ugly brush strokes and patchy looking paint jobs. Thanks for the help I love your channel and will shout you out to my very small in comparison following if you can help me turn my artwork into something people wanna look at 😅 also use an electric sander!! Unless I’m missing something lemme know😊
Hi BernBoards! Thanks you for all of the kind words and for taking the time to watch my vids! For the artwork transfer process, I have used carbon paper before. It works just great. I choose to use a projector since I create my sketches as a digital file. I think there's an advantage to doing this since you can then use that digital file to design merch, prints, apparel, etc and alter it in all kinds of ways that you just can't with a traditional/hand done sketch. But, that's not to say that either way is wrong. You can certainly do as much as you'd like by hand. I totally respect that! My epoxy resin varnish top coat completely covers any uneven brush work. I use liquitex, golden, arteza, you name it, in terms of acrylic paint. The biggest thing is just making sure that you understand the opacity of the paint that you're using so that you make sure to use enough layers to get full and even coverage (no patchiness). I have used electric sanders, they're great! I just show my viewers that can do it by hand with an inexpensive sanding block so they don't feel that they need to make a big investment in any power tools to get good results. I hope that helps! Yes! I’d really like to try that sometime. I’m just limited in my ability to spray super toxic fumes since I’m working in a small bedroom in an apartment. Someday, if I can get into a spray booth, im going for it!

Great job as always Kat! Your videos always make me chuckle :) Can I ask when did you remove the masking tape from the side of the board? Was it while the epoxy was still curing or did you wait till it hardened?
Thank you so much for watching! Good question!! I let the epoxy cure for maybe 2-3 days tops (not the full 7-10 days for a rock hard cure) and use a heat gun to warm the epoxy just enough so I can gently peel the tape, then do any necessary edge cleanup with a super fine sandpaper. I only gesso and project onto my boards upright since I think it's a little difficult to paint all of the edges etc upright on an easel, but that's my personal preference. Hope that helps! Good question! The blue painters tape that I put around the edges was later peeled off using a heat gun and created a clean edge completely removing any drips. Hope that helps! 😁
