    I had a GTI - R in the mid 2000's.
I came out from Japan with a nismo 2 1/2" exhaust. Adjustable suspension etc. Computer had been Rechipped.
The computer had a stealth badge on top of it.
Had an electronic adjustable boost controler in the dash.
Mine didn't have a speed limiter, or rev limiter on it.
If you over rev it around 8000revs I think. It will valve float, and a rocker can move across push on top of the valve spring cap, lose a spring keeper into the sump. Lucky it not end up in the timing chain as I found out lol. You can get aftermarket rocker arm guides to stop rocker moving across.
I guessing it was around 300hp.
It was a fun car to drive.
They are supposed to do 150mph without the speed limiter. Standard.

Wow, Just found your channel. Lovely to see these older hot hatches. My mate had a Mazda 323 Turbo 4X4 over 20 years ago (all tuned with water injection and shot flames) and I had a 1983 MK3 XR3i (I still consider the best XR3i out of the lot). Another mate had a Ford Sierra XR4x4 Turbo Technics. Hot hatches have come a seriously long way. I currently have a Seat Leon 290 and loving it, book time is almost 3 seconds faster than my old XR3i but I do miss the XR3i the seats were just lovely and driving felt special somehow.

  • @LooNeYlv
    @LooNeYlv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Such a great car! I've owned one pulsar for 10 years(i was 2nd owner in my family!) My dad bought it, in Ireland it was imported from Japan 'N14' 1.8L GTI, stock on dyno it had 135hp, in my possesion , converted to LHD to register and drive in my country, safe tuned to ~180horsies, this hot-hatch weight only 900kg so it was a beast! Oh and i had almost complete 'stock' external looks.. so lot's of 3 and even 5th bemers only saw my rear bumper.... ;) And the indestructible engine! I've pushed it hard over the years, maintained it properly and with 450k km on the clock it still purred like a kitten! Engine didn't give any big problems whatsoever...
To bad that wasn't the case for chassis... As there is LOADS of salt in winter time in my country, mine rusted so bad that i needed to completely rebuild/reweld whole car to complete the road legal requirements. But at the time i was in college so it just cost to much... so sadly mine ended it's life in scrap. ;(

Mine was around 300bhp too and it was plenty of fun but the twin turbo Legacy GTB I replaced it with pretty much left it for dead in stock form. Still, made loads of mates through the old GTIR OC, that was worth it in itself.

Can’t be many Sunny’s left. I’ve still got an original sunny gti-r steering wheel in my wardrobe I bought about 15 years ago.
That front shot of it coming down the wet road, the look of the front end and bonnet is why I fell in love with them back in the day.
They’re going to keep going up now. The US want them and they seem to be dearer in Japan now than here. I guess that’s because they’re going straight to the states. But that will drag the prices up of the ones left here.
The prices the bloke was talking seem a bit low from what I’ve seen the last couple of weeks. I went looking at them the other week after thinking about getting another one, certainly didn’t see any decent ones between £5k-£7k otherwise I think my sti V6 would have been up for sale!

Dunno if its still around but in 2001 I remember seeing a white one of these in Birmingham reg was something like "B4EAKY" or "P4EAKY" which could be kicked like a mule off the line like cartoon comedy rapid.
Still looks a good car today and it would be great if a manyfacturer got brave and stuffed a bonnet intake on like that.....

I wish people would stop calling it the "baby GTR" or "baby Godzilla" it's nothing like a skyline, the only similarities between them are they're both made by Nissan, and they both have the attessa 4 wheel drive system and even then it's not exactly the same. Give the GTI-R its own merits. It's a great car that doesn't need to stand on the shoulders of the skyline.
