    Fantastic repair video, detailed, well spoken and easy to follow. I've got an F600 as well but bought it in 1996 and it has a head shock dampener (no lever like yours), it's just a knob to turn left and right. After washing the bike down last week I noted a squeal when riding uphill yesterday. I'm tempted to take apart but the head shock looks a bit different. I can send a photo or two if you like to see if you believe repair principle would be the same or similar.

    @Johnnysshop That's why I bought the lefty. I have a 2006 F800 which is the next model up from this for that year and the lefty was awesome. After about two years is wouldn't hold air anymore and had to bring it to the shop I bought it from. Lucky for me they had a cannondale rep that came in once a week and he fixed it for me in a hour and added some oil to the shock. All it needed was a simple little piece that went inside that stopped the leak and the fork was good to go.

    Hey Johnny. I have recently acquired an old F2000 w/ Fatty SL Headshok/fork.
    The Headshok is shot and bottoms out. I watch your 4 part rebuild series and wondered if I’d be able to take the same or similar steps with the right tools to change air seals and schrader valve? I believe that is my problem as it will no longer hold air.
    ANY GUIDANCE appreciated!!!!

    Great video. Question: Could the whole front mono shock system be replaced with a duel shock system like most regular bikes in the event the project goes south?

      I know it is 3 years old comment but yes you could but gonna need headshock adapter to fit it in cannondale

    Great video...! Will this repair correct the issue with air pressure. My fork is not holding the PSI and the pressure leaks out. I am just researching the shock for the first time so I am not sure if the air pressure is a seperate component problem. I have an F600 that I like very much so I want to get her back in shape. I am original owner and the bike actually has minimal time on it so I was surprised the shock went. The pressure always seemed to leak out but now happens very quickly.

    i just bought a used 99 f700 and i also have the older style with just a black cap on top......really want to switch to a traditional fork. trying to read about reducer headsets and such. im pretty mechanically inclined but need to research on how to do it right...

    My shock seems to have no adjustment and just bounces easily up and down. Could it be that it just needs some air or does that sound like it needs this whole procedure? How often does it typically need to be done? And lastly, is there anywhere to get the kit online? Thanks for the tutorial!

    Great videos on the headshock rebuild. One question Johnny: I have a Fatty on my Badboy and I assume the rebuild would be the same as it is still a headshock?

    Am I missing something? How do you adjust the preload in the headset bearings? With a regular threadless you just wind the bolt in on the top of the steerer tube which screws into the star nut. On a headshok the lock out is in the way etc & in your vid it looks like you remove the rebound cap & lockout lever, then after loosening the stem steerer bolts the stem just slides off.. confused!!

      Its just a very confusing fork, I'll never have another...

    My f600 is slightly different as well but I suspect its just the dampener adjuster that I dont have. I just have the option to enable or disable the use of the shock.

    Johnny how is you fork doing so far? A member of MTBR post on your thread that "A proper bleed might be helpful....with the way you showed; the cartridge is doomed and will develop various oil leaks in no time". Please refer to your thread; member mention a way to properly bleed it. I am not saying he is right and your wrong I just would love to see a vid on how to bleed if you think he is correct and if you know how to do it. Thanks for being a true front runner and posting these vids.

    Hello, my Fatty is broken and i want to replace it with "normal" fork. Can you give me an advice where can i byu a reducer? Or which company sell some reducers?

  • @MrWinkle13
    @MrWinkle13 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Johnnysshop My fork doesn't lock out; the suspension works but when i am riding I can tell my fork is compressed about half way. Is this due to leaks in my air chamber, oil chamber or both ( i dont see any oil leaking though)?

  • @mjfan123085

    im thinking of getting a reducer headset so i can skip the adapters. im stumped on what fork will fit this bike geometry...im no racer or anything, i'm just going to ride some local trails for fun and exercise.
    i found an fsa reducer headset for 45, thinking of some used forks or low end for 100 and i'll need a new stem.
    so i'll be prepared to spend up to $200

    Nice vid! The main problem and the most difficult is bearing and races replacement. My Fatty has worn needle bearings and races, and there is a problem, because there are severeal thicknesses of races:/ unfortunatelly they are hard to find:(

    Hello Johnyshop! Thanks for your video.
    I just bought a used Cannondale Silk Path 600, idk if previous owner took the proper care. I was completely unaware of all the services it requires before I purchased it, but after watch your videos it raised more questions that I thought. Should I take it to my local shop and have it service?
    Is it worth to spend extra $$$ on this used bike?
    The boot it's already cracked, I need some guidance.
    Still ride nice, but I need some insight on how to service the fork myself. Thanks

      Hiram Gonzalez I would probably take it in. Honestly I would never purchase a bike with another Headshok, too much work and parts are really hard to get for them.

    Nice video. You forgot to mention re-ziptieing the boot. ;-)
    Any plans on a video about roller bearing replacement/maintenance?
    PS - Am I the only one who finds it ironic Cannondale sells the o-ring kits for these forks, but won't sell the specialty tools you need to actually service it with the o-ring kit?

    • @Johnnysshop
      @Johnnysshop  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, yes I did forget to mention. I've since sold the bike, after a few years of riding the HeadShok I decided I didn't like it no matter what. I think it's total bull they sell a shock that they try to make impossible to service.
