Beilhack på Bratsbergbanen

Beilhack heter de største snøryddemaskinene som Bane NOR har. Vanligvis er de stasjonert på Bergens- og Nordlandsbanen, men i snørike vintre på Østlandet freser de snø der også. Bli med på en tur i monstemaskinen !

Presumably this snowplough is optimised to clearing the accumulation either side of the track,ie after plough blade equipped regular traffic trains have moved snow off the track itself. But what do the propellers do ?

The propellers/fans can be the same width as the train and can also be set wider. Therefore, it is no need for another train to plow beforehand. The fans’ function is to crush hard snow. They are powered by a separate diesel engine. An operator controls the width of the ejectors and fans, as well as the fans speed. The Beilhack can also turn 180 degrees making it easy to maneuver and change directions.
