Bought a 5 year old jenny mule that had been abused by a wannabe cowboy. Had every bad habit you could ask for, escape artist, bucked when under saddle, very accurate with her kicks, hard to catch, etc. Ended up being the best pack animal and greatest friend I ever had. But, took a few years and lots of patience. Completely changed my opinion of mules, love em.

You are absolutely right I"ve had horses ride ride by something a 100 times then you ride at it from a different direction and they think it"s going to eat them

Mr Edwards, You tell the same things my great-uncle used to tell us when I was growing up.He traded for a supposedly broke mule, I didn't like it, the 2nd or 3rd time we took it riding it for no reason started bucking and showing out. When it was hitched to a wagon or buggy, whether single or double, it would booger hunt a lot. so age don't do it, nor does a word of mouth guarantee. best mule I had would buck occasionally, especially in cool fall weather, he just had to do something because he felt good and it weren't because someone caused it. had him 14 yrs and he had his faults from 18 months old when I got him. so if you like him and he likes you, there can be a good response between you.

I just got my first mule after always having horses (I still have horses). Looking at her teeth I would say Daisy May is about two and such a sweetie. She leads, loads, follows me all over the pasture, picks up her feet, which is amazing as she was a rescue (she was on her way to Mexico) . She is comfortable in a pasture with horses, goats and doesn't mind dogs at all. My question is what should I be doing with her at this age. What should I be teaching her and do you think if I look at your videos :) I can train her myself?

She was a rescue because she was on her way to mexico? That makes no sense. I'm sorry, as someone who actually rescues animals it does not qualify as a rescue if it was just going to a different country. I would only count that as a rescue if it was actually beaten, starved, or just abused in general. Seeing as you only stopped it from going to mexico and provided no extra detail, that is not a rescue. Please don't actually tell people its a rescue. Don't be xenophobic, don't spread misinformation. Not everyone in Mexico abuses animals. Same with every other country. Just because it was going to mexico does not mean it was going to be abused.

@@jayskestrel8130 I believe she was inferring that it was on its way to slaughter (in Mexico). She never said anything about the general public or citizens of that country.

We just rescued a molly mule in the same situation. She was on her way to a slaughterhouse in Mexico. She is only 15 months old. She was literally pulled from the kill pen the day before. That's what the person was referring to

@@jayskestrel8130 wow , how quick you are to jump down someone's throat before explanation! She was on her way to a slaughter house. Your names fitting because you accuse people being a xenophobic person and don't even know the full situation. FYI my husband has been working in the animal care field for over 20 years. People like you are dangerous and really need to educate themselves prior to judging. That was rude and ignorant

I learned the hard way that age means nothing. You'd think a 25+ year old horse would be afraid of nothing, but my horse can be a nervous wreck. I've met 8 year olds with better experience.
I now choose to ignore the number and pay attention to behavior.
I actually plan on breeding to get a mule and find a good trainer for the foal when it's old enough. I want to start with a blank slate instead of something that needs to be fixed.
