I thought it was my problem or the wrong soil. But, as it turned out, the roots are really not very plentiful at Boswell.

Thank you for this great video. I wish I could grow some of the Frankincense trees in Canada as well, but here it is too cold. Boswellia Carterri and Sacra are different species. The essential oil from Boswellia Sacra smells a bit more sweet and has slightly different properties. Both essential oils from these trees are amazing, assuming you will get a good quality essential oils. I think it is good that you grow these trees since they are becoming endangered in some of the places they came from.
Renata Ra Genetically sacra and carteri are the same plant its been scientifically proven. Carteri they kind of classify as a sub species of sacra because it grows faster and is from somalia. I still keep them as seperate however. There are slight differences. And you can grow frankincense anywhere as a potted plant and bring it in for winter.
I came back to older videos to get more acquainted with these trees wich were unknown to me. My thing are native plants of Portugal and westernm mediterranean Europe but it does not hurt to know more about exotics. These are kindd of interesting in several aspects. Thanks for bringing it to us
Now you made me curious. Do you speak portuguese? Those are two species I have never seen, they are rare. They are shown as native but never "met" them in loco. Alcaparras (Capparis spinosa) might be seen further south in the Algarve but we do not have Crocus sativa. Of the genus Crocus we only have C. serotinus and C.carpetanus which are similar. But not in my area. I live 70 km north of Lisbon on the coast near Peniche. I have a blog and try to make a thorough survey and study of the local flora as in floresdoareal.blogspot.pt/ Anyway, maybe one day I will find them.

Okay sorry for the misunderstanding. Boswellia trees, they can take a large pot if you live in the right place. (I live in Florida, tropical climate) or you can grow in the ground with no pot. For other growers, you need light and heat water and fertilizer, for active growth. Boswellia do not like their roots disturbed, it makes them lose their leaves. Require well draining potting media. If you suspect an issue don't be afraid to look at the roots. It's okay to unpot them to look at the roots and depot them. Dormant time is best to Repot them. If your in Russia or where it gets cold, it's hard to grow. Smaller pots, lots of light and heat. Hope that helps.... 😉👍

Serrata is one species I don't have yet, I need to buy seeds for it actually, depending on the species many Boswellia growt pretty quickly I have found. B. neglecta, elongata, rivea, sacra/carteri, dioscoridis, socotrana, and nana all grow pretty fast. Hope that helps, but most grow quickly.

Both, I have started seed and bought small seedlings and rooted cuttings. They like high pH they grow in lime rocky soil depending on species.
