I have tried over and over to watch actual plays on TH-cam because I love the idea. But the group ones just never satisfy my desire to see action and mechanics. Solo plays are my jam. They fill that void. Thank you for contributing to this beautiful hobby. ❤
Thanks for watching! I finally pulled the trigger on this thing. Been playing and watching games for a long time. Thought I’d get my stories out there for people to hear.
@@AmazingAaxor I just started about three months ago, at the end of October. I also got inspired by other channels. It is great fun and has also enhanced my personal gaming fun.
I find oration a great way for me personally to get in the game, so to speak. I have hours and hours of voice recordings of me just blathering away at no one- only because it helped me get into it. I enjoy the hobby better that way too! Naturally, TH-cam offers the next iteration, so here I am.
For a test run I thought this went very well! I just got into solo roleplay last year and am loving it. Looking forward to more episodes! Liked and subbed!
Yep! Actually caught your videos on Shadowdark. Good content and inspiring. I plan on doing this TH-cam thing with whatever floats my boat - and Shadowdark is such a great system to do that right now.
Been thinking about doing this sort of channel myself so for the next bit... I'm going to follow your learning curve and thus I will learn how through you. You will be my mentor. Sound good? :) Good job on this video. If I could suggest anything, it would be to get the camera closer to the table so we could read along with you. The mic thing isn't too bad. Cheers mate.
Thx. I’ll mess around with the camera placement as I go. Not focused too much on the fiddly bits of production- as I’m likely to dive in a rabbit hole I can’t get out of! lol. For now, I’m focusing on getting my bearings and “voice” as I record myself making a fool.
Sure thing! My “main” journal is just a simple dot-grid 5”x8” journal that I use for note taking and general character stuff for the games I play. The smaller is a 4”x6” lined journal that I turned into an empty atlas for a hexmap I created. Hexmap is pasted on the front pages, with the numbered hex representing the page number of the journal. Easy to reference and update during play. I’ve realized I’m a stickler for notes. I like a procedure in my games, so note-taking is part of the hobby I like, even look forward to do! Hope that answered your question.
The camera is really good. What phone are you using to record? How does work the real time mechanics of ShadowDark (1 hour of torch) for solo play because of the journaling and oracle interpretation?
I am using the raw video/microphone from my iPhone 11 Pro. The real timer still works, but I pause it a lot while I “read the bones” and such. I’m getting myself a sand timer to immerse myself in a bit better.
The hexmap came out of a POD book called Worldbuilding Hexmaps - a gift from my wife, but it looks like it came from Amazon. The tiny green book Is 3 3/4”x 5 1/2”- very tiny. From Temu, of all places.

Shadowdark is a BLAST to solo! I've been doing it for a while and it's easy!

Cool video. I subscribed to find out where you go with this!
Thanks for the sub! I hope my future ramblings will entertain you.
Really like your notebook setup. Could you tell us a bit about your notebooks and what you’re doing with them?

Where did you get the hexmap page? and what size is the green notebook? Something compact like that looks like a good idea.

Awesome, 8 grown to 51 subs in 24 hours!
I believe someone had something to do about that. lol.
It’s great how many views you’ve had on this’
And to think it was an on-the-fly and off-the-cuff decision to press record!
@@AmazingAaxor i did that today but something tells me it won't be as successful, lol.
