The Movie grossed more than $600 million around the world, you are invited to return to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi in an all-new original musical based on the songs of ABBA. With the film’s original cast returning and new additions including Lily James (Cinderella, Baby Driver), the musical comedy will open on July 20, 2018.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical.
Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, writes and directs the sequel from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.
Reprising their roles from Mamma Mia! The Movie are Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper reunite as Sophie and Sky, while Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Oscar® winner Colin Firth return to play Sophie’s three possible dads: Sam, Bill and Harry.
As the film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present, James will play the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadway’s Beautiful). Lily James in my opinion was the star of the show. Really great voice and acting was spot on. I wasnt a big fan of the original movie but i loved this one and i have always been a fan of ABBA

Yup I like MM2 better because of Lily James. She really captured that free spirit, that innocence. In the first movie I just couldn’t buy the “I don’t know which of the 3 guys is the dad” story, and I’m not even that conservative. But this movie shows how it can happen, that Donna was a bit innocent and freewheeling, so everything just happened in the moment.
(Makes me wonder though... didn’t they use condoms, or maybe just pulled out awkwardly.)
I really feel that most abba songs are more suitable for younger people to sing.

fun fact, the storyline is that these outfits were made of curtain. In the next scene when young Donna is going to the balcony if you look at the curtains they’re cut up/have big holes and is the same pattern as their clothes (side note: I’m obsessed with her jumpsuit and want one)

Jessica's impression of Christine Baransky is spot on.
It's the wigs on Alexa Davies and Jessica Keenan Wynn. They normally don't look anything like Julie Walters and Christine Baranski. Some people have criticized that the women would have the same hairdo 20 years later, but at least it made it easy to know who was who.
I try not to worry that much about that. But they were celebs when they were the Dynamos. So maybe they re-did their hair that way every time they visited Donna.
The only thing that would have made this movie better was if Meryl (Donna) was actually alive in the storyline.

The original version was but this is nothing like it. Google the ABBA video of it dating from the 70s. This is why I hate these Mamma Mia productions. They've taken great songs and played around with them to make them fit into some stupid storyline unrelated to the meaning of the songs when they were first written. I know the ABBA guys did it themselves but it doesn't make it any better. What next? Mamma Mia 3 where the bimbo daughter gets divorced and they use all the songs from that period?

It's all pre recorded and today we cannot know if she can sing at all if it's pre-recorded. They can do anything in a music studio to make her sound good. Just saying.. In the first mamma mia movie meryl and amanda sang live in the movie itself. Meryl even stood on it for her songs to be sung and recorded live on set.
Pheew oh i know Lily and her voice here is the same.. she sings beautifully even if its not recorded you can search some footages of her singing from Cinderella to Baby Driver, War and Peace, she also sang live every day for a play last 2016 in Romeo and Juliet...her voice does'nt need to be edited because she can really sing. Benny Andersson himself said in an interview with BBC1 that Lily sings so well. ☺ and if she sang live in MM2 it would be amazing because she has the loveliest voice.

In the first film Ruby, donna’s mother, is dead, since donna says somebody up there is against her, and she says that’s probably her mother. I respect everyone's choices and will try to reword the point made above. I think what they're trying to say is that this is an experiment as there's no continuation of those feelings towards any other women. However she then goes on to have three male lovers and later marry one of those, which is more of an indication of her being straight.
From my understanding no one from these productions has indicated towards any characters preferences so it's up to everyone to make up their own minds, but the point the person above was making is that they don't feel one event defines someone's preferences but repeated choices do indicate she is straight
On one level this is a weird song. On most levels, I love it and play the Mama Mia version often. It has fantastic energy.

I agree that she can't be compared to Meryl Streep, but maybe think of this as a seperate movie, one where you don't have to compare everything to the first one. lilly is a beautiful person in her own way just like you are and everyone else, nitpicking people's "imperfections" is just outright mean and idiotic. Lilly is a perfectly healthy and talented actor and singer, again she may not compare to Meryl, but in reality who does? Mamma Mia and this sequel will always remain special for me. These 2 movies are special bond between me and my three daughters. They grow up so fast. Watching this takes me back to a special time. Especially the first one.
