- In this video we put up new fences so we can take down an old one. After 29 months we're gaining access to a part of our property that's been closed off. And after 21 days, Bella is FREE!! Also, by demand, we're taking down our Christmas Decorations.

Hi I'm Brian with Next Level Homestead. If this is your first time here... welcome! I'm glad you're here! If you're a longtime friend, welcome back!!
For most of my life I was a city boy, gardening in the suburbs. I was the first generation in my family to not grow up on a farm and somehow it was still there inside me. So now my wife Emilie, son Noah and I have moved to a small farm (at least it will be) and we're documenting our journey on this channel. Building gardens and chicken coops, buying a dairy cow and who knows what else lies in store. But we can't wait to take you with us!
(The link above is an affiliate link. If you purchase through our links we'll receive a small commission that helps support our channel, but the price remains the same, or better for you!)
The lights along the fence can be kept up all year especially the white ones. They add a nice touch of cheer.
Don't feel bad. Last year I left our Christmas decorations up all year. Or, maybe I should say, this year I decorated really really early. LOL
I think the lights should stay on Daisy’s fencing. Emily is right! It looks so sweet!
❤
I’m with Emily on this.
I think the white lights on the fence going down today's area should stay up all year around. I'm actually thinking about hanging up white icicle lights on the back of our house Is going to my garden area
You may want to dig the old fence post all the way out. They may give someone a flat tire or if someone walks barefoot out there and they start coming out of the ground they may get cut. This is coming from someone who has cut their foot on a piece of partially buried metal.
My thoughts to I done step on fence post not fun at all
Daisy chewing away should be recorded as one of those relaxation sounds people play when they can't sleep lol I love it ❤
Yesss It is ASMR!
First of all , I want to thank you for sharing your progress on your homestead. I think it is your own right to put up or take down your Christmas decor whenever you want. Life gets in the way and some things have to be put on hold like taking down decorations. Excited to see your next video.
Thank you
Daisy was so happy for that grass, she acts as if she hadn’t eaten in a good while.
She’s always hungry lol
Give me a break people. Christmas decorations get put away when you want. Poinsettias should stay out as long as possible they look beautiful.
My decorations are staying up until the family comes to visit and collect their gifts. Anybody who has a comment and keep it to themselves.
I’d probably just leave the lights on the fence permanently 🤷🏻♂️🙂 might come in handy after dark sometime 🍀
❤
Agree lights are well needed.
Hahahaha, I died laughing at the heavy sarcasm and wheelbarrow slam 🤣
😁
It’s good you walked the property with Bella. Shows her what the boundaries are.
Oh my! Watching you literally chomping at the bit to take that fence down😂😂😂😂 And what a good girl Bella. Literally stopping at her boundary and waiting for permission❤🐾❤
This was such a satisfying video! Fence up, (owner trapped) fence down! Christmas put away and now ready for the next step. Great job 👏👏
Oh thank Emily for the rescue😂
Thank you. I did 🙂
Glad you saved the big poinsettia pots - they are beautiful. When we lived in Hawaii, the neighbors across the street had a poinsettia hedge along their driveway - it was gorgeous and we always loved the blooms no matter when they showed up.
Thanks Brian. ❄️🌲💚🙃 As far as Emiles lights go, just me but they can stay up ALL year long, they light the way. ❄️🌲💚🙃
I was thinking the same thing.
I sure am glad my Mom didn't know about the "rule" of when to take Christmas trees down. Ours was up until Valentines Day most years, lol. And we LOVED it!
I’m sitting here watching you replanting your trees in short sleeves. I look outside and we are having a blizzard. Not sure how much snow we have gotten because it is blowing so hard. It is currently 11 degrees but it’s to suppose to get down to -15 over the weekend. It never take my poinsettias down til they die. I also leave my wreaths up. Leave Daisy’s lights up. I still have a few of my outdoor solar lights up. Our winters are so boring they make me happy.
Awe Emile to the rescue! ❄️🌲💚🙃
Always lol
My Christmas lights go up in early December, but don't get turned on until Christmas Eve. I keep decorations up until the 7th of January. For my family, those are the 12 days of Christmas (12/24 - 1/6).
That is your house, and you do wth you want! Keep them up all year if you want to.
So there is a story on the 12 days of Christmas?
Bella is quite the garden helper
I had to laugh at you fencing yourself in. I love that you didn’t just edit that out but included Emily coming to the rescue.
I think you could leave the lights on the fence all year. Makes for a cheerful sight just like lights on a patio do.
Word of caution, running your windshield wipers on iced windshield can wear them out. A credit card makes a great scraper in a pinch. 😊❄️
I’ve seen some people use a leaf blower to speed up the process too. 😊
Thanks!
We weren’t laughing AT you with your ice…..we were laughing WITH you😁
Ok, we were laughing at you fencing yourself in. Thanks for including that one❤
😁
LOL, Thinking about taking mine down today, so i say you are in good company!!
I just love watching Daisy eat. Both of you make me smile.
I left my Christmas Village up til June one year. Everyone that came over loved it!
Every garden is singing 🎶 a song for the ONE who made us, and we are invited to sing along!!
Great video! So cute seeing Bella wait on “her” property before invited. I was rooting for taking the fence down and it’s like a different property now! So funny about decor rules, I know them, but I break them. And you know how it’s a bit sad after all the Christmas decor comes down? I decided to create winter decor season. White lights and winter looks stay up, but Christmas (and the red things) come down. Because I like having decor up during darker days to make it festive till spring puts on its own show.
So, September gets fall decor, October Halloween is layered over fall. November reverts back to just fall. After thanksgiving fall comes down and Christmas goes up. After new year, at some point, Christmas comes down, but everything winter-y remains. It may stay up or come down for valentine day. Sometimes that gets layered on, or sometimes I’m ready for it all to come down. Ymmv.
And no news IS good news! 😊
Thank you
Now There's a baby who loves her greens !!!.. 😂😂😂❤
She does
I love your videos. I like how open you are about your vuneralities because it really helps in this media obsessed culture to add a little reality to life. You are soooo talented at so many things, yet so humble. I love that you share the imperfections on your projects and your vision for the future. My yard, front and back, is horrible right now, but you/your videos are inspiring, so I do my best and plan to do better tomorrow. You are the perfect friend (and Emily) that I may never meet in person, but love visiting. Thanks for being perfectly imperfect.
Thank you so much
Your place is becoming quite magical. And…I take down my decorations whenever I darn well please! 😂😂😂😂😂❤️
Thank you
I will never get tired of what I call "Dad sass"😂
We live in Eastern Washington., zone 6. At 5:00 am today it was -20 !!! Coldest we have seen it in the 7 years that we have lived here! Stay warm down there as we are doing up north . Have a wonderful day and Bella is the cutest sweet dog, and Daisy is adorable ❤❤❤
You know what, I have found, things always seem like they are going to be so hard. UNTIL YOU START WORKING ON THEM. I've been there so many times.
Heck, I leave my porch Christmas lights up through February. After all, the whole pagan thing about lights in winter is to convince the sun the come back. I do that faithfully every year and it comes back every time. 😉
Bella is FREE😃 Yes keeping busy is good getting Christmas decorations now that’s off your to do list. You’re enjoying ice😂😄😂😂 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽
Protect your garden space!, you are a gardener at heart.
For Daisy, the grass is like having us getting fresh vegetables from the garden.
Everything looks so good. Isn't it nice to have Bella keeping you company while you work. I love having mine with me.
I love it!
Just wanted you to know you are my all time favorite you tube channel! You have such great content and your imagination and ideas are amazing!
Wow, thank you!
Loved the video !!! It so exciting to see what's next !!! Love seeing Bella and Daisy !!!🥰
Thank you
I may or may not have left (some of) my Christmas 2022 decorations up until October 2023 🥸
Today is January 12. My outdoor decorations were put away last Sunday, my outdoor pillows were changed out from Christmas to winter themed yesterday, and my 9 ft Christmas tree is still standing proud in my living room with all the ornaments still in place. I will get to it when I get to it and I don’t care what anybody thinks about it.
For Daisy, that grass clump is an ice cream cone, I just love her!!!!
She loves her treats lol
The rule I use on taking down my Christmas decorations is; whenever I get ready.
Really enjoying your channel! No hype just being genuine.
Thank you so much
Omg! You had me laughing. You locked yourself in your own property. That was priceless! 😂
Great job Brian Bella have more place to run way to go Bella❤
Let Emily keep her lights!
Sweet Bella!!!!!
I know it feels good to have more ground, and it looks good too!!!! You are so funny about the ice. It is so common to most of us. But, you should see us in NC when we are trying to deal with more than a couple of inches of snow. Migrants from the Great White North don't understand when you tell them to just stay home until it melts, LOL.
lol. The migrants from the great white north. So funny
Taking the fence down improves the view of your property so much! I will look even better without the logs. Your demeanor is really positive and relaxed. Way to go!
Thanks
I am glad you showed your process to take down the fence.
Nice video today I’ve love poinsettia and snow on the mountain plants there are so beautiful together the white and red, are really getting rid of them ❤
Clean as you go. And you’re so funny!
😂 you are so hillarious!
Brian, when I was a child, I was helping my dad move the older calves from one paddock to another. I was playing with one of them as we were walking them over. I stopped abruptly in front of one of them several times. Apparently, she didn't appreciate that a bit me hard on my back. Cows do bite!!! I had a nice set of bruises for a few days!
Oh wow!
Love the sound of Daisy chomping on the grass. Reminds me of when my dog eats lettuce leaves (which she LOVES!). So entertaining!
Ohhh I tried to give my dogs lettuce leaves and they did not like it. They love brassica stems though, so I always cut the stems from broccoli and cauliflower for them. Hubby has to compete with them for the pieces. They also hate tomatoes but love apples, carrots, rice, eggs, plums haha. They are very silly.
We are up to 14 inches of snow for today. It looks so warm where you are.
I leave my Christmas lights longer!!
I don't like how sad it all looks after all the Xmas lights go down and DO NOT care what the neighbors think. I leave mine, I like it, love it, and though 😂😂😂❤🎄
I have a friend that leaves her Christmas up all year around Ladder worked. Lol. Love seeing the progress you’re making. Blessings❤️🌺
Thank you
Geez, the lights are yours take em down or leave em up whenever you want!
All the new sniff spots!! She's in heaven! Actually, the lights on the fence look great! Keep them.
Emilie wants to so I think we will 😁
You have been awesome in this waiting processes. You have to know what a blessing you are in some many of our lives. We get to live vicariously through you and because your kind and so genuine it makes us better people. That is a special gift of yours!
Thank you so much!
LOL on the Christmas decorations deadlines. I take down all the stuff people can see outside, drag it just inside the front door, and that’s where it sits until we get around to boxing it all back up. The totes will go back to the attic before February, I promise.😂
Don't sweat the decorations. I bought lights that are programmable. And change colors to work with the season. Did folks actually complain about decorations? If so, that is crazy. Some folks have no life. Glad you're able to not focus on the you know what 😉 I'm excited for spring. Happy New Year!
Thank you
Bella and Daisy were so darn cute! Lots of progress happening and so glad you're keeping a positive attitude waiting on your test results! 😊
Thank you!!
Can’t believe you do all your outdoor projects without wearing gloves!! Tough and determined homesteader I must say.
Thanks! Usually it’s because I can’t find them lol
We should al send you garden gloves, you could clip them on the fence along with the decorating lights to have a constant supply. Keeping track of my gardening stuff is a constant battle. I have two DILs, lovely women for sure, who keep such orderly homes that I cringe at the idea of them coming to my home. Oh that garden glove on the back of my toilet? Yeah, meant to leave it there! 🤔 🧤
Ahhhh ha ha ha ha ha! The lights!! People leave this guy alone about his lights already! I loved the doubled up wreath on either side of the gate. Great idea! Yeah, keep the poinsettias. The draped garland over daisys bed area was so cute. great idea, I think I need to make something like that. Im thinking of you, and praying for ya’alls safety during the weekend storm coming. ❤
Yay on getting the fence down! You & Emily sure do have your own shangri-la there!
I think you mean Emilie.☺️
@@debbyd5729 Thanks! Will make correction!
I hope that you will be saving those metal pipes from the old chain-link fence. I kept the fence pipes when we replaced our old chain-link fence with a vinyl bar fence. (BTW, It was our neighbour's idea. Not mine.) Four of those long pipes and three sections of our old TV antenna tower made a very durable frame for two large trellises. Now, I grow my pole beans on one frame and undetermined tomatoes on the other frame. I enjoyed watching Daisy chomping on the fresh grass clump. It was nice to see Bella respecting the old boundary and then, once she got your permission, exploring the new territory.
Thank you!
Nice work! Loving the wide open space. Bella is going to ask for a raise guarding all that new "territory." Daisy appears to be finding those grass plugs
lip smacking good. White lights are a symbol of hospitality. Please keep the cheer factor going.
Frost clothe can be held in place with light clothes pins. Attach edges to firm plant stems or pop in bamboo stakes.
Thank you
Thanks again for your video's , always so informative and interesting!
Second comment to say I still have my inside christmas decorations up and I intend to leave them out until the end of the month! Central Ohio is gloomy and sunless most of the winter and the christmas treenlights liven the house. You do YOU i say, so I do me.
Mom always took our decorations down on January 1. WHO CARES HOW LONG THEY ARE UP. It is up to you. Thanks. Love all the videos.
Thank you!
Oh my...l hit the jackpot.Brian and Joey Tribiani on the same video. LOL
🤣
Happy to see you happy.
I feel like you can breathe deeper and stretch further with the fence down. I wager you won't regret the decision. Like you said, you can always put something back up. Woohoo!
since you seem to be here right now.....I had an off-topic comment.....Years ago I grew amazing hot pepper plants in my greenhouse on a self-watering mat, like the ones you use for your starts now. And the peppers were plentiful! Even though I live in Ontario, where it's a short season. But when harvested they had NO heat! And I wonder about your watermelon issues and if it's because of the drip irrigation giving it too much hydration and 'watering down' the flavour?
You take down decorations when YOU'RE ready. Never mind the meddlesome folks that tell you this or that. Great job on the fence, too :) Daisy eating grass was adorable.
Thank you
No you don't!!! You do what you want on your property! I still have my tree up and I am debating if I am taking out at all! So buttom line, Brian ...you do you! If you want christmas all year , you can! Love and hugs!
Thank you 😊
I love your humor during your growing episodes..keep it up much appreciated..9:09 a.m
Thanks, will do!
Great video, as always.
Thanks!
Oh yes. Keep the white lights up along the fence all year!
Traditionally, yes, the 6th but you can leave your decorations up as long as you want!! Would like to see the lights up year round. 😂
Brian the Christmas decorations can stay on all year if you want!! Your home! I will say your fascination with the ice is so cute. Emily is right as usual about the lights. I think they should just stay! I'm glad Bella is now free and y'all don't have to worry about babies!
You should take all the logs from along the old fence and any other scrap wood , like pallets, make a pile and offer for free pickup! I'm sure someone would like some free firewood!
Doing great Brian and Emillee! You figured it out with the fencing! Daises is a character ❤
Thank you
I leave my white lights up all the time.
They are your Christmas decorations and it is totally your choice when to remove them. We left our tree up one year until sometime in April. It was in a cool room and did not have electric lights. I usually leave the greenery on the door until it starts dropping needles if it is real. It is purely a personal choice. No one should be fussing at you about when you take care of it. They have bad manors.
Grew up in san marcos, i now live in eastern Oregon it will be 2 degrees tonight. And I still get excited when I wake up to snow 😊
This was really funny! The editing was great…especially the part about the Christmas decorations.
Glad you liked it!!
It's been so cold and rainy we haven put away our outside Christmas decorations yet. But the only excuse i have for not doing the inside ones and tree yet is procrastination and gloomy weather doesn't motivate me much. Good to see you're getting things done though 😊 y'all have a beautiful place ❤️
Thank you
Ditto you on me painting my porch to the tune of locking myself out of my front door a few years back...LOL 😅😂😅
You've been awesome!!
Thank you
😊😢😂😂 you are so funny.
I had to laugh WITH YOU when you were stuck on the other side of the fence.
Thank you 😆
Haha! As I look over at my still decorated Christmas tree! It's on my list...
I think you should leave the lights leading to Daisy’s barn up all year. Festive.
You are in my prayers so please keep us in the loop.
Thank you
Bella Bella Bella all the hearts 💕❤️💕😻😘 my precious girl xxx
I’m glad you find finding ice amusing. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and we are currently experiencing -46C windchill
Sounding a bit sarcastic there.
Yes especially since he can grow tropical plants outside in California. And then see ice form. Shows us some hardiness of the tropical plants there.
Oh wow!
Most girls like flower bouquets, but Daisy’s just fine grass bouquets.😂❤
I am amazed at the amount of work you get done. I have total confidence you could have climbed/jumped that fence. (My dogs used to go for the grill bucket too, such a mess).
Hello, you got so much done! I understand about the cold weather. Here in Vancouver, the temp is -13 with the wind -21 and that never ever happens here! I have frost on my patio doors. It is nice and sunny but chilly! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! You too!
You take them down whenever you feel like. I've had mine up until Valentines day in the past.
