What a misleading video. I want to mold complicated statues, not squares.
+Cartoon Wootie look up 2 part molds
usernamedkjah i figured that's what the person was looking for. Im not sure though it was from last year.
what kind of mould would this be in the thumbnail? it would have to be 2 pieces no?
The models in the thumbnail would require multiple part moulds. They would also need to be taken apart in some cases as the shapes and undercuts are too complicated to be moulded as one piece.
@@sumguy52 hi, can you help me mold an eagle with outstretched wings?
really, how right you r
So the thumbnail is just a click-bait. So disappointing.
Why would you show us how to mold a simple rectangle? I need help on how to mold a complex piece just like the ones you showed in the beginning of the video.
This guy is hard core. He pulled that out of the oven with no gloves!
Damn maaan! I don't want to mold a chocolate square. I want to mold COMPLEX FIGURES!!!!
This video is so disapointing :(
I just watched this for the second time and realized he wasn't wearing oven mitts when removing the mold from the oven.
legal
Anyone with that much skill must be immune to fire.
Alguien hablar portugues?
This guy makes a good vid. I like his style. Reminds me of the first Bre Petis "Make" video I watched a few back. Some of you Makers got a good way with the how-to video stuff. Nice work.
thanks. Just the basics and all I needed.
First good make video in a while. And it's not just good, it's grade A makery.
If he put that make bar on the thumbnail nobody would have clicked it.
Jason here... The other sculptures were all cast in multiple parts, some of these had 22 parts like the Troll Hunter, which is crazy. Now that I have learned some things, I could have made half the molds but yeah, undercuts will sometimes dictate how many pieces you need to mold separately. This tutorial is really for beginning molds, you will have to do more complex mold making for more complex things. Stay tuned, I'm doing a huge monster build with complete mold making tutorials...Stay tuned!
Ok, but how can you take mold from a complex sculpture?
Nicu Alina Daniela I just want to know how did he make that sculpture that got us checking out this video? Anyone knows?
You can do a two piece mold with silicone putty too, although it's a bit harder. I am going to do that in a future video, but this is the most basic mold making. In the meantime, search youtube for "Amazing Mold Putty - 2 piece mold", that basically shows you how.
OK but I need a tutorial on how to make a mold from a action figure like super sculpey sculpture. like with complicated bldg parts and such.
yep looking for the answer too.
This is exactly what this stuff is great for. In fact, Smooth-On shows that very thing on their site displaying what this putty can do.
Hi, I have a question. How can I make a mold from a aprox 12-16" complex pose figure without cut it in parts?
I thought about two parts but it will not match later, thanks. Lot
cool vid hope to see more
All right, thank you very much! I'll give this mould making a go.
3:50 He resists all heat!
Nice clear tutorial ! One question I have : I need to make a mold from a highly detailed carved varnished wood face. Will the silicone putty you use damage the wood surface in any way ??? If so, is there a product that would protect the wood surface during the molding process ??? Thanking you in advance !
Yes, silicone putties and RTV products can somewhat damage or soak into wood or other porous subjects. To avoid this one can seal the wood with any number of coatings (varnish, polyurethane, etc). There are a number of spray and liquid "release agents" that help seal porous subjects and facilitate mold release. It should also be mentioned that two-part, pourable silicones are often more suitable for complex molds (tho a two or 3 part mold might be needed), and are available from companies like Smooth On, Silicones Inc, and GT products.
There are bronze and other metal powders you can add to resin when casting.
this was an amazing video
Good intro to mold making. :) Note: you can use a lot less mold-making material for the mold. A 1/4" is fine, especially if you are casting resin or something pourable into the mold.
One tip - smooth out the putty before you press the original item in - I roll it in my hands or on the table. This makes a blemish free mold.
Mr. Babler is not kidding about the safety precautions when using resins. It is nasty stuff and sticks tenaciously to *everything*, even before it is mixed and cured.
ALL HAIL NEW KIPKAY!
Neat! Is there a way to make a clear/transparent cast? Or is resin always white?
Im excited to see more :)
Hi could you do a video on how to do the big sculptures? Im doing big sculpts and complicated ones to mold- just like your middle sculpt at the start :) What material you use there? Would be really helpfull thanks
Pretty cool Azmodan statue.
Could you use this putty to make a crude 2-part mold?
I'd really like the mold a plastic naginata-blade, but I don't have a maker-space nearby, nor do I have $300+ (or square footage) to buy/store my own vacuum chamber. Could you use this putty to make the 1st part of the mold, then press more putty against it for the second part?
Holy jesus!!! He looks just like kipkay!
I am trying to picture how to go about molding a quadruped. (Horse, whatever) Seems legs would be fully immersed in one side of a two-sided mold and I am not sure how that works...
Any tips?
Hey, i have somewhat of a similar question. I've got these baroque-style plaster castings that are used to decorate the brackets of bookshelves. I got two from an antique store, but i'd like to reproduce them. I've already obtained fine grade plaster, but i'm not sure how and what i should make the mold with. Is this methode you've shown usable for my situation as well? The dimensions are roughly 8 x 6 x4 (height - width - dept).
Thanks a lot in advance!
i wanna ask something,in production of action figure, are we have to paint the same model one by one??,or just need 1 painted model
@makemagazine with this resin , could I put metal shavings in it to give a shiny effect for a background for a clock I want to build?
and here i thought i would be watching how to cast those big-ass sculptures, not fucking chocolate bars. there wouldn't be an issue were the video titled correctly, but i just wasted four minutes because it wasn't....
The video is titled correctly. Its says SIMPLE mold-making.
that's why everyone watched this video, to see exactly how this complex sculpture would be 'simple.' call it what you will, but it was most assuredly deceptively 'advertised.'
ryan barker is a bitch
What would I need to do to make a mold for a marble statue, but the mold had to be strong enough to cast molten aluminum? And would it still have the same detail work ad the marble statue?
Hudson Hornet I hope you get your answer because this is what im trying to find out. the closes i've got is the lost wax mold making art. but for detail work from stone i'm still looking.
You are very talented sir
Good to know
My favorite part was pulling the mold from the oven without gloves. Those must be some mighty calloused hands you have there. haha
Good vid
That mold seemed a little thick, is there any way to make a cleaner and less bulky one or will i have a problem with ripping and warping?
My question would be what about sculptures that are a bit fragile to be pressing into silicone?
That was delicious!
is ther a liquid placist mixing thing that would could make coppys with?
This viedo is cool I like modeling and technology and adventure in your next viedo could you make a compass
so good
I want to make a copy of a game figure but i i need more info about this! How can i make it? Do i need liquid silicone?
Freakin impressive!
pretty cool bro!
ok, thank you.
where can i buy that chemical components silicon and instacast(a + b) etc are spezials for elektronicstuf mold? (germany)
real cool
hey, does any of you guys know, if dried resin is:
1. foodsafe?
2. freezersafe?
i planned on making molds for ice'cubes' out of cured resin but i'm not sure..
i don't think silicon puddy would be good for this project, since it's kinda sloppy and i wanted to have a lid- and a bottompart.
Do you know where i can buy that silicon-stuff in germany?
100% silicone caulk with cornstarch or mixed in a bucket of soapy water makes similar material for molding
He does the world of warcraft stuff!?!?! I saw the troll figure. AWESOME :D
please show us how you make your model creatures? Itd be great if you could.
how can i seal the paint in a rasin figure?
hi, where do i get resin?
Great video, but I AM QUTIE CURIOUS ! ....~how much is the price to all the project that you did in the video ...the bot bar thing ^___^ ?
I am eating now.
you should use pourable silicon so as to not smudge the detail of your sculpt.
the thing is that I can't get these wonderful products from hong kong, they really should set up a distributor to sell these stuffs man...
could you mix some glow in the dark pigment? how can you make it glow in the dark?
My only negativity about the video is advice on dealing with more three dimensional objects... what if i had a toy or model i wanted to cast? What would e the best way get it out safely without damaging the mold or the figure? I'm sure the answer would run along the lines of "cut the mold into sections to get it out, then carefully secure it before filling' buuut i dont think that's everything to it...
Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive watch anything like this before. So nice to seek out any individual with some unique ideas on this subject. realy thank you for starting this up. this youtube video is something that is wanted on the net, someone with slightly originality. useful job for bringing something new to the youtube!
This sucks on an ehow level, and that is powerful suckage.
Cool
at first I was only listening the videos and I thought that he was kipkay XD
Jason, you are a "Creative" director, but you teaching us how to cast blocks? HR should review you again.
hey guys what about mask making with clay and making resin copies?
best you try your local resin shop
I'm doing airsoft and I need more than one magazine, can you help me make a mold of the pistol magazine by making a tutorial. I'd really appreciate it, thanks.
Azmodan!!!
i hate your videos........... but only because it's almost 2 am and i got to be up soon but cant stop watching.
Everyone complaining that he isn’t teaching u how to do complex items dude it’s literally the same process
That was not what I expected 😏
Oh well.....where is the figure mold??
Great, guy makes his own clay sculpts, but shows us how to mold and cast something that's not a clay sculpt? Good game, sir.
SlayerrFoxx225
Except it isn't.
I, like everyone else, was only watching this to see how complex and more delicate sculptures are molded. Deep details like mouths and thinner sections like a cape or other fabric...not a basic square mold. Has anyone found anything that's of actual use?
fire proof hands
Surely liquid silicone is better to get the details, even on that simple shape you did the 1st mold had a defect
sounds kinda like him too
Mmmm, chocolate
One important clarification. The demonstrator says the "fumes are not bad." They ARE bad. They are quite toxic, and known to cause cancer in lab animals. Even with "ventilation" one can inhale dangerous amounts of toxic gases, so do the casting outside if possible, or use lots of ventilation and a resporator. Moreover, both parts of the liquid resin are toxic, and anything that comes into contact with them should be kept away from all food or surfaces used for food prep. Likewise, if it contacts bear skin, wash it thoroughly with soap and water ASAP. By the way, for anyone who works with those sprayers that dispense urethane foam as packing material, void fillers, or insullation. Those too give off toxic fumes. Safety first!
To make sure no one misunderstands, the fumes I was referring to involve the resin casting, not the silicone putty. However, the putty has potentially dangerous chemicals (before it cures) that can absorb into skin, which is why it is important to wear protective gloves while mixing the putty.
Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated.
THANK YOU SOON MUCH!!!!
Can you make a project using Android? Or even Linux, as you want xD
i think resin will toxify the ice
He looks kinda like kipkay
A more advanced way would be preferable that does not require silicone putty. But please note that the methods used are much much harder than what is described here.
ERMAHGERD BABLER
10628364686th POST!
Oh, wait. I think I'm a bit too early.
Are by somehow related to kipkay??hahahaha
not first!
maybe his brother :p
during the summer, get some bread and leave it out on the counter for a week and voila...mold.
easy peasy...organic bread works best : )
oh mould making : (
lol i misread your name in the title as justin bieber
I guess not many of you cook because when you stick a pan in a hot oven then pull it out later with no hand protection, you're going to have a bad time.
who thought it was justin beiber not jason babler
At first I read Justin Beiber...
