Aw, thank you! I'm glad you like the artwork! TLRs are such unusual cameras. You might see an old Rolleiflex in a movie, which are also TLRs, but Mamiyas are much more pragmatic cameras and don't look quite so nostalgic. Fantastic interchangeable lenses, bellows for focus, that sort of thing. There are also a couple of videos about my Mamiya Press on the channel. That one looks even more unusual. It's a vertical shaped body which is so rare for camera design and you can have several backs and switch film mid shoot. I love Mamiyas. All really heavy, but worth it for the image quality and flexibility.

@@LillySchwartz I haven't in a while, film and chemistry was getting difficult to find. But I might have to see if I can locate some.
@@BrianFields Buying online is the way to go with this sort of thing, although some developers are of course only permitted for ground shipping. Film prices have gone up a lot though. I hadn't bought any film in like two years and had a bit of a horror moment when I saw how expensive colour film has become. Oh my! Luckily about 2/3 of my rolls are black and white, so it isn't quite that dramatic for my needs.

It's such a different way of taking pictures, I love it! I'm glad you like my profile picture. It's a self portrait from quite a few years ago already.
Always good to go back over old photos to see what you did and to remember about what was going on at the time. Puts some perspective on what is happening in the present. Hopefully, everything has moved on and things have gotten better! I haven't gone back out to shoot for a few weeks. Haven't been feeling the best, so I've let my pics take a back seat, although I should get out and do some more. Might help! I've also gotten back into doing some art, mainly drawing and painting.I'm like you, I'm not that big into portraiture, more of a landscape and nature photographer, with some street thrown in for a bit of good measure. It's the same with art, although I'm trying to improve on my portraits here. It's slow progress!!! Most of my drawings still look like the people in them look somewhat psycho!!! Anyway, I went out shooting with my Zeiss Ikon Nettar, took mostly colour film with me. Shot some newish Kodak Gold 200 and some expired film. That was mainly Velvia 50. Don't know how they'll turn out but I suspect that it's mainly going to be underexposed and some will be out of focus because I hadn't used the camera for awhile and sometimes I forgot to allow for the distance to what I was taking and didn't change the distance dial on the lens! Going to have to send the film off to get processed soon as I'd like to see the results.
Oh, Zeiss. Yes, those Zeiss lenses are always beautiful. Luckily my Zeiss Super Ikonta has a rangefinder so I'm less likely to forget changing the distance! Sorry to hear that you're not feeling too well. In my experience getting out of the house tends to help, at least for my kind of ailments. I've been really busy shooting this month, playing with a new camera that I'll show on the channel soon. I haven't drawn in ages, I should really practice more, but with the photography, the music and the videos I'm busy enough at the minute. Only 24h in the day. I'm currently working through a bit of a backlog myself on the film front so I'm trying not to shoot that much film so that I can catch up. Today it was a roll of Double-X I edited and tomorrow I'll probably develop some more of the stuff.
Nice video, I enjoy the darker slightly creepy wooldland look. I picked up a 65mm for my Mamiya from Japan but it suffers quite a bit from internal haze. Eventually found a 55mm locally and it's a much nicer lens to work with. Plus I like the slightly wider field of view. I hear many of the 65mm lenses suffer from internal haze on elements. Something to be aware of.
Creepy it’s where it’s at for me 😂 thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I’ll definitely look out for a 55mm then. That was the one I was eyeing anyway. 65mm is great for 6x7, but I think for 6x6 it’s not quite wide enough.

Oh, here it’s about 8pm, just settling down now after going for a photo walk earlier. The photography videos were the reason why I started writing music again, always like to keep it soothing for these.

A C220 been in my sights for a while. Seem to find them at great prices fairly easily.
Go for it before people realise that the image quality is on par with a really expensive Rolleiflex at much lower prices 😅 it’s a workhorse. Heavy but wonderful!
I love your photos of nature. There is always so much to see. The pine cones looked like the backs of animals breaking the surface of the earth like whales in the ocean.

I really like the photos that look like openings or gateways too. Makes me wonder what is in there.
I’m fascinated by holes in the ground or paths where the forest makes a tunnel. So mysterious! Can’t help taking those kinds of pictures!
The idea of different worlds has fascinated me since I was a child. Mystery and magic.
Totally an Alice in wonderland kind of experience. I guess that’s one reason why I keep exploring the forests. Still waiting to stumble upon that magical portal into another realm!
I quite enjoy shooting the mamiya. The 330 is a bit heavier, I don’t notice the weight much until I switch to a lighter camera in my case yashicamat. After the switch you feel like you are not carrying a camera at all and feel much more freedom of movement.
The weight was the reason why I was interested in the Mamiya C220 over the Mamiya C330. Even before my friend gave me this camera I passed on a couple of C330s because I thought I wouldn't use it as much. The Mamiya Press is like that for me. Getting it off my neck is always a relief. I love the results, but the weight is definitely on the problematic side. I don't enjoy carrying my camera in a backpack though because then I have more of a barrier taking pictures and will just not bother with it with compositions I'm not sure about.
I love your multi-exposure composite photos. I picked up a Nons SL660 a few years ago, but haven’t really used it. One of its features is the ability to expose a frame of Fuji Instax square film as many times as you like. This video has me thinking about the possibilities. Time to get into (Instax) film? 🤔📷🤩
Aw, thank you! That looks like such an interesting piece of kit! I tend to faff about with loading instax into my film backs and then developing them in one of my instax cameras because I just don’t like how my instax camera handle too much. The film is really cool though, sharp with great colours and I recently got an instax wide printer which is super fun. Now I pick a picture from each day of shooting to print and it’s turning into a nice collection of images. I think if you have such a nice instax camera, that would be a really nice project for it!
I really like the composite pictures you made. Do you have a video on how you create them? I first watched your channel in the pandemic and am only now subscribing, I also procrastinate lol!
I’m glad you enjoy them! I think there is a bit about those pictures in my last studio vlog about releasing my album hypnagogia? And perhaps also in the video about the album itself. I made them for cover art and as part of the liner notes. I will definitely make a dedicated video at some point going into the different techniques I use for composites like that.
Perfect timing for the procrastination to end then because I’m just starting to come out of a longish photography break 😀

All good, it really cracked me up 😂 reminded me also of this joke that cats don’t have owners, they have staff? Considering that this camera will probably outlive me, I do feel like I’m just taking care of it for a while. My oldest camera is from somewhere between 80 and 100 years old by now, the Zeiss Super Ikonta C. Still works and takes great pictures!
You have to be careful that you don't go full Vivian Maier with your backlog of undeveloped film 😉 I once shot my C33 from a wooden bridge and I thought I shot right through the rails but due to parallax I had the lower rail in the pic. Things happen🤣
Totally a risk with the backlog 😂 I’ve been shooting a bit of digital lately to help myself catch up with it. Nothing like my huge backlog from 2019 though when I had 130+ rolls of undeveloped film. I learned from that mistake 😹 ohh, that parallax composition error 😅I once tried to take a picture of a bumblebee and that was a parallax failure too, oops.

That Mamiya is my favorite camera as well. In fact, in the last video you made (1000 rolls) about the C220, I wrote you a comment to hint at a video I had made with photos from my C220. In 2021 I made a new one in the style of the former one, with some self composed piano music as well. It is called "Mamiya C220 in 2021" if you want to see what I have done with the camera since then :).

I shot another roll with the Mamiya in nature again a few months ago, so there will probably be another video about that at some point. Such a lovely camera!
@@LillySchwartz It really is a great camera. The one I have was purchased by my father in the 1970s before I was born. So it has quite an affection value for me. Right now I am trying to complete a portrait series of strangers I meet - soon I will have reached the 100 mark, which is my goal :).
Please do show more of your work with the Mamiya - it is very interesting to see what you create with it.
Oh, if you can get hold of the 55mm f/4.5, I can highly recommend it. That is the widest lens produced for this series.
@ulrikchristiansen oh, it’s in your family heritage, that’s always nice! My mum had a Lubitel, but it was full of fungus and very broken. And then it fell off the table 🙄 I should probably replace it, but I’m much more likely to use the Mamiya and the Rolleicord.
Your 100 strangers portrait project sounds great. I’ve been meaning to do that myself, but I do it too infrequently to reach 100 anytime soon. Maybe one day I’ll make it a priority. I’ve been looking at the 55mm, but sadly I never find any in good shape in Europe when I’m looking for a new lens. But then the other day I found a Canon LTM lens I’ve been covering for ages, so sometimes Japanese stuff shows up in Europe too. Fingers crossed I’ll get that 55mm soon. The next time I make a Mamiya video I’ll show some shots from the archive I think. I think I once shot a pretty spectacular roll of slide film with it if I remember correctly.

I have a new direction in my photography, I use 5x7 land cameras from 1900's with brass lenses (ca 1890) with glass plates. It's so fun.
Oh, I’m so glad you like my work, Chris! My hypnagogia work came as a bit of a new direction too, in 2017, after shooting mainly street for 5 years. That’s when I bought my Speed Graphic too. 5x7 on glass plates sounds so amazing, especially with such old lenses! I normally shoot projection lenses on mine, very fast aperture. It’s really fun too!

I’m talking about something like the Leica Hektor 250mm f/2.8 for old medium format projectors. I have two of these and they swirl quite nicely too. I love swirls myself! My Nokton 50mm f/1.1 swirls too. Big fan of quirky bokeh!
Same procrastination with development ;) Recently I developed a film from 2014!

you start with a wider lense, then thne 180mm, then the profinder, and then the handgrip..... this camera can be very fun at customizing;-)
Handgrip! I didn’t know that existed. I have one for my Mamiya Press which is cool but heavy AF. Definitely need to get myself that wider lens!

I have the two bodies for the system, Super 23 and the Universal Press. That Super 23 body was really cheap, because it was body only and a little dinged up. Works just fine though! There are some older vids on the channel about the Press! If only it wasn’t so heavy!
Lilly, I was just gifted one with 3 lenses. And some rolls of 120 film. I might need a how-to video.

And this one also shows how to change the lens which had me stumped when I was shooting the b-roll for my own video. th-cam.com/video/N0wl4GfwpQk/w-d-xo.html Since I only have one lens I never had to do it before. Oh and a little tip: If you want to test the shutter without a roll loaded, you twist the lil dial from single to multi, but don't forget to put it back or you'll be making double-exposures when you're shooting your first roll. Been there, done that. 😀
@@LillySchwartz I actually have a user manual too. The lenses I have are the 80mm 2.8, 180mm, and 105. And I have a second viewfinder.
@@LillySchwartz I need to figure out how to meter with it. I have a sekonic light meter. And I normally shoot in studio.
That’s a very nice set and a manual too, very cool. You’ll be fine then. Metering is basically just figuring out the flash sync speed for studio work if you use strobes. I use continuous lights so I really don’t have to bother with that. My gossen light meter is very simple, works like any old light meter with a dial to set for speed and aperture.
Great camera, though (as you say) quite bulky. Beside the 80mm, I have a 55mm f4.5 and a 180mm f4.5. ←That one is a beast and seriously screws with the balance of the whole thing, but how can you not want to have a telephoto lens as well, right?
A 55mm or 65mm in good condition will probably cost you ¥25,000~30,000 ($150~190) here in Japan.
I can't even really imagine what it's like to shoot with such a long lens on this camera! One day I'd love to try, but the 55mm is definitely a priority for me. I'm still hoping to find it in Europe perhaps so that I don't have to add import tax to the cost, but the wide angle lenses are much less common around here. One day it will happen for sure!
