I like this video a lot: it's enjoyable as always, and I could relate to so many things! Also my "new" record player (I have it for 5 years now) has no auto-stop, and that really surprised me badly (even my old Lenco dj turntable had that, but stupidly I gave that away decades ago). Now I got used to it. I'm also using BT transceivers to connect my analog audio to the digital world. This video inspired me to spend more time again with all my vinyls as soon as I'm back home - working 220 km from home for most of the week. When I was young, having a decent stereo was a must-have, and I mean stereo verbally. I bought one from my first income from internships. Nowadays the kids and youngsters seem to be happy with just their smartphones for listening to music - no sense for sound quality, I guess. I'll keep on watching your videos, always very relaxing and grounding 😃, thank you 🙏
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I do that too whenever someone shows records on a video. I also end up reading the book titles if someone films in front of a book shelf 😅 if you’re interested in something particular I can recommend more stuff too!
You like Doisneau, one of my favorites, you're on another level with this video; cameras, tapes, records. 15:38, lol, anti skating mechanism. I wasnt a believer in anti skating until I played the Highway to Hell album and was about to return it because it skipped, that little metal ball on string fixed the problem.
😂 I even write on paper. Analog things are fun. Anti skating technology is a life saver! I have one record that used to drive me nuts on my old record player because it skipped. On the new one it plays just fine!
The love of music is the joy that keeps giving.. As someone who lived through crackly vinyl then wowing and fluttering cassette, the advent of CD quality was life altering and I certainly wouldn't want to go back! But I'm so happy that you have found enjoyment in it and it's wonderful that the older technologies are kept alive much the same as analogue photography. A great video to watch ..again!
You’re obviously right about the flaws of the analog media, but for me it makes all the difference. CDs sound so clinical, it’s a tad too good. I also work with tape a lot when I’m making my own music and there is just nothing quite like it for warmth. I don’t know. Objectively it should be better, just like digital images often are sharper and have more detail contrast. Something gets lost with too much perfection, I guess? And then there is the big album cover. There is just something about the whole experience of it that feels more deeply connected to the music. All that being said, I do listen with the Bluetooth a lot too, so it really depends on the mood and whatever I bought recently. I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😀
@@LillySchwartz I do agree about the album cover art. Some great artwork appeared on album covers which lose so much on CD (the cases are so fragile too) and Compact Cassette cases and printing were just such cheap quality (most pre-recorded tapes were also terrible!) I think there is an argument to be made for perceived sound quality differences between analogue and digital but my main gripe is crackles and scratches on records and on going wear ☹️
I totally get it, the crackles can be distracting. I think they add to the experience though. I don’t know what it is, I shouldn’t like it more when the quality is less pristine. There is a certain level of nostalgia in it, and you also concentrate on the music more. Putting on a record is more like a little event, I’m less likely to just have some random thing playing in the background. As for wear: That’s definitely an issue, but it also prevents me from listening something to death like I sometimes used to do with digital stuff. All in all it’s less about the quality of the recording, and more about the quality of the experience? It’s a strange phenomenon.
@@LillySchwartz I really do agree about the whole 'event' thing. Listening to music is now a 'casual commodity' that you can do anywhere and anytime and obtaining the music is also effortless. Although this allows you to hear a larger quantity and more varied music I'm not sure you appreciate it so much and so it's easier to ignore and forget!
Music nowadays has so little staying power. A hit today is forgotten by tomorrow because it’s all internet trends? I don’t really want my listeners to engage with my music like that, so I focus on bandcamp. Fewer listeners, but those who do listen are far more engaged? Quality over quantity so to speak. And that’s also how I tend to consume music. I don’t want always new music, but like to stay with two or three records for a month or two. I could find something new to listen to every day, but I prefer to engage with the music I listen to on a deeper level than that.
LOL, I thought the same thing with record players as you. I wanted a fully automatic turntable and ended up buying a newly serviced, very well-maintained Technics SL M3, which also has an auto repeat function, cueing, automatic start, and automatic start. If I can make a suggestion, the best item for the price I bought which made a huge difference in my studio was a Umik1 using REW software. Is a fun project making convolution filters.
I kinda like that my Essential is bare-bones, but it’s so strange that the trend has gone away from all the automatic stuff. I guess people who listen to vinyl nowadays want to be reminded of the ritual of putting on a record. Thank you for your suggestion! I actually have a sound ID reference microphone which I want to use with REW. It’s one of those projects that I keep postponing, because I always have other stuff to do and have a pretty decent workflow with a combination of headphones and all the speakers in the house. I will get to it eventually though!
Wish I had a space like that, but our house here is way too small and not really set out to have a space like that. I really need to get a darkroom setup soon as I have a backlog of film that really needs processing!! Looks like I'll have to win the lotto and buy a new place!!😊😊 How's the darkroom coming along at your place? Although, with those problems you've just had I can imagine it'll be on the back burner, again. I have a record player here at home, but like everything else it's finding the space to set it up that keeps it gathering dust!! But, I'm glad you have your place setup and running well. Nothing better than having your own little corner you can go to and just chill out in!😊
I’m sorry to hear that you’re limited by space. I definitely know what that’s like. 8 years in a small room makes this space seem like a palace. The darkroom is still on the back burner while my husband finishes the front room, but I have it set up for developing film already. I’ll make a video about that soonish after I develop some colour there and know what’s what. I have a bit of a backlog too, but it isn’t so bad yet. The space isn’t the problem now, I just need to get on with it. Tons of stuff to do though related to music though, so I’m still working on that!
It's the Wavebone Headquarter Studio desk. I wouldn't get it in black again though, because it scratches super easily. That's why I have desk mats on it to protect it from sharp edged synths. Other than that it's pretty cool though.
My work has been shown in exhibitions on three continents and has been published on four 🤷♀️ I’m way beyond any need to prove my eye to anyone. You’re right though, I don’t do commercial photography because that’s for people who like to get underpaid for extremely stressful jobs. But hey, feel free to watch videos from people who spend 90% of their time photoshopping electric outlets out of their real estate pictures. Oh wait, that’s right. They don’t have time to make videos because they have to hustle even to make rent because commercial photographers are so underpaid 🙄 In case the message got lost in the sarcasm: Professional photography isn’t necessarily commercial photography, especially not in the for exposure economy. I’m in the lucky position that I don’t have to take mind numbingly boring commercial work to pay the bills. Boy, I sure wish my photography was a hobby, then I wouldn’t have my self-worth all tied up in my artistic success while a global pandemic makes it next to impossible for me to produce new work 🫠 If only life as an artist was as simple as your naive comment makes it out to be 😂
Your voice with your background music, it's pure ASMR 😌
😁 I’m glad you enjoy it. Definitely unintentional ASMR 😂
20:13; awesome.
Du bist wirklich ein Vorbild 😊 Mach bitte weiter so

Thank you for this. Must confess to pausing the video in order to make a note of some the records you showed. Always keen to listen to new things...

Killer new studio Lilly! Love your passion for all things creative and DIY!
Thanks Thomas! I love my new studio. So much better than the old one! Finally I have space for all the stuff I do! 😀
Thankyou , looks super.
After seeing your "Spike the male model" T. shirt, I've had Once More With Feeling on endless repeat.
Oh, that was a good one! ✨

Awesome place!! So cool and cozy... A dream, to have so much room for all the stuff... 😍😍

@@LillySchwartz yes the music setup .. with hardware synthesizers 👍😀
