You can turn off "take over mode" ("ghost") for faders. Its a feature to avoid errors when doing things from keyboard or buttons, where the faders no longer match position in software vs hardware. And maybe we should add an easy in face turn off/turn on "software smart modes" so that you can choose to progress slowly as you mentioned. VirtualDJ does give a lot, and if one is used to competitor software, it can perhaps be a bit overwhelming at start. (Keep in mind though, those who start with VirtualDJ might feel the complete opposite when going to other program, that "all" their favorite settings are gone, not feeling home, gui being dumb, etc. What you had a starting point will make a bias no matter what). And with so many features, as VirtualDJ does have, it can be a challenge to present it in a simple manner, true. We are always improving though, and listening .. And thanks for your review :)
I couldn't agree more here. I've been with VDJ since 2009 and I am so used to having all the incredible features it offers me than when I use Serato, it feels weird and incredibly limited, and a huge step backwards. I appreciate Terry's review from a hard core Serato user. He tried his best to be non-biased, but that really is impossible because what you start out with and become comfortable with ultimately becomes a part of you. It's like a native English speaker learning Spanish and then giving a review on the Spanish language. Spanish will never feel totally comfortable to the non-native Spanish speaker. Anyway, I thank you guys for the awesome DJ software known as Virtual DJ. It's the only choice for me.
VirtualDJ thank you for taking the time to watch my video. It was a genuinely an eye opening experience. More than just learning about your software, I learned a great deal about my current software app and the good and bad with that also. Video to follow. :-)
Hello virtual Dj, could you please improve on the Audio engine. the audio sound for virtual Dj is really not Good. its very flat. i use Virtual Dj alot but i have to accompany it with audio isolator to be able to get quality audio from the software. yet when i try other sofwares like Tractor, serato and Rekodbox. the audio and bpm are really Good. please work on the Audio Engine of virtual Dj. other than that. Virtual Dj is very Good.
I been using VDJ strictly for videos only. I've been doing a 5 hour video party for over a year, no problems, but recently, when i hit my last hour, the screen /waveforms start lagging. I havent done anything to my different computer, its a pc exceeds all the recommended specs too. any idea?
I completely agree with you. I am a VDJ user, I have been for the last 5 years and honestly, the learning curve wasn't so bad for me. I started using the software without a controller and just learned how to press sync and count beats for drops, phrases and intro. After 3 or 4 months I had fallen in love with Dj-ing and went all in. Took my money, borrowed some more from my dad and hit the store to buy the original pioneer ddj sx for serato. I took the controller out, made my setup and started to play around on the hardware. Learned it pretty quickly and once I tried to make the fine tunning on the software I went back to VDJ. I love the compatibility with hardware, files, ease of use, personalization, support... And since I paid the pro full license, I had all I needed and more. Eventually I bevame a Video Jockey and I already had that "expansion pack" right out of the box. Started to use skins, more controllers, FX, wide pitch adjustment, more use of pads, logo insertions, camera input to the video output, slideshows during my sets... And I only paid once my license. That is the best for me. There are downsides (as everything) but I just love it. I consider myself a fanboy of VDJ. And I have used extensively Serato, Rekordbox, VDJ and a little bit of traktor. I will never pay a license for Serato, maybe for rekorbox (just because I only use pioneer gear) and certainly mot traktor since I dont like native instruments and one of my greatest selling points is Video Mixing. Actually, consider the fact that VDJ gives you DVS, Video, Scratch, Wide pitch adjustment, Key mixing, Logo insertion, hardware compatibility, file type compatibility, sandbox, personalization skins, cloud backup of sets, broadcast, mp3 and mp4 set recording, slideshow option... And everything is there, right out of the box, no expansion packs, no extra charges, no nothing. And most of the gear will work flawless on VDJ even if not native to it.
Thanks for the review. I use streaming services a lot so I started to DJ with Djay on the PC. After a while I got another controller who was not compatible with Djay and the only DJ software that was offering a streaming service was VirtualDJ. The controller came with Serato. I must admit that Serato has an easier interface special for visual beatmatch. So when Serato was offering streaming services. I tried to switch to Serato. But I missed so much functionality that a switch to Serato was a no go for me. I was for me like to go back from a modern four-wheel drive car to a VW-beetle.
I've been using Virtual DJ for the last 12 years exclusively. Over the years I've had a few problems with it but what I did not realize was that if you use it with a very cleaned out computer it runs like a dream. I tried to switch to Serato and I went right back Serato simply does not have the features Virtual DJ does. I agree about the GUI Mont Virtual DJ does have a bunch of different interfaces that you can download to change what the screen looks like. Also I don't know why you are adjusting the brake in the settings you can adjust the brake in the effects section. Anyway I'm at least glad that you reviewed it fairly personally I'm sticking with it until something comes out that blows my mind
i appreciate you taking the time making this video i've been a virtual dj user for about 17 years it's true they do need a save feature just in case you have to format your hard drive but i have found a solution i'm not sure if anyone in the comment section has mention it or you've searched it on youtube or googled it..i'm a windows pc user it may be different on a mac computer file location wise... on virtual dj everything you do from cuing to modifying your settings and bpm is saved to your "database'... this database file for me because i use a pc is located in your virtual dj folder inside your documents folder it varies on a mac....virtual dj installs files in two locations ....in your program files folder and in your documents folder..... in your documents folder there should be a virtual dj folder...this is where your cache, history, skins , database etc... is stored... i use two computers to dj.... i save my database file to a flash drive and when i use my second computer to dj i replace the database file on the virtual dj on my second computer so i can have the same settings from my first computer... so it's very important to save your database file to a flash drive i'll say it again your database file is where your settings that you modified is stored... i hope this was hopeful to everyone that is starting out virtual dj is dope thanks C.T.B.
I just watched both videos and I couldn't agree more with on the VDJ part. Years ago I started on VDJ and it was too much to take in and I could not get the hang of it. I started out by learning to beat match and it was not the easiest thing on VDj for some reason it always seemed like there was a lag when mixing and like you said there is just too much in the settings to know exactly what to do. Once I got to Serato I was able to learn that sofware a lot easier. With that said, it is really a shame that the Rane TTm57 works on VDJ but not serato, smh, I still have mine at home and I am able to use it on Scratch live still but it would be great to make it work on SDJ Pro. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the next review!
@14:40 you mentioned reformation of the hard drive because of what? I picked up a hard drive problem after closing virtual DJ, then going back to Serato. My folders became unaccessible, had to perform a chkdsk which is taking me forever to finish. Now I'm trying to figure out if others have had the same issues
You nailed it! Over and above everything you mentioned, my biggest issue with VDJ was that the was always "Too much going on" and even doing the basics became a nightmare. Serato has always won in terms of keeping their interface clean and geared towards the DJ who wants to perform without the frills and fuss. Rekordbox is unfortunately going the VDJ route in the sense that I get that it's a library management software first, but when I go into performance mode, I don't want to see all the other stuff and would like to be able to easily and quickly do the things I need for my performance like beat jump, set cues etc. Without all other stuff on screen. VDJ usually wins in terms of giving flexibility to the user to customize and tweak the software which say Serato doesn't. Each has it's pros and cons I guess...at the end of the day, I say to each their own.
Absolutely on point for the settings. Coming from an IT background, what they have done is ported the database labels to the gui. Which is one of the worst things u can do for software design. Ususlly when I design things u talk to real world people of the software to name u r front end.
I really do salute you for doing this much research on a DJ software that's not native to you. I never had the glitches in VDJ that you have. I do agree that navigating through the back end programming side of VDJ with all the programmer type lingo can be quite frustrating to some people. I actually love it, but I do have some background in programming, so I do see your point there. Anyway, I enjoyed your review even though I didn't agree with all of it. You have way more energy for this stuff than I do. Lol
The HW related issues... Well. I had something similar. I thought that it is caused by VDJ until I noticed the same in Serato. But, Serato - obviously because of different I/O controller programming - reduces this effect. I noticed that the problem came from power line ripple. Since I elliminated it and reduced the possibility of rippling effect of it, I have no problem with the HW. Reinstalling? Well. On MAC, I don't know what is available, but for Windows, you have 100s of different softwares. Even if you use Windows 10 Home, you can have a OneDrive from Microsoft. That ships with the installation of Windows and with wise setup, you will avoid these situations in the future. More over! You could synchronize the settings data between two - three of your computers. Of course, this might requires some knowledge how to do, but worth the investment in my honest opinion. People using their computer without proper backup are like wall climbers without any protection, safe cables... Or in other words: Dancing on the edge of a sharp-blade. Sh*t can happen any time since Murphey's Law is with us. I'm using VDJ since ~18 years ago (I don't really remember the exact date when I bought the Atomix 1.0 and I already lost the media and license for it, but does not matter.) and in the middle of a party of a new-years eve, my PC went crazy then everything collapsed and the pc got frozen. Quickly turned out that one of the memory cards just had connectivity issue. See? Anything could happen. As we - IT experts - always saying, there are three most important things we (or we must) have in our digital life: Backup, backup and backup.
@@ClevelandTerry Major update on that backup? Makes no sense to me sorry. I don't really understand this. If you create incremental backup and using proper versioning, then you can restore it to a certain point in time. Your own files and config files are not affected by the OS updates. Please help me to better understand what do you want to mean by this.
I had gone through several major os updates through the same back up. I was having software and hardware glitches that I could not fix even with major os updates so I did a clean install and installed everything one by one and not install unnecessary things. I haven’t had a problem sense.
I've never used a TR 808 Drum Machine before. It would be the epitome of arrogance for me to go buy one, work on it for a couple of weeks, then post a video on TH-cam giving my assessment of how good or bad the TR 808 is in relation to the Maschine Mikro M2 that I own. I have used VDJ for over two years and I still haven't learned all of its features! I also use Serato. Neither is "better than" the other because they are different types of software, made by different companies, that appeal to different types of DJ's. It wasn't until I stopped trying to figure out which one is "better" that I finally found my niche in DJing; I found the music that really speaks to me, and the software that would allow me to express myself with the most clarity. DJing is telling a story through music, telling your story. It's always been that way. Use whatever software allows you to tell your story with the most clarity.
Rodney Harris I used VDJ every day since January. I would hardly call that a couple of weeks. I know how good or bad it is because I used it. Analysis is kind of a strong suit of mine. Just because you don’t know all the things it can do does not mean someone else can’t learn more in a shorter amount of time. By the way, did you watch the first video?
very honest review, great job on this... serato came with my sx2 and i didnt take to it very well .. a friend suggested VDJ and i got thru it more naturally, sso its all relative to the user.. to say something is crap when you have no experience with it is ignorance.. use whats comfortable
I'm a longtime user of VDJ and also a tech head and industrial programmer, so the backend suits me perfectly, but I can see how a more gui-based backend could provide a better experience for people who are just starting out with VDJ or who aren't that tech-savvy and just want to get up and running to mix. I started off with version 5, which was much simpler, so I think that helped me get to grips with the program. I also agree with the idea of keeping it simple and letting users discover the added features and automation instead of it being on by default upon installation. The sound engine in VDJ 8 (2018) was completely rewritten from version 7, and I can't fault it for what I use it for. A fair and balanced review.
Interesting hearing your thoughts. I stumbled on your videos because I'm curious as a very long time virtual dj user, I was using it back when it was partnered with Ejay mix Station. I wanted to know if switching to serato would be a good idea. I'm wonder if your critiques are because you're used to a particular way of doing things. I haven't had any issue with the settings layout or the gui. But as mentioned above. I've grown with VDJ as it's developed over the years, so everything it does seems natural to me. Maybe if I tried serato I would have the same issues you have with VDJ. 🤔
Terry you're right. GUI is a huge factor but to defend VDJ. Brake effects is adjusted at the Effects panel not the way you did it. Also there is a CTL button both sides on the very same keyboard you showed.
The way Cleveland set the brake was correct. It set permanent on the play/stop button. The other way is an effect that you always have to set it. I actually have my brake set permanent too.
Any chance you can do a deep dive on Djay Pro2? If its controversial it's cool but I'm way more comfortable on Djay Pro2 on my Macbook Pro and use Serato as my backup program. I have a DDJ SX3 and I kept seeing this attitude that Djay was somehow a toy or not taken seriously, that made me keep trying to use Serato and it's fine but I just like Djay better. I can hop on Serato and gig with it at a moments notice and keep my entire collection maintained on both platforms but I just dig Djay more.
Now, about having time to review Djay Pro2 lol? Actually I'm using VDJ, Serato and Djay Pro2 in that order these days but I'd still love to see your honest and neutral thoughts about Algoriddim Djay Pro2. Cheers and be safe
Great reviews. Agree with a lot of what you are saying. The other issue is that Vdj was "free" software (or could be had for low cost if you knew where to look) for a long time. Same reason FLstudio is looked down on in the music production universe. And you dropped some gold nuggets for the VDj team at 15:00
Fair, gr8 job but keep in mind ,I'm use to more so serato doesn't stand out ,serat4 are use there dj needs, so it's a bit overwhelming making a change ,i just finished a gig using vdj, an it seemed overwhelming, but when I come down and went to the basics ,i was fine, i need to pick one or the other
I could not get VDJ to connect the sound card with my Pioneer DJM-S9 I worked tirelessly with VDJ and Pioneer support and sadly unsuccessful. After trying 3 Mac books (2 different Operating Systems) and a windows 10 PC and 2 different Pioneer DJM-S9 mixers. I connect seamlessly with my Pioneer DDJ-SX2 and American Audio VMS2 Controllers. Have any ideas why?
didnt even realise i could use my it with timecode! paid for the license and currently trying to get it to work with traktor scratch almost there...... thank you mr Bowens!
Hi I have used a lot os software, and atomic that was before the virtual dj came out. It has it moments. Great review. One thing with it is the pitch control that yes if one song is playing if the bpm of the other loaded is way too slow or too fast it will throw off the pitch and you have to move the pitch control to get it working on the controller. I'm using a numark mixtrak platinum. And I do agree the price for for the one controller is a little high as I'm no professional and just love music.
This comprehensive and objective look at the software is very refreshing in a sea of bias and regurgitated rhetoric. Definitely appreciate the time taken to actually understand the software before discussing it. As a long time user of VDJ, I can't agree with you more. I'm currently testing out rekordbox since it came with my 1000. The interface, effects and sample qualities are definitely a step up. Post fade effects are a godsend! If there's a way to get to them in VDJ, I've yet to find it. Anyway, love your work sir. I hope the VDJ developers pay attention to this.
+FinesseSounds thanks for the kind words. As for effects in postfade VDJ In audio, look for fxProcessing, and toggle on Post Fader. Again, something that should probably just be called "effects". Post fade is not searchable.
Virtual DJ has always been my backup DJ software and I agree with you in that the GUI is offsetting. Regarding all the settings, Traktor and Rekordbox also gives you many settings that you can change to suit your needs. I just think their basic settings are what most djs need.
I don’t use my computer keyboard when using. Dj software so these keyboard issues are not something I have to deal with on Serato or vdj. And as mixers and controllers give us more direct hardware control I think it willl be less of an issue going forward
Cleveland, I just watched this. I’ve used all of the “top three”. Your spot on with this. Btw, I think the vdj developers saw this also😃. Things are different now in 2020!
Definitely have to agree with the fact that it does take time to get use to using vdj but I still love it over all others. I have record box, serato and engine prime, engine prime not really being a DJ software more like a database for your music and it needs alot of help. But what makes serato a plus for you is what turned me off to it. I feel like they are price gouging. Constantly have to pay for this or that on serato. With vdj it's all there for one price weather you use it or not. Is serato simpler to use? Yes most definitely but it's just not fun for me. Been djing for going on 40 years now and I need alot to keep me interested and vdj definitely keeps me interested with the level of customization it reminds me of the days when we literally had to design our equipment to do what we needed. Can't tell you how many speakers I rebuilt or mixers, I made because the equipment was just not made for djing. Taking video hardware and turning it in to something cool and unique. This is what vdj brings to the table. I mean how many people remember when they figured out they can make their 1200s play backwards. I remember doing it in a set and the crowd exploded like holy shit. This is what vdj can do for you, you might discover something nobody else has and be able to bring it to a set. What I'm saying is vdj gives you the ability to be innovative again. I mean there but so many scratches and mixes but somebody come up with something new again. Anyway I did enjoy your review, like to see what you say about recordbox.
Are you using Mojave 10.14.4? That could be your issues. All softwares are having issues with that Mojave version. I stopped at 10.14.3 because of that reason. I use Rekordbox DJ, Traktor, Serato DJ & Virtual DJ without issues. Also other friends have issues with their 2017 Macbook Pro's with 3rd party wires (thunderbolt 3 to USB 3 wires) instead of dongles from Apple. I would definitely look into that.
Thanks DJ Cleveland, this is what the industry needs. Veterans who put out result based on true research and test. Am glad this video got the attention of team vdj as they came out to appreciate you. It takes balls as most company with big ego won't do it. Not that am here to direct, but it will be wise if team vdj tap into opportunities like this and work with veterans to make the software better and also expose it's TRUE potential. Cos most DJs who diss vdj is purely based on hear say or show off.
@@ClevelandTerry you just earned a sub. I ev been following your your channel since I discovered your method of information sharing depends on results from actual research and hands on test. Honest reviews from open minded professionals helps folks like me make good decisions. Keep up the good work.
Does VDJ, have a shortcut to Load songs?? . Like the shift and arrow in Serato.. I haven’t seemed to find a way to do load songs. I hate using mouse, and click and dragging.
Hey... Terry.... I'm planning on using VDJ... With my Pioneer ddj-sz2 controller... Could you do a video using this controller.. and get really in debt with this controller... also using the flip on Pioneer ddj-sz2 controller. I really like this controller... have one in the layaway plan on getting it out soon ... I'm not too savvy on programming or mapping.. will i need too do any mapping on my controller when i get it
Mapping with VDJ is so easy. Once you learn how to do it, you'll go crazy with all the limitless possibilities at your fingertips. The sky is the limit with VDJ. You can make that controller work any way your mind thinks.
@@DJ2Legit007 ..... Do you have to be hook up too the internet too do any mapping for VDJ? IF anyone stay in Indiana area could you help a dj. Brother out?
Nope. You don't have to be connected to the internet to do the mapping. I live in Oklahoma so I can't help ya. Also VDJ has a great user forum. You can sign up there and get a lot of help.
Great Review, I actually learned something from watching this, i've used VDJ ever since it was Atomix MP3, it's really changed and progressed so much. Since version 8 its very much GUI garbled, but one your used to it., it all makes sense. Question of preference. Love the idea of cloud settings backup, gonna suggest this in the forums. a note about audio quality. its wise to bear in mind the resources the video aspect takes away from any system. Audio engine is much better then VDJ Version 7. it wont be long before the audio engine is on par, especially with constant auto updates.
Hi Loved your review I just have one question regarding video djing. A lot of people say vdj is awesome way better then serato in terms of video which Serato havent updated much at all to be honest and i am from auckland new zealand where the serato guys have listened to us local small time djs in live q&a and by the sounds of it Just isnt high on their list of priorities which when u think about it bigger picture so many companies bringing so many products out All to be serato certafied takes up a lot of their time and to me and A lot of serato users if u are serious about video u get mix emergency which if Vdj is close to mix emergency please let me know and with that being said why would serato put more time into video when mix emergency is such a great product. And once again thanks
fasted2636 VDJ Video, rekordbox video and mix emergency are all very good apps and much better than what serato video gives you, not to mention they haven't put any resources into in years.
I watched both your videos. Great presentation. With regards to saving, you should be using cloud software to save your work. I use google drive to automatically sync anything new I download or change on my computer. Great job
Heny Macauley Thank you, much appreciated. I have many backups of my system, but there was corruption that I could not locate so I decided to do a clean install and load everything from scratch. I had gone through 6-7 major software updates. Normally I would just clone my back up.
good review, but 13:10(sound quality) depends on how u set your output quality, cuz default is 192kbps whereas it can even be set up to 320kbps which i'm sure aint thesame after.
CrAiG DJ you would be correct if I wasn't listening to the same song / mix on different software platforms. It's not about the song quality, in this case.
You should check out my other videos on VDJ. I have many, including reviews for 2020 and 2021 stem feature like 3 days ago. By the way. This is a two part video. Watch that first one before you say I don’t know the platform.
2019 09 23 Serato was the first to use Vinly and is club standard because they do better marketing. VDJ is more versatile and better software. Many of the function from VDJ were adopted on serato years later.
I started with Virtual DJ with the sb-2 never used Serato came right from Vinyl... Took some time to get used to... But I'mma tell you the truth . I agree with everything you say and I'm telling you the deal breaker is those settings when I seen you pull that menu up I got fatigue LOL the only reason why I made the switch to Serato is because I upgraded my set up... funny story is I try to download Serato DJ Pro instead of the light version or whatever it was at that time and it didn't register to my controller and that's what made me go to Virtual DJ because I used to use it without a controller... And let me go ahead and it say this much also... I felt that Serato sting and even atomix 4 a t-shirt... For purchase here.. The reply was for me to copy the logo and get the shirt made myself
Honestly i been using vdj since i started changing to laptop and i love it just because it plays all sorts of files unlike serato traktor or recordbox that only play mp3 files
Serato does have Serato remote. I use it for grand entrances as well. It’s not the most simple to use. Catch is that you have to leave the fader 🎚 @ 50% to use both decks remotely. That my experience the last time I used it.
+Juan Romero Jr. I didn't say it didn't have serato remote. I said it doesn't do much. I still use it when the system I'm using doesn't have cue points etc.
The comments on the Windows methods in the Mac world are right on. The window sizing on the Mac is terrible. It shows Windows window sizing controls--and they don't work correctly. They don't even work the way they would work on Windows. And edge-sizing doesn't work. It took me a long time to figure out how to get out of full-screen. And if the computer hangs in Virtual DJ, as it did when I tried to enter the interface design mode, you're totally locked out of your computer and have to do a hard reboot; can't even get a Force Quit window up to force VDJ to give up its hung grasp on the whole computer.
I Enjoy your youtube page, thank you for your honesty. I enjoy Serato , I'm a average Dj in my humble option, so I have function i use and mini map and then I'm good with my 62, but for me It works, but i enjoy the education of the other software and your reviews .thank you for taking the time to share
i only use vdj with my ddj1000 love the software. and like you said took a bit to work out all the settings. you can't beat vdj for video just can't. i get compliments on sound quality all the time from recorded mixes and at events. headphone sound is most likly a tweak that i made at some point. i thank you for being one of the only to review and not bash the software i get it all the time why aren't u using real softwear. my response why are you not djing a gig. great job on the review and sorry for your loss. keep up the great work. looking forward to record box review used it when i got the 1000 could not become converted. maybe vdj will see this and fix my only draw back i want a good echo out record box has a great one.
Loved this video over part 1. It is possible that virtual DJ is and has to stay this way. In my opinion I believe there's a market for it. Windows seems to be geared towards the tech-savvy. That's it's job just like Android. Perhaps VDJ is not meant to be the popular simple software. Example IOS, iPhones, serato.also the issue you had can be resolved by backing up your settings. There's a mapping XML file that you can back up.
I'm not attacking you. I'm expressing a different opinion. There are many videos pitting VDJ (8/2018) against Serato. My opinion from watching them is: play your music.
Very thorough and informative!! I've been a PC / Virtual DJ user for the last 3-4 years. Now I'm going full time and updating equipment... looks like I need to change to Apple and was worried about how Virtual DJ will work with it. Your comments have given me enough insurances that I can proceed... it sucks that apple costs so much! lol
I've been a full time professional DJ for many years. I still use PCs and I always will. I never understood DJs who think you must go Mac to be full time or professional. Makes zero sense to me.
I have re-evaluated my thinking and feel gonna stick with PC VDJ... cheaper in long run when I go multi-op and need more systems for my DJs. will look at again in couple years if business pays off. thanks for input... much appreciated!!
@@ClevelandTerry i was just wondering if serato did it too.By the way i spent a fun evening getting to know vdj.I can now mix effect and scratch video without any crunching stuttering or freezing unlike serato at the moment .Have you tried out vdjs looped synced beats and synths? They are lots of fun.Good review well done.
thank you for your time and posts. enjoy them a lot. been playing with VDJ for 3 years now and I just do or try to do what i want to by cheating the system and the next time it's an upgrade.. (::)
Good review, not mentioned, never seems to get mentioned in most software reviews, is that (at least in my experience), the beatgridding on the track analysis has been the best out of vdj, serato and rekordbox. I don't think it's key analysis is good, but it seems to beatgrid my tracks (especially breakbeat/hip hop and even acapellas) better than the others. Sadly, the caveat to this is how much crappier editing beatgrids is in vdj. Definitely agree with the gui. One big reason I couldn't stand to use it. Just too difficult to change things.
This is actually one of the crucial points why I like VDJ. The beatgridding in serato for anything other than electronically made music is AWFUL. I've only had to adjust the beatgrid on maybe 5 of my 1,000s of songs in VDJ while it seems like I need to adjust the ones in Serato almost 20-30% of the time. This is HUGE when you are playing anything other than American music because adjusting each of the songs is not a quick process. I also think that editing the beatgrids on VDJ isn't that bad but that's just a difference in opinion.
Ever since i watched your first video about why you should use SDJ or Recordbox, your claims of VDJ were so far off. i almost wrote you off as some arrogant asshole right then. I looked into your playlists and seen the video of you actually giving it a shot and I can't say i was shocked. You clowned the software and got a reaction that you couldn't just ignore cause your claims were here say. Any man with a spine would have to look farther. You said you would make video and then I forgot about that until now. I am completely floored. Thank you for such an honest review. Shows me how much its all for the complete love and passion for music as a whole. Hats off to you for that. I have always loved music. About 5 years ago I started with wanting to learn to manipulate it as well. A friend said "try this" and I got the (looks around) cracked version of VDJ7 and a mixtrack 2 that I had to find mappers for. As you progress you always want more. So $$ got involved and paid for it and was in heaven. I have Traktor and Serato as well. As progression came further and wanted more manipulation yes ... The effects just stink after using traktor and serato. Even after learning and using those softwares I still just go back to VDJ. It is what I know. Period. Knock me down all you want for using it. I can give a fk. We can let the music speak. The product that comes out of your hardware and through those speakers and into the ears of the world is what really matters. How you get there is all choice. Since the dawn of man..... Every asshole has always had an opinion. Xbox vs Playstation.. its a video game. Apple vs Andriod... Its a phone.. Chevy vs Ford... Its a car. So the f what? VDJ vs Serato vs Recordbox vs Ect ect.. who cares? Its a software and the only thing that matters is how you use it to pour your heart and soul out to produce something entertaining enough to be enjoyable by others. If you are rocking the hell out of the crowd using winamp.....you won. Bottom line is. You were man enough to eat some of your words between start to finish. Your four videos me tioning this software as a whole were super entertaining and very educational. I cant wait for the next ones honestly because I know I will learn from them as well. I like your conclusion though i took it as this..so for the next beginner out there or dj that got clowned into switching.. check out the new version of VDJ it is kinda sick if you take the time to learn it. With a fresh mind you will need to learn anyways so why not. There will always be haters out there. As long as your mind is open... then.. smile and laugh and run the hell out of those tracks.
Virtual DJ 2021 + Windows gaming laptop computer + Numark NVii DJ controller + DJ pool downloaded music + VDJ Tidal streaming + Spotify streaming software + 22 to 27 inch FHD extender monitor + WALI monitor desk mount + usb mouse + Yamaha mg10xu mixer + 2 to 4 Shure wireless mics + 2 or 4 QSC CP12 + 2 or 4 Yamaha DXS15 MKii = best professional mobile DJ audio set-up in my opinion.
I have been using rekordbox and serato. rekordbox more than serato. i have loves on both. I went back to DJ three years ago with a wego and VDJ. it was ok. i could not really do something that i can do now with the software's mention before. but i heard VDJ (lastest version) is pretty good. but i tell people most of the time to stick to rekordbox DJ
That was the point. "Since January," is not a lot of time. I've used it for over 2 years. It is an evolving software not unlike Serato. But, DJing is about music, not software. Do your crowds really care what software you use?
Rodney Harris I don’t know man. I’ve now learned Serato, rekordbox and VDJ pretty well. When it’s all said and done, it’s dj software, not rocket science. To answer your question, do I care what software rocks the crowd the hardest? Obviously, that’s not a real thing. I’ve been DJing since vinyl. Since the late 80s. It doesn’t matter what I use, I’m still going to kill it but people want to know about different software so I tell them. Keep in mind, my full time job is DJing so I have more time than the average person to test equipment and software.
I know this video is two yrs old and I hope within that space of time u have gotten into the software more where u can say that at the time you made this video you was still a novice at the software and didn't know what to expect from it.
Thanks for review I come from little town called Oxnard there was a birthday party for a fellow DJ and we all sitting around fire I was just a little out side of Circle someone said hey RJ how come you're in time out they wont let you in the circle? I said nice loud because I'm a virtual dj not serato user lol everyone started laughing. its true me and maybe couple Spanish DJ in that's it I come from 1200's .1250 newmark mixer cv35's speakers everything was by ear n count n Mark's on Records anyway make long story shorter but married DJING put hold now divorce started DJing again it what always love so I could afford monthly subscription so that's why vDj that's again I like all your other videos too brother keep it up thanks for letting me share ............RJ kid Estrada
@@ClevelandTerry no problem.. they also had one of the best feelings scratching. It comes with a production software free called remix and works with ableton I think
Depends on what system your running VDJ On. On top settings, it's comparable to Tracktor and Serato, Bear in mind The Video aspect of VDJ Takes system resources that others don't. Personally I run HD video using Tracktor Audio 6 interface. also using low bitrates dosnt help. Using FLAC I cannot tell between CD or VDJ, for me that's all that matters.
@@ClevelandTerryI surely did watch both, so how you "feel" is irrelevant. I feel like DJs with these my opinion matters only are what's wrong with the game. If you get the job done, your client is happy and your getting paid, do what works for you. Why's it matter what program or gear is used. I have my preferences just like we all do, but I'm not going to get on TH-cam and run down something and explain the "problems" with it, I'm my opinion, especially if its something I've played with for a few weeks etc. That doesn't make anyone an expert nor is it an accurate opinion for others to truly consider. That's all.
+Kenneth A. Young seriously? You sound like someone with serious software anxiety. I've been using VDJ for long enough to be knowledgeable in the software. My points are valid even if you don't agree. It's funny, the entire first video talks about the great things in VDJ and one "problem" and people act like I just slapped their grandma. Even the admins at Virtual DJ acknowledged some of the "problems" and they are working on a fix so I would say I know what talking about but, to each their own. If my "problems" make the software better than that should be a good thing. Also, I've never once said nor do I believe my opinion is the thing that matters. Sorry if you perceived it that way.
@@ClevelandTerry homie, how are you going to now tell me I have an anxiety now? You are doing to much for sure. Facts over Opinion, always. Fact, what you use and what you use just like what I use is what I use, just like anyone else. Going online and giving your opinion on something is what it is but what you feel is a "problem" just not be for someone else. Especially when they probally have more experience with what you are having saod problem with. It's all about what you are comfortable with etc. Opinions are cool, just remember that they are opinions, brother.
And people are actually that way because of how you come off, bro. I've seen a previous video and commented on you jokingly being DJ Walk On Water or some shit like that. DJs especially ones that dont have a ton of experience are impressionable and want to learn, so giving your take is just that but in the end it needs to be explained that it's more about trial and error, experience, proficiency and comfort. That end all be all approach isnt it and doesnt translate well.
@Lester Green pioneer Remix station 1000. has a powerful isolator
How can I fix vdj license for my controller please help me out
Thanks for the review.
DJ MAYDAY good tip and yes, we have a database file too.
MrThomAce I had many backups but my computerI had like 7 major updates on that backup and I decided to do a clean install this time. :-)
The sales figures as well as simply seeing what a majority of professional working dj's use doesn't lie. Serato dominates for a good reason
A fair and balanced review.
i definitely agree. the GUI is shit but still my most used.lol
That second keyboard I showed was a PC, not Mac.
I can hop on Serato and gig with it at a moments notice and keep my entire collection maintained on both platforms but I just dig Djay more.
chadnliz2k11 I'm actually considering it. It just may take a little time.
@@ClevelandTerry thanks for all your efforts, I really appreciate you
Now, about having time to review Djay Pro2 lol?
Actually I'm using VDJ, Serato and Djay Pro2 in that order these days but I'd still love to see your honest and neutral thoughts about Algoriddim Djay Pro2. Cheers and be safe
Will gaming labtop work with Virtual dj 8?
George Tyrone Jr. of course!
I never had any of your problems, music adjustments & searhing, formatting my computer and Im working with the free version.
Maurice Mcgary The free version does not include hardware support so the problems I have would not necessarily surface on yours.
Great reviews. Agree with a lot of what you are saying. The other issue is that Vdj was "free" software (or could be had for low cost if you knew where to look) for a long time. Same reason FLstudio is looked down on in the music production universe.
And you dropped some gold nuggets for the VDj team at 15:00
Dranomoly thank you.
Fair, gr8 job but keep in mind ,I'm use to more so serato doesn't stand out ,serat4 are use there dj needs, so it's a bit overwhelming making a change ,i just finished a gig using vdj, an it seemed overwhelming, but when I come down and went to the basics ,i was fine, i need to pick one or the other
So what's wrong with using the BreakStart effect? Back up your settings folder it's only about 15mb found in \Documents\Virtual DJ
I could not get VDJ to connect the sound card with my Pioneer DJM-S9
I worked tirelessly with VDJ and Pioneer support and sadly unsuccessful.
@@ClevelandTerry Exactly! Lol. I've scoured those settings man. It's definitely sensory overload. Thanks for the tip!
Virtual DJ has always been my backup DJ software and I agree with you in that the GUI is offsetting. Regarding all the settings, Traktor and Rekordbox also gives you many settings that you can change to suit your needs. I just think their basic settings are what most djs need.
Sihle Makanya yup. I've used all the major ones, except for tracktor
I don’t use my computer keyboard when using. Dj software so these keyboard issues are not something I have to deal with on Serato or vdj. And as mixers and controllers give us more direct hardware control I think it willl be less of an issue going forward
Hey Terry time to update to VDJ 2020, it looks to be a game changer 😀
+Bryan Dredge
first impressions coming today
Truly for PC! Non Standard Thinking, But Good Software if you spend the time to learn & Adjust.
Nope, still on .3
Thanks DJ Cleveland, this is what the industry needs.
+Midnytcowboy thank you I wish all VDJ users thought like you and saw what I was trying to do vs blind hate for anything critical.
Itsa Me DJ Mario yes. Change the default keyboard layout to the other one. I think it's alternate or something like that.
Hey...
Virtual DJ I feel is more like a training program for people who are just starting out trying to DJ. But it is a pretty good one at that.
virtual Dj the goat it been out years before serato
Great video. I love working on VDJ. Maybe you should have let someone who is a VDJ user, show you VDJ.
You should check out my other videos on VDJ. I have many, including reviews for 2020 and 2021 stem feature like 3 days ago. By the way. This is a two part video. Watch that first one before you say I don’t know the platform.
Question what version were you using cause most the thing you are talking about was changed in version 8
+Michael Joseph I'm on 8. The most recent update. I'm on the subscription plan. What parts are you referring to that you believe have been changed?
2019 09 23 Serato was the first to use Vinly and is club standard because they do better marketing.
VDJ is more versatile and better software. Many of the function from VDJ were adopted on serato years later.
+Desmond Walker versatile yes, better is debatable, especially when you’re talking about personal preference.
What is software?
The comments on the Windows methods in the Mac world are right on. The window sizing on the Mac is terrible. It shows Windows window sizing controls--and they don't work correctly. They don't even work the way they would work on Windows. And edge-sizing doesn't work. It took me a long time to figure out how to get out of full-screen. And if the computer hangs in Virtual DJ, as it did when I tried to enter the interface design mode, you're totally locked out of your computer and have to do a hard reboot; can't even get a Force Quit window up to force VDJ to give up its hung grasp on the whole computer.
i think the VJD team should see this.
They will
they did 😆
On VDJ, download a skin called "Controller HD". It should feel closer to Serato.
I Enjoy your youtube page, thank you for your honesty. I enjoy Serato , I'm a average Dj in my humble option, so I have function i use and mini map and then I'm good with my 62, but for me It works, but i enjoy the education of the other software and your reviews .thank you for taking the time to share
thank you.
i only use vdj with my ddj1000
love the software. and like you said took a bit to work out all the settings. you can't beat vdj for video just can't.
i get compliments on sound quality all the time from recorded mixes and at events. headphone sound is most likly a tweak that i made at some point.
i thank you for being one of the only to review and not bash the software i get it all the time why aren't u using real softwear. my response why are you not djing a gig.
great job on the review and sorry for your loss. keep up the great work.
looking forward to record box review used it when i got the 1000 could not become converted.
maybe vdj will see this and fix my only draw back i want a good echo out record box has a great one.
Hey did you get your phase Brother
Not yet. Just got my shipping email.
VDJ is fantastic for practicing and tagging tracks, testing effects and such. For serious Dj'ing though, I wouldn't use it unless I need to.
Very thorough and informative!! I've been a PC / Virtual DJ user for the last 3-4 years. Now I'm going full time and updating equipment... looks like I need to change to Apple and was worried about how Virtual DJ will work with it. Your comments have given me enough insurances that I can proceed... it sucks that apple costs so much! lol
Misko Valent yup, so expensive.
Good for you! Just make sure to use high end PCs. Use i7 / 2.6GHz processors with at least 8 gigs of ram and you'll be fine.
Are you from Cleveland?
+Harry Wookz nope. It’s actually my real name.
@@ClevelandTerry I have a friend named Cleveland. We are from the Cleveland area.
The good thing about VDJ is they listen and you'll see changes that people have asked for.
Serato does split cue doesn’t it ?Rane hardware does it
Danielle king we are talking hardware split cue vs software split cue.
try this mix it’s amazing an awesome
Great review. Very insightful.
Nice review, I'm with Rekordbox DJ. One reason is I don't do video and I'm not going to pay for a major part of a software that I don't use.
Steve Mcc that makes sense.
Serato video doesn’t work at all
They should make the payment option where you pay off the lifetime subscription thru monthly payments
VDJ 8 Profiles By Djsadim you can save up to 3 profiles edit and update your settings
Ok. Different strokes...
The GUI really sucks such that im still stuck to Version 3.4 which looked very good at that time
I know this video is two yrs old and I hope within that space of time u have gotten into the software more where u can say that at the time you made this video you was still a novice at the software and didn't know what to expect from it.
ALEX ST.HILLAIRE there are two parts to this video plus a review on 2020. What part do you have issue with? Also assuming you watched the pt 1 too
Which is better for vdj..Mac or PC?
+George Tyrone Jr. Well I would say PC because it was designed for PC but it works just fine on Mac
PC!
Awesome video.. Very well done..
Since you have the DDJ 1000, you no longer need VDJ. Save your money and use the Rekordbox software.
I have more than just a DJ 1000, I have at least six other mixers and controllers
Raymond Estrada I know that little town you speak of. 😀. I grew up in Simi.
I repeat vitual dj anyday anytime take it or leave it for me
You should try mixvibes cross .. 4.0 is coming out and in the beginning they helped with record box
Media Headz TV thanks for the info!
@@ClevelandTerry no problem.. they also had one of the best feelings scratching. It comes with a production software free called remix and works with ableton I think
Virtual DJ 2020
Excellent video reviews of vdj. I think I will stay with Rekkordbox DJ. Thanks for the review! Very informative!
Great video
Only thing i like about VDJ is that it plays all music files and Serato don't play all music files. If Serato did it would be the best
+CeddyCed True.
i have serato rekordbox and vdj8 and vdj8 is the best......
Still 1 rules the planet 2 runs in Europe 3 is trying to catch up 4 is kind of cool. Peace Brother terry 👍🏿💯
Lol i dig it
Thanks ...Bro..Cleveland
This is Good!....I come frm VDJ......I have a Numark DJ2GO ....I jus installed Serato Lite\Intro....LoL😆.....it should be called Buy Serato!
I'm leaning towards a PC..Instead of Mac
dope video
Nice
Honest review .so true virtual DJ audio doesn't sound good like other DJ software .
If you change the Skin its much better
First.
its well know they virtual dj has the worst audio engine
lol
Bull
Agenda much? SMH
+Kenneth A. Young did you watch both videos? I kind of feel like you didn't.
