- Happy World Carnivorous Day! I'm Jeff Kung and I made this video for World Carnivorous Day on May 1, 2024 through the International Carnivorous Plant Society! I've been growing carnivorous plants for a little over 2 years now. During these years, I've been enjoying learning all about temperate Venus fly traps and pitcher plants as well as tropical pitcher plants and sundews. But in this video, I'll be showing you how I grow Cephalotus follicularis on my desk! I love it because I get to look at my plants as I work every day!
I also have a companion care sheet if you'd like to have a written version of my video. You can access it here: docs.google.co...
If you have any questions or ideas you want to share about Cephalotus care, please comment below! I would love to hear from you.
A huge thanks to Kenny Coogan and the ICPS for inviting me to make this video. Also a huge thanks to California Carnivores for being the inspiration that brought me into this wonderful hobby and community. I've learned so much from their videos! And of course to my wife, Lisa, for putting up with my plants taking over the house.

Great and informative video! Amazing plants!
@@greglum1593 thank you! I had a lot of fun making this for the ICPS WCPD!!!
Very cool plants!
Thank you!
Finally, I found your TH-cam Channel!
@@greglum1593 yay! Welcome, Greg! 👋😀
Thanks for this video. I just looked up that plant online...Now I definitely want one!
That's great! You'll have fun with it I'm sure.
Very nice collection! I commend your dedication... My plant is coming along but not as big as yours yet!
That's cool! My big UC Davis clone took 2 years to get to this size. But once it started growing well (same goes for my other 4) they just take off. Very exciting to see them grow faster as they mature. :)
Wow! Do you own Darlingtonia indoor?
No, mine's outdoors year round. It sits in a Styrofoam box with a lid cutout to fit the pot. In the summers, I add in a frozen bottle of water to cool it's "feet" especially during the hotter days.
Very beautiful plants. What light is this one? I have been searching for a small light like this but it ia hard to find with right spectrum and enough lux.
It's a Yescom 225 white, however, they have gone out of production form Yescom. 😥 I'm very sad about this. So I'm still looking for alternatives that are as inexpensive as the 225s were. So far, everything is at least 2-3 times more expensive. But so far, I've narrowed my search down to Vivosun, Mars Hydro, or Spider Farmer panel lights. They all have much better features than the old Yescoms, put out as much or more light as the Yescoms, but, like I said, at about 2-3 times the cost.
Powdery mildew has nuked all the Cephalotus I ever had. I’m getting a large clump soon, so I hope I can avoid it this time.
Damon at California Carnivores sprays his Cephs monthly with a sulphur based treatment. My collection is very small so I do visual inspection almost every day with my phone camera. I’m always taking pictures of mg plants and catch problems before they get really bad.
