I bought these while i was in Switzerland and was explained how to properly use them. I used them as watercolor pencils and used a refillable water brush and they are amazing. Overpriced, yes. I wouldn't use them for outlining . They blend beautifully with water. But I love the ASMR and the nails!
Holbein has a set of all pastel pencils in both 12 and 50 pack. They feel like better Prismacolour, just as smooth and shiny but don’t break nearly as quickly.
Holbein is great unless you plan to hang your artwork on the wall or sell/display it as they don't use the global lightfastness scale and provide their own that is not verified by an outside source ^^
I was really looking forward to this video after you mentioned it on Patreon. As someone who cannot stand Prismacolor (I am way too heavy-handed with them) I've been interested in this brand, so thank you for sharing your first impressions! I love the variation in texture in the piece you created, especially within the lineart. What a fantastic illustration to end 2023 with! Thank you for being so consistent with your Patreon content, by the way. I am definitely not judging because I wouldn't be able to run one myself, but a lot of creators I follow end up biting off more than they can chew, taking extended hiatuses and eventually just shutting everything down. You are a refreshing exception to that. I know I can always look forward to new and diverse content from you. (If anyone out there is considering becoming a patron -- it's definitely worth it!) Have a Happy New Year!
The illustration is beautiful!! I actually impulsively bought a set of caran d ache last year, waaaay over my budget 😅 i was and still am ashamed to say how much i bought them to my close ones. The worst part is that i barely used them until now, i havent touched them in months BUT i do non regret purchasing them one second. I think its an great investment if you are an artist and i know once my mental health gets better and i find the motivation to draw again i will be super happy to use them 😊 I really enjoy your content i am exited to see all the beautiful illustration you’ll make next year!!!
Acrylic gouache isn’t the best to use with pencils in general but I promise you try it with watercolour or traditional gouache. You’ll love it! They’re very smooth and have least amount of glare (shininess) from all my coloured pencils (Holbein, Polychromos, Prisma, Coloursoft). Also if anyone is looking for a smaller cheaper set of pencils with the same feel and performance the Derwent Drawing have that same almost chalky texture but again not brittle or crumbly at all. They just glide.
or markers I was more of a fan of polychromos and to some extent prisma but for markers I think luminance is the best it's smooth but not too waxy and you barely notice colored pencils were used along with markers while using prisma you can if that makes sense.
@@Vengurl09 totally makes sense, it’s the same issue I had with gouache. Since it’s a matte medium, any pencils I laid over top would be glaringly obvious especially for something as waxy as prisma. I love Polychromos for outlines and Luminance for shading. Perfect combo. In my opinion both have a much better range than Prisma with truly unique colours.
Holbein has a 150 set that includes a ton of pastels and are a good midway between prisma and polys (in that they don’t break but are quite buttery). They also have a set of the pastels alone if you want to only get that.
I highly recommend trying the Lefranc Bourgeois Flashe Paint. These paints dry mat without the plastic smooth kind of surface that acryla gouache tends to create which make them just a perfect surface / base for color pencils in general.
You mean you're giving me eternal love for a comment boosting algorithms? What a steal! And in all seriousness, I hope you like the set, that it brings you joy and is nice to work with
Luminance pencils used ro have a 72 color range but bow have 100 color range ! The disadvantage of the creaminess of pencils such as the prismacolours are that they are difficult to use for detaios and for layering. This is why some ranges such as the luminances or the lightfast (from derwent) who aim at being more polyvalent have a formula a little in between the polychromos and the prismacolors. So less color payoff doesn't mean bad quality just more ability to layer. Which for your use isn't necessary but are an imprtant feature for many pencil artists ! Also you won't ever find neon/fluorescent pencils in the luminance because these colors aren't lightfast and the range is built on only lightfast pigments. That's why it's kind of lacking in pinks too. Vibrant pink pigments are usually less lightfast than others. (If you're curious check the lightfastness of your favourite prismacolors premier colors high chances are it's pretty low). If I could recommend a better version of prismacolors premiers pencils (aka creamy consistency, large colour range including lots of pastels, pinks and neons but with better quality and far less breakage) i would recommend the holbein artits color pencils.
Have you ever tried their watersoluble wax pastels? I feel like you would really like those because you can shift back in forth from wet medium blending to layering the dry strokes over top. the mid-large sets also have a a bunch of purple, pink and blue pastels. I probably work with it the most out of all my art supplies now lol
Thank you for sharing another video! I admit that when I saw it starting out with just ASMR and subtitles I was sad, as I like watching your (and other TH-camr's) videos while I work on my own art, but I can't do that if I have to look up every five seconds to read a subtitle. That said: that's a personal preference, and I know ASMR art videos are popular, so if that's the direction you want to take your videos, all power to you! Just a personal preference on my part. But I was really happy to see there was voiceover for most of it.
I’m just finding your channel ,and this was Such a helpful video for me. I love the process of paint first then colored pencil , love learning new ways of art !! This is beautiful !
Oh this piece turned out so beautiful 😍 I LOVE your art style so so much ☺ I have several of the Caran d´Ache Luminance 6901 and they made me fall in love with using colored pencils They work amazingly well together and their texture is just amazing I used to not wanting to work with colored pencils but that changed with the Luminance colors I do have a few Prismacolors but I am not fond of them at all... I honestly do not know why but I find myself not wanting to use them and instead gravitating towards these ones from Caran d´Ache 🙂 I´m so happy you have this set, I´m sure you will find a way to incorporate them in to your art that will make you fall in love with them 😆 There is also a 100 pencils set and ooh boy I want to get that set so bad but I do not have the money for it so instead I just buy them separately every now and then 🙂 Take care hugs from Finland
Can I say this piece makes me feel emotional? I want to cry, it's so soft and optimistic!! 😭😣💖 As an average artist/creative person I won't get Luminance pencils hahaha Also thank you for sharing how the process of pencils on hotpress feels
Aloha Tina, just want to wish you a very 'Happy New Year' & the art you made in this particular video is so stunningly beautiful and amazing. On another note: when you did the ASMR part; no offense to you and *everybody else (*Especially if you are a person who did truthfully enjoyed ASMR though 😅) on another note but I did felt the ASMR does truthfully give me a scare though in my own opinion. Anyway, on a different note; have a safe & wonderful New Years Eve. 🤙🏽
Great video, I love a little ASMR and this was the perfect amount. I have the 40 pencil set but the larger set has been sitting in my cart for 2 years now. These are my favorite pencils so I will get them someday. My guess is the lack of certain colors is due to light fastness. Luminance (and I think Derwent Lightfast) are listed as LF I- LF II. Most bright pinks and neons aren’t that lightfast. I have Derwent Lightfast pencils too and they don’t have those colors either.
I've been intrested in a technique like this, using watercolor washes and adding outlines and details with colored pencils. Would love to see you do a video experimenting with these pencils on top of normal watercolor or gouache and maybe alcohol markers. I'm not sure that acryla gouache is the best base for this supply.
I wouldn't think using the pencils on acrylic gouache is a fair test. As you said it's basicaly a plastic. I'd like to see you use them on alcohol markers.
I think she wanted to use them to see how they were on gouache, considering thats her main medium. It wouldnt make sense, for example, for me to try out new colored pencils on watercolor when my main medium is markers.
Luminance does have 100 pencils, and you should be able to buy the full set ... 😊 They have really strong archival and light fastness abilities, which is one of the reasons they are a tad more expensive.
I think the reason there is no pastels and not many pinks in the set [there is a 100 set and that dosnt change much XD] is because they are supposed to be very lightfast and usually pinks are fugitive pigments and i think it's similar to pastels they need to add white to lighten them and i think that might later on impact the lighfastness. New subscriber here ;P love your art
Well the set you have is 76, but they have since come out with 24 more colours equaling 100. It seems coloured pencils do not work well with acrylic gouache. Prismacolors would be the best to start with and the Luminance if they want to explore more. The image turned out great. HNY, keep creating 💜💛💙
I bought a set a while back. They're pretty nice but I probably won't be buying another one. Maybe the white and some of the skin tones. But they're just too expensive. If I'm gonna buy expensive pencils, I'm going for Polychromos.

Love the pigmentation of Holbein and good for those who like a soft pencil

Flashe is wonderful with pencils! No other paint comes close in my experience.

I really loved the ASMR part, pls do some more 🖤
I feel that derwent is super underrated, but the chromaflow and the lightfast pencils are both really good!

When she opened the box… could anyone else smell the fresh new pencils? Just me? 😂
i'm currently stuck at home with covid so this video was a lovely surprise to wake up to 🥰💖 loving the richness and brightness of colour!! x
Gorgeous!!!!!
Love it!
It’s not New Years Day yet, but I wish you an early good luck to you for 2024!

Loved the video, but not the asmr, it does horrible things to me sound wise 😖 turned the sound down, such pretty colours
So satisfying to watch…. Makes me wanna splurge 🫣😩💸!!!
