    Thank you so much for this video. I love watching your videos and will be watching this one multiple times! Feathers are one of my favorite things to do in leather and you make it look effortless. I admire your your work. Your brother's music is awesome as well. Thank you again 😊

    I watch this again and again (not only this one, but most of your videos) ... I pause video after every several seconds and try see & understand what you just did and why. This is not only presentation of your awesome skills, but videos likes this are also great learning tool. Sir, thank you for sharing your knowledge and if I may ask you for favour ... please, more videos like this ... it's priceless for beginners like me!

    Watching you draw this piece sends me back to my beginnings in leathercraft when I needed someone to draw everything for me. Now I only need someone to draw most things for me. I never could draw and in contrast you are a "human craftaid". Great artist and a great gift! Then I watched you carve and that was even better than you draw. Of course the final result was stunning and it was a real joy to watch a master at the helm. Godspeed to you and all your work!

    The detail on the feather in the thumbnail is what attracted me, would have loved to see how you achieved that natural look. Great video.

    Great piece Don. I really like how it had a 3D look about it. Much more depth than was probably really there. Thanks for the videos and tutorials.

    A little late to this game, but just wanted to say that only a True Illustrator could chance a pencil design directly on leather!! Superb work and your swivel knife technique is awesome!! This coming from a leatherwork newbie who's only tried 1 project so far .....

      Can you share a link to more of your brother's music? I'd appreciate if you could let him know that this song really resonated with me. The lyrics really helped me through a pretty tough day, just knowing that someone else can put into words the same thoughts or fears I worry isolate me was important for me this week.

    I don't think I have ever seen a design drawn directly onto the leather before...shows your confidence in your craft I guess. I am strictly a "draw on tracing paper first" kinda guy.

    Don, I enjoy watching your videos. My best friend just passed away. One of the cans she covered in leather they would like to use as her urn. The family has asked me to make a round leather lid. Would you have a printout of this pattern you did? Would you allow me to use it ♥️😢 thank you

    I have watched a lot of your videos a d have learned a lot. I have question about drawing directly on leather. Is there any problem with the lead from the pencil effecting the leather? I use a sponge to dampen my leather before using the swivel knife does that "smudge" the penciling? Thanks Ray

    • @DonGonzalesMaker
      @DonGonzalesMaker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bo Gopuar thank you so much! I'm working on figuring out how to shoot that so my hands are not in the way. Hopefully soon!

    • @toddgunsolley9401
      @toddgunsolley9401 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate your taking the time to try to figure out how to shoot that. One thing that is so frustrating about tooling videos is the inability to see how the tool itself is positioned and working. So many turn out like... "so you use a checkered pear shader and pound for a bit and somehow it turns out like all the stems or quills are alive now" - Well, how and why did that tool make that change? If you hit it 18 times between now and then why? I mean some people have done pretty well to try to break that down, but I still haven't really seen a good representation of how tooling depth and detail (not just borders/bevels/bargrounders) happens at real speed in the interiors and intersections of elements. I hope something along those lines is what you have in mind to shoot. I mean nothing against a beveling video, but just more of a plea for the insides and curves to be shown and explained.

    Great Video Don! Are your customers asking for other elements in tooled personal items (like feathers or cross) over a flower like in "traditional" tooling? Thanks for putting this up!

    • @DonGonzalesMaker
      @DonGonzalesMaker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Jorgenson yes sir we do a lot of no flower tooling with elements such as this rather than flowers. Many times we will incorporate both. Thanks a bunch!

    I just wish I had that artistic ability. I have to set & draw & draw & draw & draw to even get close to what I want to carve. Then I still don't like the looks of what I drew. But somehow I manage to make it look good to me & others.
