Somebody has to make a mashup of Coney's Mario/Puppy analogies in this tournament. He makes this comparison in like three different matches, and it's just as baffling and awkward every time.
Do people not remember that kurama bodied leo? I mean shadic is good and has recent results but kurama has been playing at top level for longer

Tbh, i don't think mario has a disadvantage against swordies every since i started watching Supermajors, majors and even local sets, Mario is almost rushing down every swordie like no tomorrow

No, you're right. Mario is more characteristically susceptible to landing aerials, something which many swordies excel at. Against corrin he just gets too much value per neutral win; he's regularly awarded 30-50% or a plain KO and has several more KO options than corrin. The only thing that makes this look even is shadic's ridiculous neutral skill.
That's literally the matchup. Mario is a brawler. Twice as much reward in advantage. Half of the neutral wins to work with.

I do wonder are counters just not worth it in pro play? The way Id deal with Mario spamming up-smash in that second game would be to bait it out and counter it, is that not a valid strategy? I just feel like counters are so strong but people only use it to gimp recoveries. (Non pro player with genuine question)
what i heard is that it’s just not worth the risk. the chance of it not being successful could potentially lose them their entire stock so it’s just best to play like it doesn’t exist.
What elan said. Counters are too committal and rely on guessing if your opponent’s going to throw out a move or not. You get the counter, great. But if you whiff it, you have so much endlag and can easily get hard punished by basically anything except for moves with really long startup like Falcon Punch. Most of the time, especially high/top level, players are much better at reacting and a counter is easy to bait out. The only player I really see use a counter a few times per set is Peanut, but that’s just as a mixup when he’s returning to stage in case a character edgeguards him since Mac is heavily exploitable offstage.
@@thomasr.6669 I feel like it could be a good mixup tool though, especially in last resort scenarios where you've never used it before and can predict a hit. Such as getting juggled into a predictable up smash. Ofc after you use it I'll be harder to hit again but this is just me thinking out loud I ain't a pro. I've just managed to rob some nasty stocks in elite smash with it

Yeah i dont know what happened but TK and EE kind of declined in commentary quality every since ultimate. Coney is ok but gets distracted very often, goes on tangents that arent entertaining…
I recommend watching UK casters, extremely witty but always keep their heads in the game.
