Think of them as heavy tanks. In the Empire Strikes Back, most weapons were utterly useless against them, they shrugged off shots from fixed field guns and those snow speeders no problem. And, I know what you are thinking: “Those long legs are clearly a liability” and while they are, they dramatically increase the AT-AT’s intimidation factor.
@@antcow1239Ah, but you see, British world war 2 tank doctrine had something called “infantry tanks”. Back then, there were 2 main categories of tanks: infantry tanks, and breakthrough tanks. Infantry tanks were big, heavy and powerful, as they were meant to protect and advance with the infantry. For such a tank, being fast could be a liability since it could accidentally abandon its infantry support. The AT-AT is an infantry ta- I mean, walker, it’s slow, it’s tough and it’s main guns are super strong, while the infantry it is protecting can help mitigate its weaknesses. The reason the AT-AT’s were sent to Hoth without infantry support is because admiral Ozzel is completely incompetent… nevermind that he was killed before the ground campaign began, let’s just blame all our failings on that fool.
@@thefoxyokai5030 They were sent without infantry support because they would get chopped to pieces. They'd have no cover on the open snow, so they stayed inside the walkers until they reached a favorable position. Plus, on Hoth specifically, ground troops didn't end up being needed to defend the walkers. The only things that threatened the AT-ATs were the snow speeders, and they weren't nearly as effective as most people seem to remember them being.
Starting to get my son interested in Star Wars, but I haven't shown him the movies yet (too young). So I show him videos like this. The other day, he was watching this one and got really concerned that the "big monster tank" was going to "get burnded up by the lava." 😆 I had to assure him that Imperial Engineers and KDY make their vehicles really strong, and the lava won't bother the AT-AT.
Ah, Sullust, such a loyal and aww-inspiring world. You know, I was never a fan of these mega corporations, call me old fashioned but I prefer national weapons manufacturers and science divisions. But, you know, they are loyal to the Empire, so I don’t actually hate them. Lets just hope they won’t turn their backs on us the second those terrorists inevitably try to invade this planet.
I'd like to hear what it would sound like if that hydraulic/clanking sound of the legs walking was sped up just so that each step made the same sound of lifting the leg, the whizzing sound and then the impact. I'd be curious if it would be too much and overlapping or if it would be more tank-like. Very cool video btw!
More empire more empire good job, Great job all hail tie fighters all hail empire
Top tier content as always! Love the visuals! They really bring the whole thing to life.
Hail Palpatine! Glory to the Empire!

Whew... too many heavy turrets in sight for air attack... well played!
Seeing those AT-ATs plod around makes me wonder how the imperials ever won a ground war
