- Q&A with Travis Fimmel and Creator/Writer Michael Hirst of VIKINGS. Moderated by Darren Franich, Entertainment Weekly.
Vikings returns for a gripping fourth season. Season 3 culminated with the extraordinary battle in Paris, where Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) seized victory from the jaws of defeat-but still returns to Kattegat dangerously ill. Thoughts of his death galvanize the forces who seek to succeed him as king, including his wife Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and his oldest son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig). Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) continues power struggles with her calculating, former second in command, Kalf (Ben Robson); Rollo (Clive Standen) betrays his Vikings heritage by remaining in Frankia and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) is seized for his brutal actions to the Christian priest Athelstan.
Joining the stellar cast this season is Peter Franzén as King Harold Finehair, a complex character who seeks to be King of Norway and a potential threat to Ragnar; Jasper Pääkkönen as Halfdan The Black, King Harold’s violent younger brother; and Dianne Doan as Yidu a completely different character within the world of the Vikings who fascinates Ragnar.
Travis is such a great actor and he doesnt even know it. He so humble.
Travis Fimmels facial expressions are almost like an separate character actor its self. His face should get an extra royality check.
Travis Femmel. This was his best work. It touched my life. The intensity in his eyes setteled a focus in mine. Changed me. If this is the only filming he does like this, it was so worth it.

Travis Fimmel is a breath of fresh air in the industry. One of a kind in a good way! He’s seems so down to earth, kind, funny and genuine and it’s been such a pleasure to watch his talent shine through in Vikings!
I really cried when Travis Fimmel died, even Ivar my heart was broken as if was real...Michael Hirst his a Legend that was so real to me!!!

Brilliant actor! He's always awkward during interviews, but his work as an actor is amazing.
The fact that Travis seems so shy makes Ragnar an even crazier accomplishment. What a legend. Great to hear from both of them. Very intelligent and a great panel. Agree with Michael about Travis' eyes. Ethereal. I guess his eyes really are that icy blue, arent they. What a beautiful color.
Also, Ragnar was supposed to die at the end of seaosn 1, what yet ANOTHER crazy ass fact. You can really feel the affection Michael has for Travis; it's palpable. And vice versa. I'm glad they told the story they wanted, what a ride. Ragnar is one of the greatest characters of any medium, period. That's a fight I can have with anyone.

Spot on Lizzy. One of the greatest Characters of all time. No matter what I watch, most shows and movies that try to push a certain protagonist to icon level fall short. I keep coming back and watching bits and pieces of Ragnar just because of just how amazing Travis played him. I'm a straight dude but I still have a man crush on Ragnar.

One of the finest humane actors I have ever watched in any screen. Travis was authentic. So dramatic.
Vikings was one of the greatly written TV shows anyone could've watched in a long time. It felt native.. true norse.
What I noticed in other so called Vikings stories was it couldn't but be so American.. Hollywoodish in Nature.. but not Native.
Ragnar's conversations with Athelston were so subtle & signs human truth profoundly.
Some actors are simply meant to play a certain character. For Travis the character of Ragnar is similar to Johnny Depp the character of Jack Sparrow. It nearly feels like characters are the second personalities of the actors because it just feels so effortless.
Travis; You miss the best in all Vikings when you don't want to see yourself - namely you. I look over and over again on your face, your eyes and your expressions and I do not get bored or tired.
Thank you Michael Hirst for writing such an amazing saga. It was truly the most amazing TV I have ever seen. It has also taught me so more about the viking society. It was an amazing journey.
we have an old tale in the hungarian myth world about king matthias and the clever girl (Ragnar meets Aslaug). I was really happy to see that tale appear in vikings.I am convinced about the thorough knowledge of mr Hirst of European (hi)stories. :)

Nice interview - not all the obvious questions, good natural follow-up conversations. Hard to be comfortable in that setting (on a chair on stage), enjoyed this. Nice to hear Michael and Travis together.
In case you missed it in 2014, Travis was in a movie Baytown Outlaws. It's hilarious and he does a spot on southern us accent (not easy) It's streaming on Amazon Prime.

Baytown Outlaws was what he worked on (Movie) just the year before he was cast in Vikings !! It was a fantastic movie .. Travis played a very sensitive character underneath his tougher exterior .. he is a magnificent actor with superb skill & effortless charisma .. he deserves every success that comes his way ♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Michael Hirst, thank you for writing a masterpiece! I loved all the Viking characters even the bad ones. The story broke my heart so many times, I cried for all the Viking deaths. This show honored death in a way I have never seen before, thank you Mr. Hirst.
I'm glad that Travis pushed for less dialogue, it wouldn't have harmonized with his character to say to much. Because in those moments he did speak his words meant more and came across powerful.
Love the Lords Prayer episode when Ragnar prays with athelstan before killing king horik....its the only line he has in the entire episode, but his eyes, his mood, the whole episoed was just dark and focused...loved it.
Michael is a genius period.

For anyone watching this even slightly interested in history, there's actually no solid contemporary evidence that Ragnar Lothbrok actually existed. He's more or a folk hero or myth. The historical document Michael keeps referring too is "The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrook" which was written in the 13th century around 400 years after his supposed death. So please take all of the "historical" talk with a grain of salt.
provenelk: that's what I say to folks when the speak of Jesus, that there is no evidence that he really existed. Gospels written well after his death, those who wrote them were not eyewitnesses so what do we know. What it boils down to is faith.
